Rakesh Automobiles is located at Atul Kataria Chowk, Gurgaon. The directions are pretty simple.
Ask any autowallah, taxi wallah or any other wallah and most of them know the Circle. It is on the older side of Gurgaon and is the next circle after the so called "ghoda chowk" or Maharana Pratap Chowk (this circle has a statue of the great rajput on a horse, hence called the Ghoda Chowk).

Once you reach Atul Kataria Chowk, you will see three roads, and one of those roads is a double road leading towards the GGN hospital. Do not take that or the direction that it comes from. The other road is a single carriageway and once you enter that road, you will see a lot of automobile mechanics repairing cars (mechanical repairs, not accessory fitment, that is on the other road). Some 100meters down this road, you will see Rakesh Autombiles to your left.

This is his spare part outlet.

His garage is in a small lane just before the spare part outlet.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I know Atul Kataria Chowk, IIRC there are a million car repair shops on each connecting road there.

If I get your direction right, while driving down from NH8 (Signature tower exit) I should continue straight towards the railway station from Atul Kataria Chowk and it will be on my left - spare part shop by the name Rakesh. Right?

cheer

Re: The Bull II (TB II) - M&M MHawk Scorpio LX 4x4

3rd January, 2014 - 45099 Kms - the second last service at the ASC.

TB II had clocked 45000 kms on the odo and was due for its 45k Kms service.

I called up SA Ravinder on 1st and he informed me that due to New Year Day the workshop was closed but asked me to get the truck at Sterling Gurgaon on 3rd between 8:30 & 9 am. I made it by 9. Inspite of being a week-day, there was quite a rush. Ravinder immediately came over and made the job card. Nothing much was to be done as a comprehensive service was done at 40K. While according to the manual, only inspection of various aspects were to be done, as usual, I insisted on engine oil change, oil filter change and air filter change.

A TD was done before wheeling in the bay and it was discovered that the locking mechanism of the boot door was loose. That was added to the job card and the truck wheeled in at 9:15 and work began at 9:40.

Engine oil changed, oil filter changed and the air filter also changed. All hoses were checked, under-body nut-bolts tightened, propellor shafts checked and the brakes serviced.

The damages:

Air Filter....................: Rs. 496.70
Copper washer........... Rs. 007.03
Oil Filter..................... Rs. 162.64
Engine Oil.................. Rs. 1524.42
Paid service................ Rs. 1800.00
Various taxes
------------------------------
Total.......................... Rs. 4500.00
------------------------------

By 11.10 I was out and on way to my FNG for washing & greasing. It took all of an hour and paid Rs. 300/-. There was no need of any alignment etc., since I had got the same done on 26th December before proceeding to Ranthambhore.

Happy Bull, Happy Owner

p.s - just to let you all know that shortly I would be installing the MLD (mechanically locking differential) in TB II

Re: The Bull II (TB II) - M&M MHawk Scorpio LX 4x4

In my previous post I had mentioned that I would be installing the M-Locker to enhance the capability of my 4x4 TB II. This unit used to be provided as OEM in the export models of M&M's Getaway, but not for Indian units.

I don't understand this discrimination.

One of my Scorpio owning friend, Devdath, got the unit intended with a friendly ASC in B'lore and got it installed at my FNG in Gurgaon, after the ASC expressed its inability to do so.

During that course it also was found that M&M sources the M-Locker from an importer. It was only recently that the said importer has started marketing the M-Locker in the Indian markets.

Dev placed the order for me with them, I transferred the payment online and the unit was shipped to their dealer/distributor in Delhi. I picked up the unit yesterday.

The packed unit

The Locking Mechanism

Installation is being done on Sunday the 26th, Jan 2014.

I had purchased it for 23k and gd_1418 has had to pay INR 24,700.00 for it.

Let me know if you need one at Bangalore, I can arrange it.

Would Guru or Devdath explain the mechanism of the M-Locker and its utility. What kind of improvement in the capabilities of the 4X4 are expected.

Re: The Bull II (TB II) - M&M MHawk Scorpio LX 4x4

Before I begin just wanted to let you all know that on my recent trip to Gurgan -Sariska - Jaipur - Ajmer - Gurgaon (847 Kms), TB II returned a mileage of 14.27 kmpl with the AC on throughout on the Jaipur - Ajmer - Gurgaon sector.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
8th March, 2014 - 49616 Kms - the first service at the FNG.

TB II had clocked 49500 kms on the odo and was due for its 50k Kms service. Technically this would have been the last service in the ASC and also the warranty would expire. I was not too keen going to the ASC for this service.

Suffered them for two long years.

Fixed up a time at my FNG and landed up at 9:45. A TD was undertaken and TB II was pronounced to be fighting fit and in the pink of its health.

The following jobs were to be done:

Engine oil change, oil filter change, air filter change, GB oil change and front differential oil change.

As you all know that I had installed the M-locker, so at 48494 kms, the rear differential oil was replaced and a Xado atomic revitalisent was added.

I had got an oil of my choice - Xado Semi-Synthetic 10W-40 CI-4 Diesel.

My old stock of Chevron GB (SAE90 GL4) & Diff (SAE140 GL4) oil too was there and I carried that as well.

All hoses were checked, under-body nut-bolts tightened, propellor shafts checked and the brakes serviced.

The damages:
Air Filter..................... Rs. 550.00
Oil Filter..................... Rs. 180.00
Engine Oil (6 ltrs).......... Rs. 5393.00
Bosch Diesel Filter......... Rs. 780.00
Cloth........................ Rs. 10.00
Labour/washing/greasing Rs. 700.00
------------------------------
Total........................ Rs. 7613.00
------------------------------

Was out by 1 pm and went straight to DK (Star wheels) for tyre balancing, rotation & alignment & Nitrogen top-up.

Cost...................... Rs. 500.00

------------------------------
Grand Total............. Rs. 8113.00
------------------------------

Happy Bull, Happy Owner

Re: The Bull II (TB II) - M&M MHawk Scorpio LX 4x4

For long I had been wanting to get this done. The boot contained quite a lot of essential things but ate into precious space. Also whenever the truck jumped over an un-painted speed breaker, the stuff would just spill over.

Here are the pictures:

If I put a small bedding on top of this, it becomes a mini-resting area of sorts.

Interesting choice of engine oil. Never heard of the brand. What made you go for it ?
