Aditya, I am also holding my breath for your review.

I am planning to book CRDI Sports in October, in Kolkata, for myself. The traffic in Kolkata is pretty slow in most places. Also the conditions of the highways in WestBengal is pretty sorry. Thus, the car would rarely get a chance to see 3 digit speeds.

My father, who would also be using the car quite often, though not driving himself, has a lower back problem (spondylitis).

Based on these conditions, do you feel that the I20 would be suitable for me? I am asking this mainly from the perspective of suspension and comfort. Please suggest.

I can't talk from an owner's point of view, but here's my two cents from close to half an hour of a test drive.

Suspension is a bit on the harder side, nothing like the Polo or the Vento, but it's not as bad hard as the i10. It adsorbs a lot of bumps, but it does let your spine know if you are a bit fast into the potholes.

The seats are gorgeous. They support your entire back. Lateral support is amazing. One of the better seats in any segment.

Turbo lag is there, which can be worked out a bit by fitting a better air filter. In bumper to bumper to traffic, you have to downshift to 1st, but there's enough torque to pull you through any traffic.

Edit: 50th post :P

Have booked a bronze asta 1.4 crdi yesterday, delivery expected in two weeks.

Am proud to say that I have booked my first car purely based on the excellent T-BHP review by @GTO and did not take a TD. Incidentally, the TD car at the dealership had met with an accident and currently under repairs. The SE told me to come over the weekend for a TD. I do not think i would be going for a TD though, thanks to @GTO and T-BHP. Also, IMO the TD vehicles are so ill maintained that one TD would invariably raise more doubts in the already confused mind.

Always liked the previous gen i20's looks; i-gen looks are much better and contemporary IMHO. Was susceptible however, of the Korean make. However, reading the review by @GTO (thrice) and spending two hours fiddling around with the display model; confirmed the booking . The never ending feature list and the rave reviews of the 1.4 crdi only helped the decision.

Have few questions though, need help:

- @GTO recommended an upgrade to 195/55/15 tires. I think reference here is made to yokos cause Michelin webaite does not provide this specification, only 195/60/15. Also, yokos or michelins?

- has any igen i20 owner faced the steering rattle issue yet?

- should i opt for the extended third year warrantty, the dealership is charging eight odd thousand for the sam?

- read about the hyundai after sales cheating issues in this forum. I thought hyundai is a reliable brand in this aspect after maruti and toyota ofcourse?

Congrats on your purchase! Aditya told me that there are no steering issues at all. Seems to have been rectified.

re: 1st-gen Hyundai i20 (2008 - 2014) : Review

Test drove the petrol and diesel i20s back to back yesterday. The petrol one has absolutely ridiculous high speed steering control. At 90 and above i felt that the car is going to slide off any moment. It was handling like a drunk sailor.

The diesel one on the other hand, felt more composed. Not perfect, but good enough for a person who drives at 120 or so, and not more.

Both were Astas, and both had alloys with Apollo 175/R14s.

I've booked a Twilight Blue i20 Sportz CRDI. Waiting time is 2 weeks supposedly. No downpayment, since I am opting for a company lease.

Not sure about the petrol, but the light steering takes some time to get used to especially on an open stretch high way.

I thought ASTA and Sportz variants get 185/R14 tyres as standard. Mine also has the same. Was that a typo?

Both Yokahama and Michelin are equally good. I had Yokahama tubeless tyre for my Santro and the road grip especially on wet roads were good.

I would recommend not to go for the third year extended warranty. I didnt opt for it, because if your car is hastle free for first two years, hardly a trouble is caused in the third. Thats my opinion though and I could be wrong here. I did not want to pay extra 8K for the third year warranty.

After sales service for Hyundai is decent and not great as you would expect from Maruti. One reason I found is that the service cost is higher than the competitors. For i20 most of the parts are imported and can prove costly when replaced during repairs. Other than that I have had no issues with the after sales service. My first service experience couple of weeks back was good.

^^That's awesome to hear no complaints. Can you please put up an ownership review?
Have you completed the 1st service? That was the cost?

In my current i10, the green dial button will only call the last dialled number. Is it the same with the i20 also? Is it possible to select a number from the phonebook to call?
