re: M800 to a Diesel Hatch - My Breeze Blue Maruti Ritz VDi. EDIT: Now sold!

Current ODO reading is at 9,800 KMS and I decided to give it for the third free service. Booked an appointment for today morning at Aryan Motors in Banaswadi.

Gave the car this morning around 10:00 AM and the delivery was promised around 3:30 PM. The SA, Mr. Abu explained that the following jobs will done;

General Service and Check Up
Air Filter cleaning - When I asked him to replace the air filters, he mentioned that air filter replacement needs to be done every 20K KMS. Not sure how far this is true but I agreed just for cleaning of air filters.
Engine Oil & Oil filter replacement - I insisted that only 15W40 oil which is regular mineral be used and not the synthetic 5W40 oil. When I was at the service center, I happened to glance through a chart which had details about the oil to be used for each of the Maruti cars and it had 15W40 oil for Ritz Diesel.

I asked them not to do Wheel Alignment & Balancing as I normally get it done at Madhus on Langford road. When I checked with the SA about the alignment and balancing cost at MASS, he informed that it is Rs. 750/- + Taxes . A regular alignment and balancing job costs around Rs. 400/- outside. This is a rip off for anyone who gets the alignment and balancing job at MASS.

At Madhus, the Hunter force Wheel Alignment and Balancing costs around Rs. 800/- (All Inclusive) which is a much advanced technology when compared to what is been offered at MASS.

As promised, the car was delivered at 3:30PM and the total bill was Rs. 1489/-.

Here is the break up of the bill;

15W40 Shell Engine Oil - 741.83 for 3.1 Litres (Rs. 239.30 per litre)
Against an item called "Element", I was billed for Rs. 379/-. When I asked what this was, I was informed that it is engine oil gasket as both engine oil and oil filters were changed.
Screen Wash - 2 Sachets for Rs. 26.20. Not sure why they need 2 sachets. I was under the impression that only sachet is required
Consummable Check/Replacement - Rs. 150/-

I feel happy that I took a wise decision in using only the 15W40 engine oil which costs only 30% when compared to 5W40 synthetic oil. I will keep an eye open to see if there is any change in the performance of the car and if there is any drop in FE by using the regular mineral oil.

Good you didn't opt for wheel alignment and stuff at MASS. It is a rip off without any doubt and I don't feel any difference when they do it but the sane if fine outside from a tyre specialist the diving feel is noticed.

I guess the Element here should be oil filter. Any gasket I don't think costs Rs 380.

Why don't you ask them to show the old part that was replaced in your car. That will give you an idea what it means.

This is a regular practice which I have with all of the MASS. Not that I complain but just safe side to have a spare one. I have 2 sachets all the time in my glove box.

Must be the oil filter cost here as there was no mention of oil filter cost in the bill. I might have understood wrong here. However, I will make it a practice to ask for replaced parts from MASS next time onwards.

On been billed for two windscreen sachets, I understood that it was two sachets which were used to tank up the screen wash water container and not one used and one given to customer because I was not given any additional or spare screen wash sachet.

Do you have the bill of the service with you?

Scan it or if possible upload a picture if it by masking the personal details.

I have attached the 3rd free service bill here for reference. The picture quality is not that great but manageable.

I just checked my 100K service bill where the Oil filter was changed.

This is the part number of the oil filter: 16510M86J20. Tried zooming on the picture attached but couldn't understand.

The Oil filter that i have bought to change in my Swift ZDi after 5K service.

re: M800 to a Diesel Hatch - My Breeze Blue Maruti Ritz VDi. EDIT: Now sold!

Time for some update......

The car completed 12,000 KMS recently and is performing just fine. One thing I noticed is that the engine is more noisier now after the 10K service. Is it because I used Shell 15W40 oil at 10K service. The smoothness I used to get earlier is missing.

My office recently shifted and I get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic every day and it requires driving in 1st or 2nd gear when stuck in few junctions. Not sure if this will result in clutch issues sooner than expected.

There is no change in FE though. Recently, I did about 200 KMS of city driving and 500 KMS of highway driving with 100% AC and the car returned 20.75 KMPL on a tankful to tankful method.

I don't think the oil being new would cause high NVH within 2K kms. I suppose your car is at 12K and the oil was changed at 10K. Surprised to see the engine become noisy fast. Are you using Mineral I'll on your choice or MASS recommends?

Regarding B2B traffic holding the clutch pedal pressed continuously is harmful. When required slot it in 1st gear, inch forward and shift back to neutral. This will will the things in check better.

The oil was changed at 10K service at MASS. MASS recommended Synthetic oil but I insisted on Mineral oil to be used. As I drive in B2B traffic on a daily basis, plan to get the car serviced and oil changed every 5K kms. At 15K service, I plan to use Mobil Delvac MX 15W 40 oil and see how the car performs.

A big thank you to you for suggesting the trick to drive in B2B traffic. Another query is whether frequent gear shifts affects the life of the clutch as I normally change gears between 1500 rpm to 2000 rpm.

re: M800 to a Diesel Hatch - My Breeze Blue Maruti Ritz VDi. EDIT: Now sold!

