When I took the delivery, the guy who explained the car told that there is an oil change, but when I looked at the service booklet, there is nothing but some checkups during the first service. First oil change is at 10k. And the recommended oil as per the manual is 5W40, which is synthetic I wanted to go synthetic after a couple of oil changes at 1k and 10k.

My odo reads 520 now, and I am planning to a long drive of 1000 kms during the weekend. Really confused if I should drive it to touch 1000, service it and then go for the trip or come back and then give for service. If it's just some check-up that they do at first service, I don't see a point to get it done before the trip.

I hope I don't do bad to the engine by going a 1000km highway drive. I'm planning to try to vary the speed between 70-110 with numerous breaks.

The 1000km service is hardly a service. They'll only run a general checkup and clean the car.
I believe the 1000km highway drive will actually do good to the engine. You will feel it loosening up and coming to it's own by the end of your trip. Get it serviced afterwards.

Thanks for the advice. Just talked to the SA at Maruthi service center. No oil change until 10000 kms. And every oil change, including oil filter will cost me Rs.3400, since the recommended oil is 5W40.

What is the average temperature that I am supposed to see in the gauge while driving? I always see that the needle reaches half way mark within 10-15 mins of starting and just stays there. Is it normal?

No, they don't claim any scratch resistance property for the paint sealant. It's just supposed to seal the shine.

Just came back from Popular motors in Chennai. The official wait times for Swift and Dzires have come down drastically. It is 3 months for Swift ZDI and 2 months for Dzire ZDI. Last month, it was 6-8 months for ZDIs. Looks like Maruti was holding back the vehicle allocations for the budget announcements.

Maybe there were holding back for the Volkswagen engine tie up. That fell apart and now its Fiat supplying the engines again .

@ jingaboysr :: Its absolutely normal for the Engine Temp needle to reach the half way mark. Its supposed to maintain that position no matter how little or how far you drive.

Jingaboysr, During your long trip, don't keep the engine RPM at a constant level. Try to travel at day time so that there will be enough traffic and you cant stick on to a constant speed/RPM.

Exactly what I am planning. Planning to vary rpms betwen 1800 and 2200 while cruising for the onward journey. On the return journey, my car would have crossed 1000kms, so would give her a short introduction to higher rpms(until 2500) and speeds(until 120).

Yesterday while driving in the night, when I listened closely on a quiet road, I could hear a very faint whistling noise from the right side of the dashboard (somewhere near the fog lamp switch, I think). This comes on *only* when the ACC is switched on. Has anyone else noticed this?

Small correction, I noticed today that this sound is not related to ACC. It is a VERY faint sound, I need to listen carefully for it. It is not there when I start the car. Comes only after driving some time. I can hear it when the music is muted and I am waiting in a traffic signal. Something like a humming of some compressor. Is this normal?

Does it come when the A/C is completely switched off as well? Otherwise, when the A/C is running, usually there will be a humming noise. Also when your engine is HOT and when you idle, the fan starts working for 5-6 seconds giving that sound. You hear this sound with windows rolled up ?

Congrats for your new car. What was the OTR Price, please provide breakup of the cost. Also post ownership review and more pics, if you can spare some time off the steering wheel.
