Re: I am in LUV literally - My Maruti Ertiga ZXI

Congratulations Ajay. The ownership review is quite detailed and gives most vivid facts about the new Maruti launched.
I saw one displayed at a Delhi showroom very recently. The car however to me looks like a face lifted Wagon R with an extended wheelbase. Its not a very rough and tough vehicle to be labelled as a SUV as the media reports said earlier, ever since the car made its debut at the Auto Expo. LUV is more apt for this car.
The plus points are that its a spacious Maruti (the Eeco is the next spacious Maruti) so the seal of guarantee and quality say it all. Its VFM and the company asks for the right price. Moreover, its quite nimble to handle in the city traffic and even park, as compared to a regular Indian SUV.
Happy Motoring and do keep us posted with more details.

Re: I am in LUV literally - My Maruti Ertiga ZXI

Many thanks for sharing pics and your experience.
One question, what's max speed you have driven and how it is handling on highway?

I am really interested to know on 100+ speeds, like ride/engine noise/handling etc.

Thanks.

Re: I am in LUV literally - My Maruti Ertiga ZXI

Congratulations Ajay on your latest possession.

Need to have a test drive of this vehicle. I am currently planning for a change of vehicle (BTW, this was on cards for quite sometime now, but not finding the right time ). A Maruti was never in my mind and from your initial review and the excellent pictures, definitely this is now a contender (the diesel one). As one of the member mentioned, a nice review will help and influence other member's decision making process. I am waiting for your report after run-in period, so that a calculated decision can be made (currently my priority list is Linea & Sunny, yet to TD a Sunny though).

Thanks once again.

Long wheelbase in fact is a disadvantage on speed breakers as it allows belly to say hello up close :-). However due to higher G.C., effectively it behaves like a typical tall boy hatch (like Ritz). It is not an SUV. So one has to drive as one would drive a sedan/ hatch.

They even spend around Rs 500 crores on its design! How lucky I am .

does the quarter glass in the A-pillar hamper cornering visibility?
On the contrary it enhances cornering visibility.

On the doors (bottom - near the hinges).

No adjustments. I felt lumber support & thigh support adequate. The seat fits me snugly (moderately built 5'6"). See pic below:

3. How much is the gap between the 3rd row head rest and the rear door glass- approx.
When head rest is down, it is around 7 inch from the back of head rest & glass.

I haven't gone past 90. But rest assured. It is not going to give me nightmares.

Right. However 'Auto' Power Window switch (driver side) is back lit.

I have pulled one maximum forward and pushed other one backwards after folding rear seat (leaving head rests in place). and See below:

(Sorry for not removing polythene. I will, by the end of this week when the seat covers arrive.)

Re: I am in LUV literally - My Maruti Ertiga ZXI

Many congratulations Ajay!! Loved your detailed observations. Wish you many more happy miles in your LUVely car.

Good to see your emphasis on safety, not something we see a lot in India.

Re: I am in LUV literally - My Maruti Ertiga ZXI

Many Congratulations Ajay for owning a car which is first of it's kind in the country. This is a mix of hatch, sedan,SUV & MUV in right proportion, just what many people want. It is perfect for families who want just one car. I am sure Maruti will find many buyers for this car & most sedan/B+ Hatch buyers will like to have a look of this wonderfully practical car before signing the cheque. Atleast, I surely would have before taking delivery of my Fluidic Verna.

Nice to see that you are taking lot of pains to answer & upload pictures acting on the request of fellow bhpians, I am sure you will not disappoint me. Wonderful gesture mate, please keep it up.

1. How much km. have you done so far.
2. How is the build quality, any rattling issues?
3. How is the ride quality for last row passengers on undulated roads.
4. How easy or difficult is it for self driving in comparison to cars like say SX4.
5. Lightness of clutch, gear shift quality & throw?
6. AC effectiveness at 2-3 p.m. in present days. If no issues then we should be rest assured as we are almost in peak summer.
7. How is the refinement of the engine, insulation levels, noise level in side the cabin particularly wind noise at cruising speed.
8. Can it satisfy driving enthusiasts?

Seemingly a long list, sorry...

Enjoy the car, drive safe

Thanks

2. How is the build quality, any rattling issues?
No cause of concern noted as far as build quality is concerned. No rattles yet. Not expected either in 100Km :-).
3. How is the ride quality for last row passengers on undulated roads.
It is not going to be as good as it is in middle row but it is better than any other MUV owing to longer wheel base w.r.t. positioning of the last row.
4. How easy or difficult is it for self driving in comparison to cars like say SX4.
Similar. However SX4 will always have an edge if you want to hit corners at fast speeds.
5. Lightness of clutch, gear shift quality & throw?
Just like Swift. Delightful short throws and sure-slotting gears.
6. AC effectiveness at 2-3 p.m. in present days. If no issues then we should be rest assured as we are almost in peak summer.
Well. In stop go traffic, it may not be as effective as that of a Sedan like SX4 (Laws of physics can't be circumvented). Nevertheless for highway rides, I would consider it adequate.
7. How is the refinement of the engine, insulation levels, noise level in side the cabin particularly wind noise at cruising speed.
Not worth sweating it out over these. So don't worry.
8. Can it satisfy driving enthusiasts?
Not as much as a Swift or SX4 would. However I would expect it to be comparable to a Ritz on this aspect.
Please see the replies in bold (above).

Re: I am in LUV literally - My Maruti Ertiga ZXI

Congratulations Ajay, splendid review, and you're blessed to get such a quick delivery. Maruti deserves credit for positioning the Ertiga between a hatchback and a SUV, it was a much needed vehicle size.

Do post a detailed user review once you've had a chance to drive her around a bit.

Wish you many miles of driving pleasure.

Re: I am in LUV literally - My Maruti Ertiga ZXI

Congrats Ajay on the car and also on a brilliant review. Time was ripe for such a product in our market. Let's see who follows and how. Toyota Corolla Verso is very similar to this while Renault Grand Scenic, Opel Zafira and Ford S-Max are slightly larger. These cars appeal to young families overseas but add parents to the mix in India it hits a sweet spot.