My two cents here.
Average clutch life of Ritz is 25,000 Kms.Even in B2B traffic there is no need to fear much. Mine I changed in 28 K.The clutter from the engine ,is normal .The older it gets ,diesel engines will get little more louder. Check the performance of engine and turbo .If they are alright ,be worry free. One of my friends have a Swift VDI which sounds very much like a tata 407 from outside. We did all the checks and everything was perfectly fine .The advice we got from the MASS was "diesel hein na sir". Thankfully sound insulation is good and there is very little noise inside the car.

Mobil rocks!

Keep the car above 1500 RPM so that frequent great shifts are not required. The engine is great for B2B traffic. Yes, clutch life would get affected as you'll keep pressing it frequently.

re: M800 to a Diesel Hatch - My Breeze Blue Maruti Ritz VDi. EDIT: Now sold!

Update...

Got the EW from the dealer today for Rs. 10,365/- (Rs. 9225 + Service Tax) for 3rd & 4th Year or Upto 80K KMS whichever is earlier for my RITZ VDI.

I had posted the details in the below thread as well.

re: M800 to a Diesel Hatch - My Breeze Blue Maruti Ritz VDi. EDIT: Now sold!

I had started hearing a slight "thud" sound whenever I depress the clutch in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. My current ODO reading is at 13,680 KMS. To add to my worries, I could hear a similar sound whenever I press the accelerator in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. The sound was not there in higher gears when the car is traveling at speeds above 60KM/HR. The sound was more audible when the AC was on. Even the brakes emitted a screeching sound when I hard pressed them like similar to old TATA Trucks when they apply brakes.

Took the car to MASS yesterday morning (Aryan Motors in Banaswadi) with a prior appointment. My regular SA Mr. Abu took the car and said that they would check the problem & revert. By afternoon, I received a call saying that few nuts and bolts were loose and nothing major was there as I had expected and the brakes were opened and serviced with some grease applied. I was expecting a Gear Box issue or Clutch issue. Went to the service station in evening, took a test drive for about 3 KMS and everything was fine & the strange noise had disappeared. MASS informed me to come back again if at all the problem re-occurs. I had also bought a pair of Super Tone Hella Red Grill horns (Made in India) from JK Automobiles at JC Road for Rs. 1350/-. I got them installed at MASS by replacing the original stock horns. Total damages for everything as above at MASS - Rs. 427/-.

Needless to say that I was happy with the bill and the way MASS handled the entire concern and a special piece of appreciation for the SA Mr. Abu at Aryan Motors.

Current ODO is at 15,650 KMS. Gave the car for 15K service at Aryan motors. Changed the oil as I had used 15W40 Shell oil at 10K KMS Service. It was a paid service & the bill came upto around 3.5K for Service, Oil Change, Brakes check and regular check up. I also replaced the Super Tone Hella Red Grill horns once again with "Toyota Stock Horns" which come with a combination of High Pitch & Low Pitch horn. Toyota horns cost me Rs. 750 (Approx). They were just in right size as Maruti stock horns and were fitted with no extra wiring at MASS.

The problem I had shared in one of my earlier posts as mentioned above, the strange "thud" sound has re-appeared once again while releasing/depressing the clutch particularly when the AC is on. When I gave the car for service at Aryan, I reported this particular problem to the SA as well as the chief mechanic who took a test drive with me to detect the problem. Now, after the service, the problem still exists and when I questioned the SA, they informed me that it is some "Gear Box Vibration/Friction" which is common in all latest generation diesel swifts & ritz. In fact, when I went to take delivery of my car on 27th July (Sun), I was taken on a short test drive in a swift VDI with 21K KMS on ODO which had a similar "thud" sound when driving. I was informed by the SA & the mechanic at MASS that it is a common problem and there is nothing to worry.

I am not convinced by their answer because initially when I went to give the car for service, I was informed by the mechanic that the noise is coming from the bed but later when I went to take the delivery of the car after the service, they convinced me that it is a common problem in all latest gen diesel cars of maruti particularly Swift & Ritz. Can this be a manufacturing defect which Maruti is aware of but does not want to acknowledge it or is the MASS taking me for a ride. I am looking for advise here from fellow Bhpians.

If this "thud" is a common issue found on the Swift and Ritz then why hasn't Maruti recalled the cars and solved it? How silly can the ASC get with such answers. Why not accept the fact that they are not competent enough to diagnose and solve the issue. Why give lame answers just to wipe-off the issue.

This is not a common issue and IIRC, I too had faced the same with my Ritz in the last stages of the car. I did get this "thud" though mild when shifting from neutral to first only after the clutch is engaged and the gear lever is moved to left to slot it into 1st. The sound comes only during the above said operation and not any other time.

Has to do something with the clutch, may be the release bearings or the whole setup itself. I never did anything as the clutch in my Ritz was stock (factory fit) one till it was sold @ 1.08 L kms.

Yet to see this "thud" in my Swift ZDi.
