re: Maruti Swift : Test Drive & Review

@Fuel addict: On the turbo kick, I meant that the turbo does kick in but the fact that you don't feel it like it did in the old ddis . I did not stretch it beyond 2200 rpms.

@crazy driver: The boot release mechanism is actually not an issue but the size and placement of the switch is. Getz had a similar system but the lever was slightly bigger and even with it, I used to have occassional problems at security gates. At least they could spot if after conveying to them. Only hope, is that they get used to more Swifts ZDi/ZXI and learn.

BTW, booked mine today and the official wait time is 6 months. Booking amount is Rs 10k, cancellation amount is Rs 2k and the current OTR price is Rs. 761000. Also saw a few VDIs today at the showroom with JK shoes. So, depending on your luck, you may get JK or MRF or Good years Duraplus. So, the official review may need to be corrected.

re: Maruti Swift : Test Drive & Review

Hi guys,

My friend had booked a White ZDi in July 2011. His car is scheduled to arrive by next month (in Feb 2012). But he does not want to buy the car anymore. I was looking out for a zdi too. So I thought i would take the booking transfered in my name. Is it possible? What are the charges?
I had heard dealers do not allow transfers. Any specific reasons for this? If the dealer acts pricey, is there any work around to this?

No, Transfer of booking is not possible. Even the transfer of name (within the family) is not allowed As per SA.

Pretty satisfied with the vehicle.

Are you sure? Why is this so? Is it only a few dealers or a rule per se.

An example :
I am a Vehicle broker. I book 10 cars on my name by paying 5K each. After 5-6 months, ill have 10 vehicles in my hand and I will charge 25K premium easily on every vehicle I sell by transfer of name to prospective customers.

I Got an offer of delivering Brand new V/ZDi in 5 days if I pay 1L premium on the vehicle by a used car dealer. When I asked how do you guys do this, He said this can be done in Goa and they drive down the vehicle from there. Brokerage Charge etc - 1Lakh . This was when there was a strike 2-3 months back.

This rule is common in all "wanted" vehicles.

Forget cars, a friends friends' request was declined when he wanted to register Suzuki Access Scooter in his wife's name when his loan could not be processed due to some reason. He had to re-book on wife's name later.

True. If a person is booking 10 cars in his name and transfering all 10, then he is obviously making money on it. So the dealership may refuse to transfer. But why refuse for a single car booking?

I can book 10 cars on my relatives name too . Need not be on my name only.

Its good that the dealers are following the rule, else Swift would have ruled the black market making the customers priority go hay wire.

I meant on one person's name.

But what does the dealer have to say to refuse? I mean he has to give a believeable answer to refuse the transfer no?

Who said the Swift is not available in black market? Even I had offers from 3 dealers itself for a ZDi in 1 months time. But they were quoting quite a price. So had to let that go.

Not true, I had booking in my previous company name, then when I left that company I got it chagned to my name, then just before taking delviery (2 weeks before) shifted to my spouse name.

Booking was in May 2011, The first transfer was in Oct'11 and second one was Dec'11. Both the times provided relevant documents.

Good to hear. When was this BTW ?

Demand for swifts have come down i suppose. The update that I got from SA was during Manesar strike. I saw swift AD in today's TOI too ...

re: Maruti Swift : Test Drive & Review

Guys, I am put in a tough situation now! While booking, I did not care much for the waiting period since we had the WagonR. But change of events - we need the car by March 2nd week. (September 13th booking - White ZDi).

Dealer says he can deliver VDi soon, but not sure about ZDi. Will need to cancel and go for some other car if there is no final date given by March 1st.

Congrats livyodream!

In 1st and 5th pic, bonnet is having big panel gap. Was it open? Or is it because of the angle of the photograph?

Leaving a company, and transferring to spouse are genuine reasons which can be supported with documents that the booking is indeed done by/for the same person taking delivery of the car.

However, 'friendship' cannot be established with documents. I have seen cases were this was rejected.

If possible, ask your dealer to show you the waitlisted booking list on the computer. That way you will know your waiting number. The dealers should be able to show you that. This way you can take a call on the cancellation. I had done it in November and was shown the consolidated booking lists. The dealer rightly predicted that my car should arrive by end December.

Again, the number of cars allotted to a particular dealer in a particular city will vary.

Guys,

Got my Swift VXi on Jan 3 2012. Here are some pics. Those tasty alloys that you see are the Lenso Samurai series 15 inchers, running Yokohama A drives 195/60 R15. Enjoy!

re: Maruti Swift : Test Drive & Review

arindambasu, mind telling how much the alloy and tyre combination costs? Ive gone in for 14inches since i felt 15inch might eat into the FE. How is the ride quality on medium to bad roads?
