And good work with the LED lamps. Looks quite good. Waiting for your DIY pictures.
Hey joslicx,

re: Bringing home my blue wind : VW Vento TDI EDIT: Now sold!

Had been getting irritated with minute rattling coming from the central dash. It was very faint but i am very finicky about the sound. So instead of going to the VW service center and getting ripped, I decided to do a DIY on some sound insulation to make the squeaking go away.

So downloaded some service manuals from Erwin and then started my projects.

Ingredients:

1. all in one screwdriver with lots of keys
2. Foam mat. i used my wife's yoga mat

Ok, here is the sequence

1. First the dampener yoga mat
Bringing home my blue wind : VW Vento TDI EDIT: Now sold!-photo.jpg

2. Pull the facia of RCD 310 using the top right corner as shown with the red arrows. Once the RCD 310 facia plate is removed, remove the Auto ac facia pulling the bottom left arrow point as shown

3. Remove the screws as denoted by red arrows (ignore the red foam - as this is post insulation pics these wont be present originally.
Bringing home my blue wind : VW Vento TDI EDIT: Now sold!-2.jpeg

4. Once you remove the RCD by unbuckling the clip that holds the harness and also remove the aerial cable (you will notice that it is a Diversity Aerial - 2 bands) - remove aerial cable by first unlocking the aerial cable clip.
Unscrew the points as again shown. Pull the blue arrow ends to loosen the middle ac vent housing
Bringing home my blue wind : VW Vento TDI EDIT: Now sold!-3.jpeg

5. you just need to pull the middle ac vent housing as it is clip locked not screwed in place

Bringing home my blue wind : VW Vento TDI EDIT: Now sold!-4.jpeg

6. Unscrew 2 screws right at the bottom of the AC unit (you will need to bend down to see 2 holes beneath the AC unit)

you would be able to loosen the AC unit too. This is how it looks (made by continental- sweet)

7. Once everything is loosen, insert the foams at places shown by arrows. Make sure you dont block any locking mechanism or screw housing.
Bringing home my blue wind : VW Vento TDI EDIT: Now sold!-6.jpeg

8. I even foamed the space between RCD cage and middle AC vents as shown

Bringing home my blue wind : VW Vento TDI EDIT: Now sold!-7.jpeg

9. Reassemble in reverse order.

Some other pics showing various parts

Next project will be to do the insulation on side AC vents.

Also, to avoid breakage always remember to lubricate using WD70

As i am an Apple buff, i was disappointed when I found out that there was no Iphone/Ipod integration. But i was determined, and the test drive on Jetta had help me spot the same HU (RCD 310) and the MDI interface. On researching, i got to know that RCD 310 supports iphone/ipod and hence what i need was an MDI cable. So i ordered

I am dying to get this thing but the link you've posted no longer exists. Is there any place in Bangalore or online that I can buy this cable?

That is brilliant, I always wanted to do that but was, well sceptical but now that you have done it and everything works its awesome. So share the pricing for it and where did you source it and more importantly who installed it, the VW dealer or aftermarket chaps.
