Finally another track day at BIC on 20th April, organized by our club. 20 Cars, 2x30 min session Took the VRS out and posted an insane time of 2min 40sec (3rd Fastest of the day)in 35 degree heat. Very impressed with the improvements from Stage 2. I was only 4.5sec slower than the fastest car (Audi R8 4.2V8) which is damn good for a 1.8TSI enigine running stock turbo.
Couple of Shots from the Day-
Videos are posted on the Motorsports section of tbhp.
Noticed a few issues related to performance on the track and got cracking on solutions:
1. Boost Response is terrible and to power out of corners I need to be a gear lower and in the high rpm range. The culprit was the stock BPV and found it leaking boost up top in the RPM Range.
Solution- Upgrade to GFB DV+. Keeps the response of the electromagnetic bypass valve, with better boost holding ability.
Very very impressive modification and honestly one of the best things I've done to the car. The car now holds full boost till redline, and the throttle response improvement is amazing.
2. The turbo seemed to be struggling a bit on the track. Could feel it in the car, so decided to check the pipes from turbo to intercooler and throttlebody and what i saw amazed me. What a terrible piece of engineering.
Solution- Upgraded to Spulen Boost Pipes.
Comparison - Stock vs Spulen Turbo Outlet Pipe
Comparison - Stock vs Spulen Intercooler to Throttlebody Pipe
Results is again amazing! The car has gotten even smoother. The power comes on instantly. Very little turbo lag. The turbo also seems to be working less harder to reach peak boost. Power levels also feel increased, and the boost is coming on earlier and smoother.
We have another track day on the 4th of May, so will put these mods to the test.
Another couple of things I noticed where improvements are needed.
1. Brakes. Definitely improved with the front pad changed to tarox and a fresh set of OEMs in the rear. But still the brake discs and calipers leave a lot to be desired of. Fade is evident and I was going easy on them on the track loosing time due to carefully braking so as to not overheat the calipers/pads or warp the rotors. Call me spoilt, but I've gotten used to the Brembos on the Evo's and STIs and the OEM brakes on the VRS just wont do if i have to break into the 2.30s at BIC. I suppose with better brakes i can brake a lot later and a lot harder than I was this time, so roughly 0.5 secs gain is assured on each corner, and BIC has 16 of them, so roughly another 8 secs to be gained. So either Tarox or Brembo upgrades next on the list.
2. Intercooler. While doing the pipes, I was shocked to see how small the intercooler is. The core is big but the depth of the intercooler is puny and is definitely another choke point that will need to be addressed. The easiest solution is to replace it with the Audi S3 intercooler which is far superior and barely 350 Euro. Definately worth the investment if I'm going to track the car and keep IAT's stable after 10-15 laps.

^ Interesting set of observations & mods, im sure these things will make a world of a difference on the limit.
Keep us updated :thumbs up
Need new brakes. Tarox 6pot incoming thanks to some great advice from Robi and swift action by Peter. But in all honesty, am very impressed with oem rotos. Lasted 11k of brutal punishment, and still have life left. Am back to stock pads for now till the bbk is here.
Some pics from a night out...
Tarox 6pot brakes and corsa race pads are finally on. Review upcoming shortly.
Here is a pic of both my toys.
Hi Pruthwi,
Nice review of the your VRS. Really liked every thread of the same. Looks like, the vRS bug has bitten me very badly. Just wanted to check do you know or any of your friends/families in the network who has a stock vRS intending to sell them. I am really in the look out for the same.
The preferable choices are Blue, then black or white.
I also, got to know ,from many sources, that the Octy vrs may not come to india like the laura vRS as well. I am in need for a manual vRS one.
Thanks a lot for sharing your feedback. Let me know if you get any leads on the same.
Hi, Saw your updates on youtube - K04 turbo! A6 3.0T destroying performance!
Care to spill the beans on your latest set of upgrades? :)
