Re: My new Corolla Altis 2011 - 7 speed CVT

Well I backed out of the Laura DSG purchase for the same reason (and the fact that would cost me 60% more ) A 6-speed torque convertor seemed like a happy compromise as I am sure the 7-speed CVT felt to you!

I actually DIDN'T go TD the new Altis AT because I figured I may be tempted to trade up from the Vento . Now that the Fortuner is launched in 4 speed AT (GTO says the slushbox is pretty good considering) the desires are rising unbidden again! Will certainly go do a TD.

Re: My new Corolla Altis 2011 - 7 speed CVT

Guys,
quick Update:
Horrible bumper 2 bumper traffic on 5 of the 7 days a week, plus bumper to bumper line in Delhi Malls parking has got my FE to about 9.8 - 10 kmpl. Agony!

that's good news - for a 1.8L , what better FE can you expect at low or zero speeds

A Corolla AT is a CVT, so do not lose any sleep with what happens to DSG's. The technologies are totally different.

Re: My new Corolla Altis 2011 - 7 speed CVT

Hey Jaxy,

Congratulations on your new car! Splendid ownership thread. I had a small question though. I also own a Corolla-Altis (pre-facelift). I was wondering that would it be possible to change the stock audio unit with the touch-screen one that comes with the new Altis? Are there any other changes that may have to be made while swapping the systems?

Thanks,

Jaxy, Besides the usual 'D' mode, does your car have any additional mode which could provide higher engine braking while driving down the hills (to avoid brake fade)?

It comes with CVT with tip-tronic, so it allows you to change to lower gear manually allowing engine breaking. If I am not wrong, on board computer will not go into lower gear if your RPM's are too high for that gear.

Re: My new Corolla Altis 2011 - 7 speed CVT

Hello friends,

Went for the 20K service,

off late i have been hearing "tick tick" noise from the steering wheel when i turned it either ways. reported to service center guys.
Whole set of engineers came and concluded the steering jack is the culprit.

So, they ordered a new one and replaced it. It took 2 days for this apart from other normal service stuff.

The noise gone now, steering also feels light compared to earlier.

with regards,

JaXy

Re: My new Corolla Altis 2011 - 7 speed CVT

Dear Jaxy,
I have been following this thread for sometime now.
Recently managed to secure a Sep 11, 7 speed, 20k odo for delivery in Aug.
However, took a TD during the day and could not use the headlights.
What is your experience on the HID's? How do you compare them to 100/90's.
Do you have any idea of their wattage and kelvin temperature ? Could not find this info from the net.
Also, does the car keep the rear occupants cool in the hot Delhi sun?
Thanks and Regards,
Harsh.

Re: My new Corolla Altis 2011 - 7 speed CVT

Dear Harsh,

Sorry for late reply, i was travelling.
The HID has auto leveling, i like the Low Beam throw & spread, its sufficient. However if you do want to raise the level you can contact the service center guys and they can change it from their VAG COM devices.

I'm sorry i have no idea about the wattage & kelvin but going by the color of the throw it looks somewhere between 5000 K - 6000 K.

The AC is pretty effective and rear occupants feel easy after little more time since there are no rear AC vents.
Also, i guess it some of it depends on the color light vs dark during summers.
Rear occupants in my car haven't complained about the heat.

now anyway it's started raining in Delhi pleasant weather is upon us!!!

Dear Jaxy,
Good to know that you are having a pleasant experience with the car.
I am looking forward to mine.
I am just surprised that I am unable to find out the HID specifications, even Google doesn't seem to know this one !
Happy Driving.
Regards,
Harsh.

Re: My new Corolla Altis 2011 - 7 speed CVT

Hello Jaxy,
I am also seriously considering Altis AT. I own a Corolla 2007 petrol model but wanted to change to an Auto transmission for better driving comfort and better features available in the Altis. Only worried about the FE of the AT. Will this give around ~10 KM per liter in normal city driving conditions (not heavy traffic)? I am very happy with the Toyota service in Chennai.

Re: My new Corolla Altis 2011 - 7 speed CVT

it usually gives me around 10.5 / 10.7 as per the on dash reading.
Car is really good for a daily drive, i also like it's ground clearance.

Hey jaxy,
Can you write a few words about the automatic transmission ?Is there any lag in power delivery when you floor the throttle how are the gear shifts?Whats the fuel efficiency nowadays?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,

The automatic transmission for me is a wonderful upgrade from the tick especially in the Delhi traffic. I haven't noticed any noticeable lag on flooring the throttle but i seldom floor it. I'm getting around 10 kmpl in city traffic nowadays.
