I find M800/Alto to be best for self drive in city especially for office commute. Good fuel efficiency, reliable with tiny dimension easy to zip around and most important inexpensive spares. Also low overhangs mean no bottom scraping on speed humps or badly designed parking lots.

The major drawback is its AC. Ac is a chiller no doubts, but as you said it sucks too much power from tiny engine.

If one is looking for a reliable workhorse on a tight budget. This is the one .

Owning the previous gen alto I am quite surprised at the utter lack of performance that you have mentioned here. My old alto lxi which is about 8 years old now and has 70k km on the clock still runs quite fine. I can keep highway speeds of about 120kmph or so easily. Lack of torque with ac is only felt when climbing steep inclines or trying to overtake above 100kmph. It's not the fastest car off the blocks , however she can maintain steady high speeds without feeling that she will be blown over.
Also quality of plastics and metal are way better than the new gen alto.
