Hi,

You will find a "christmas in germany" yetiblog on team-bhp from my previous travels.

Look for yetiholiday instead of yetiblog.

As for what my wife bought, I wasn't intending to play the suspense game initially, but I kind of did it, lol.

thank you for reading. Really mean it.

I am sorry for the slow delivery, Christmas stuff, you know. Packing presents and stuff.
I will be with you shortly.

But once again, thank you for the love.

Can't argue with that logic, though. That's a German car for you - understated, quality charm.

So did you nod and say ok??

If you were in the publishing business (as a writer) I am sure you would have a few best sellers. Your style of writing makes me a big, no huge fan of all the YetiBlogs (R).

Hope you settle on a good car, why not introduce her to some Indian brands

Hope you are still asking about the "red" car's color!

Reminds me of the famous line from Mr Hendy Ford, "You can have it in any color you want as long as its black"

Nice narration, the ending came a bit too early and predictable as a 'bollywood' thriller.

Congrats on the Polo, guess it is the 1.6!

Merry Christmas!

re: YetiBlog® - TheOne® buys a car. (VW Polo 1.2 )

....And the headlight switch is exactly where it is supposed to be.

I laugh. One of my pet peeves with all European cars in India has been the headlight switch, or dial which is usually near my right knee.

But it is SUPPOSED to be there like that explains my wide-eyed bride That is NORMAL

As this little story is unfolding in the car I see the suit-clad salesman waiting patiently outside the polo, smiling and politely nodding.
I open the window and he says hello and begins to describe the differences between Highline and Comfortline and stuff.

I'm listening, really I am. Not madam, no.

Why do I even try. I know she wants the Polo. I know it is a good car and to be honest, even I'm impressed.
As the sales officer explains a couple of things are very apparent to me.
  • We're going to try to buy a polo. Nay, we're going to buy it.
  • The sales team at Downtown VW are top-notch.

The 1.6 is way above the budget we have set ourselves. We decide to take a 1.2 out for a test run, just to satisfy ourselves.

I already know I want it she whispers excitedly. Unless the test drive is truly awful and it moves like a dog, I think this is it.
I nod. It isn't as expensive as I expected. In fact after seeing the quality of the build, I think it is rather well-priced.

OK then, let's buy a polo. lol.
Really?
Really.

While we wait for the test car, we walk over to the colour panel. The colour panel is listed in German, lol

Weiss, Pfeffergrau, Flashrot and so on. She is excitedly reading out all the German writing on the wall.

That's when it occurs to me. This car was built for people with european sensibilities. I should have seen it right from the start. Here I am buying a car and for my wife it feels like buying a small piece of home. It all makes sense.

After some debate we agree on one of 3 colours. White, red or pepper grey (they have 2 greys)

As is expected of me (as I can see from the posts so far) - I LOVE the red. It is just the right flashy bright red that I love.

White is quickly dropped because, well, it is a safe nice colour and everyone buys white, no?

So it is a showdown between Pepper grey (her choice) and red (mine)

Madam has an Indian license right?
Of course,
say I too quickly.

The test drive goes rather well. Very well. My wife decides that she does not need more.

Where will I use all the extra horsepower? To go even faster behind all the auto rickshaws?

Never argue with German logic. It is rarely illogical.

Right.

Can we let you know about the colour later in the day? OK? Super.

We just bought a 1.2 VW Polo.

Ja, meine Damen und Herren,

Der neue Polo ist das Auto.

Coming up: Colour choices, anecdotes, delivery and street experiences. Stay tuned.
