I view Yeti owners as deeper, more intelligent individuals because they picked a car that is compact yet spacious, fuel efficient yet powerful, inexpensive yet loaded and unorthodox in appearance yet good looking.

Equally intelligent folks may not be buying it because they don't have the financial resources to do so...

This is very true. It was true of me too till I threw everything to the winds and went for it with a "hell for leather" attitude.
Many people appreciate the intelligence and quality of the vehicle but given their economic considerations, are forced to wait things out before they can push themselves to be able to afford it.
It is still an expensive car here in India.

Similar story in my case too,my initial budget was south of 15L but in the end went for it and with what little I have experienced,its worth the risk. Its so much better than sedans,proved right many times over with the current state of kerala roads and congestion.

Congratulations on your Yeti. That is one car that deserves a lot more attention (for the right reasons).

I would like to correct myself about the 6th gear. Its not at all bad, today chauffeured mom around and I tried some sedate driving and so most of my driving was in this gear and it felt really relaxed,no immediate power available unless you floor it but some incredible instant economy values. And by the way thanks to the traffic didn't feel all that slow because I were coasting around 100kmph. This magician (yeti) has so many tricks up its sleeve. Can't help but fall in love.

Exactly, I love the Yeti but havent found the dough to afford it yet. 16 lakhs is just too much.

I kept wishing to spend only Rs 9 to 12 lacs and was looking for a second hand Tucson, X Trail and so on. The Doc at the time had said that I needed to change my Scorpio as I was apparently tending towards spondylitis and the Scorpio's bumpy ride was not doing me any favours. Also it was too big for our requirements and too uncomfortable to pilot around the narrow roads in Bangalore on a daily drive basis. The Duster was strong on my consideration list but was too far away from launch. Also I was told on top authority that there would be no 4x4 and no Euro top spec. The XUV did not appeal to me though I was one of the privileged lot who were given a solid sneak preview of it well before launch! It was just too large and had too many fiddly electronics in it which were yet un-proven.
Then I thought hard and said it would be better to own a brand new, state-of-the-art, fully functional, compact SUV type vehicle so that left only the Yeti, though it was very expensive given my then planned budget. However, on deep consideration, nothing else came close, so I put down a large down payment with what I had saved, took the rest on loan and just bought it!

Congrats milu2fast! I hope your yeti takes you thousands of miles to places you always thought of visiting. Keep ripping :)

Thanks for ownership report milu2fast. Yeti is my dream car - compact yet spacious, understated yet luxurious, nimble yet powerful is how I would have described it, if I were lucky enough to write an ownership report of this car. Had to settle for a wannabe that's available for half-the-price (read: Ecosport), but I confess I still can't get the yeti off my head.

Enjoyed reading the review. Its my dream car as well, and was voted among the best cars by JC in Top Gear. Am wondering whether Skoda should have concentrated more on this vehicle, and brought other variants, esp 1.2 TSI petrol, 1.6 petrol variants and maybe 1.6 diesel Rapid unit engines. It would have brought the price down to within reach of many more people like me. I , like you, dont do much offroading, but appreciate the other qualities you have beautifully brought out. Under 15 L on road in India would have been possible I think.

A good review there. And a model that sure is drool-worthy (for me). I just hope Skoda India does NOT do us one more "favour" by confusing the tentative buyers with the launch of a Snowman when people have gradually started falling in love with the Yeti.

The Yeti (with a moonroof, hopefully) is the next on my list. I just can't wait to see the "new" Yeti in flesh. Gosh! I wonder why Skoda never penetrated the North American market.. Miss seeing them here..

If it didn't have those weird four-eyed look on the front and the Skoda badge, it would have fared a lot better than it is in its current state. It's undoubtedly a capable vehicle, but it is marred by a brand that has tarnished its image over the years.

Took the yeti to munnar koviloor kanthaloor during the last rainy weekend and it performed perfectly well. I did a bit of offroading even though I wanted to test her hard but couldn't do hard offroading (jeeps sweat here) because the roads were closed by landslide/tree fall.
Took her down a off beaten road,not something you would call off road but a road were I would have had issues if it had been a sedan/hatch especially with scrapping its belly. It was 10 kms downhill on no roads,yeti felt more than comfortable and I were in neutral and descend assist and it felt close to cruise control. Found out that ground clearance is an issue and have to be careful,I did scrap it once but it was on mud. From my experience with the slippery tyres I took it very slow and we both felt more confident ( yeti and myself).
Trip had everything bad roads,no roads potholes that seemed more like manholes,water wading (call it the stream in front of munnar ksrtc bus stand) ,ghat roads,mud,grass and as it was off season the jeep drivers and busses were like Alonso on a qualifying lap and very keen to kiss the yeti and most times you are thrown out of the road if you don't want to be kissed . Mist was a constant co passenger and thankfully lights are ok if you are ready to go slow(aided by bad roads in my case) but have asked skoda for fog lamps (yellow) and should get a reply soon.
Yeti reinstated its tank status, kept us isolated from rain,wind,sounds ( most
cars do) and most importantly no rattles even though if you saw me drive you would have felt I were trying hard to get them. Its just my stupidity and confidence with the yeti that has made me take it through terrain mostly not on roads and bad bad holes and even rocks ,it mostly happens that you are midway on your overtaking and you see a big hole but I just punch through but the silver lining to all this is that I know this can take it and still feel unaffected.
On ghat roads yeti feels like a race horse on track,precise fast and poised but the only issue is sometimes you crash into a pothole hidden by the corner and you realise it all too late and yeti responds with a loud thud. And whenever we opened our windows I got addicted to the turbo whistle.
And now to the only issue I have with the yeti this far,its dirt magnet behaviour. To keep this clean is like wishing our government gave us good roads. We found out that the running board is a killer and every time you step in or out ,your jeans/mundu ( Malayalam for dhothi) gets dirt imprinted which we deposit on the leather seats like a good vector. And not to mention when I took yeti to clean up I found dirt even on top,need a solution for this,at least the running board.
Yeti delivered 14kmpl for the trip as per MID (speeds between 5kmph to occasional bursts to 140kmph,heights up to 1800msl) and all this even though its odometer is at just 2600kms.
Final word: I love this hoodini !!
