The 2012 Honda City CE Silver: Delivered & Hooked!

Considering the paucity of time I have right now; for the benefit of other forum members will straight away head to a short review; likes / dislikes & photos of the Honda City Corporate edition that was delivered to me on 19/1/12.

The ex-showroom Delhi cost of the car is INR 6.99 Lacs.
OTR without extended warranty was 7.87 lacs which included 3700 for side mirror, door handle & mud flap painting. (Mud flaps are not in stock yet so you wont see any in the picture.)
On top of this I have got the following done: Kenwood 2-Din, JBL components up-front, JBL co-ax at the rear, Autocop Scorpio keyless entry, HRS alloys, Michelin primacy LC 195/60/15 upsize.
Total: 8.35L.
A few more yet to do: 3M sunfilm (F/R/Side), reverse parking sensors, bigger gear knob, fog lights.

Exterior:
The car looks elegant and with the slightly tweaked bumpers has a little more imposing stance but you will be hard pressed to find differences & not many notice your car. Some notice the chrome grill & a few the rear light cluster. If you want attention on the road then this refresh isnt for you!

Suspension & Handling
The suspension has been raised by 5 mm and is at times evident from the side profile. However, the car doesnt scrape anywhere. I personally feel that the suspension has been stiffened just a wee-bit over the 08 ANHC.
The steering seems a little heavier with better feedback. Have not gone above 2500 rpm or 80 kmph so thats the initial feedback.

Interior:
I personally prefer black interiors & the corporate edition just seemed to be like a gift to me specially with the VFM proposition. Having said that, dont expect the black to blow you away. The interiors seem great but I think the Thailand model from Honda has much better quality if memory serves.
Thank God that Honda skipped the bling on the CE & there is very little chrome inside.

Good:
Extreme VFM proposition - considering that the Vento Tdi HL was costing 11 OTR; I end up saving 2.5 lacs after loading my city & offset it against fuel bills.
ABS & Airbags not skipped on CE.
Electric Side View Mirrors.
Very comfortable seats & oodles of space.
Rev happy engine (during run-in restraint is painful!)
Cynical pleasure: No ACC on any version.

Not so good:
Puny gear shifter; those in the habit of resting their palm will need to change the knob like I.
The fit in finish is just OK & could have been better. Notice the picture in which the small flip cover on the door opener has come off & I had to push it back in place.
The side walls (specially since the metal is shining and hasnt been dirtied yet) have too much of a gap & can be an eye sore if you look closely.
Under skinned tyres; now upgraded.
The driver console is now blue backlit but the central console is orange backlit; come on Honda!!
No dead pedal.

The details:
The service interval on the manual is 3 months or 5000 kms (whichever is earlier).
Dealers dont seem interested in selling the CE due to obvious reasons.

Enjoy the pictures! (The interiors look better than in the pictures right now - they were ripped apart last evening for stereo & key less fitment & need to be cleaned).

Congrats. It's one of the most desirable cars across segments on Indian roads today. What is your daily run? Did you consider any diesels at all?

Hi Nitin,

Let me be the first one to congratulate you for your Honda City.

Thanks for the much awaited thread and pics. The black interior looks very good. I must say if anyone is looking to buy a City then CE is the variant to go for.

Please do keep the thread updated regularly with service updates. Alloys and music system look very good.

Wishing you happy and safe driving!

PS - Are these Pics taken in Dwarka?

Re: The 2012 Honda City CE Silver: Delivered & Hooked!

I am loving the black interiors of this CE model. What a refreshing change.

I'm not a fan of 5 spoke alloys on 4 bolt hubs. Also your alloys seem to have too much off an offset. 195/60-15 tyres should not jut out as much as in your car. 195/60-15 is the right upgrade size but your alloy offset maybe wrong. That's why the stance of the car looks so raised and weird.

Thanks a lot for sharing the pictures at such short notice. Your car looks awesome. I love the alloys, sporty yet classy. The interiors surely look nice although I felt the seat fabric and the fabric on the door could have been of better quality/finish. But get some decent seat covers and you are good to go. Kudos to Honda for not skipping up on the safety features and the electrically adjustable ORVMs.

I have never noticed till date but is that huge line/curve/impression running all around the lower side of the body( specially prominent in the last pic) a new addition to this city? It adds a lot of character to the car.

Hey Vid, got the alloys done at BK Tyres & Jitesh assured me that they are ok. 38 vs 40 offset. The width is more 7" rather than 6.5" on OEM. Can this lead to problems?
Trust me the car looks weirder on OEM tyres; the suspension at the rear has been raised by 5 mm. The Primacy seem to fill the gap & with the new exposed metal it is quite obvious. With dirt & grime it should get better; my guess.

This curve is in previous version as well, meaning present in all i-VTEC variants of the City.

Thanks doc! Am in two minds on the seat covers; snug fit ones require a hole in the seat; non snug fit ones arent that great. Will post once am over the dilemma.
All the best on your sedan search; any shortlists yet?

Hey, congratulations on the '12 City!

A very good decision to get the mirrors and door handles painted.

How is the ride quality considering the increase in GC and tyre upgrade?

Also, any particular reason you didn't take the Extended Warranty?

Have a great ownership period!

!
Thanks Libran!
Have done about 50 kms and just about 10 on the new Tyres so wait for an update on the ride quality.
Yes, I can buy the extended warranty anytime during the next 2 yrs. However; wanted to check out Honda's stance on modifications to the car before putting any money on the table.

Thanks! The running for this car would be about a 1000 kms per month max so suits better. In the event of higher running if at all; the initial savings & lower service costs will offset higher running.
Did consider diesels but Rapid & Vento clatter got to me & Verna kept me bobbing & cramped - personal opinion.

Re: The 2012 Honda City CE Silver: Delivered & Hooked!

Nitin my bwai, I am both tremendously excited and slightly jealous of you! :P

I'm not going to ask for painting the mirrors and door handles just yet. I'm going to debate over it once I see the car in flesh and blood (or metal). Maybe when I take it back for first servicing.

It looks neat and I can't wait to get mine. I'm going to point more people to your thread, though, because I don't think I'm going to take as many pictures.

Just a quick question: Which Kenwood 2-DIN have you got installed? I can't make out the model number from the photograph. And why did you select this particular one?
Also, I notice you have Front USB and Front AUX in...did the dealer say that he cannot install a rear USB/AUX in?

EDIT:
PS: What do you mean the centre console is orange? What centre console?

Well thats a huge dilemma. I am still undecided about which way to go in my Altis. Let me know what you decide finally for the seat covers.

Regarding my other dilemma for the sedan, well its being discussed over here: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/sedans...vento-tdi.html
Do share your views too. The fight is still very much on between the three contenders shortlisted.

That's a beautiful alloy wheel. Looks quite a muscle! If I am not wrong, this reminds me of some BMW design! And that's what I liked the most in the pics!

Wish you miles of happy & safe motoring.

congrats nitin! really like the black interiors and city CE is really VFM
nice choice of alloys too and thanks for so many pics
