Did you check the battery connectors? Do check, disconnect battery, clean the terminals, check battery voltage, reconnect battery. It should be minimum 12.1v after crank. Once you disconnect and reconnect battery, turn the steering wheel lock to lock twice, the errors will disappear. Drive the car and in 50m the TPMS error will disappear. If this doesn’t work, could be ABS error. But the second video where in your parking sensors aren’t responding, to me seems like a clear battery failure.

So did you get it fixed? What was the issue?

Hey, I got the battery checked. It’s alright. I had a 400km drive yesterday so didn’t get time. I’ll be looking into the issue today. My friend drove the car for 25km yesterday. Issue did not resurface. I’ll get a proper resolution today.

Re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

UPDATE: Drove to the workshop (highly trusted German car specialists) and the car refused to show any fault. They ran diagnostics and couldn’t find anything wrong. On my way back, the car lit up again. This time the speedometer (only the needle) stopped working intermittently. Turned around and went back. Kept the car ON while they ran the check again. There is some issue in the brake electronics. Went for a test drive after the chap cleared the codes. Problem was not replicated. The owner of the workshop suggested to leave the car there for a few hours so the mechanics can check all connections and sensors physically. The head tech hinted at a problem with the ABS module saying some data was ‘missing’. I really don’t know what the next step is. I’ll keep this thread updated.

Any views/opinions are most welcome.

Got a screenshot of the codes. Can anyone make any sense of it?

Re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

The issue has been resolved for now. The workshop cleaned and reinstalled the ABS control module and multiple other electronic components. What stood out to me during this ordeal is the workshop’s response. Vicky Car Zone in Navi Mumbai has been an absolute dream to work with. Prompt responses, fairness and top quality work, they’ve got them all. Vicky the owner went as far as assuring me that I can pay when I am satisfied with the resolution. I left my car with them and they did the work within 6 hours. No wonder their premises is flooded with luxury cars of all makes and models. 11/10.

Re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

6 year and 89k Km update

Octavia has been performing flawlessly with no issues to report. Completed the annual service at Brite Skoda Noida and since it was a part of the service pack, the bill was a big fat nada for the service.
However, Skoda being Skoda, did rile me up by sending me a big fat estimate of nearly 2.5 lacs for overhauling the suspension, replacing the disks and pads and timing kit.

At 88k km, I was still on the original disks (front and rear) [Yes I drive cautiously and avoid aggressive braking] and the pads were last replaced at 45,000km. So got those replaced at Skoda along new brake fluid. Costed 35,000 for all inclusive of tax and labor.

I knew the suspension was in need of some work, so went to my trusted FNG and ever evaluation got the following parts changed (struts were found to be perfectly good)
- Link rods
- Bushes for the lower control arm
- Suspension top mount
- Engine mounts

The entire front suspension was opened, cleaned, generously lubed and installed back. The car drives beautifully now and there is not a single noise from the suspension. As a preventive measure, got the timing kit replaced too. Car feels and drives like brand new once again and is now sorted on all aspects for its remaining 4 years of NCR life.

The mileage, as has been case, has been amazing. On a recent Noida-Amritsar-Noida drive, we averaged 26.5 and local mileage has been between 15-17 as well. With the Jazz CVT added for local Noida use, Octavia will see some drop in local use and will now primarily be used for office runs to Gurgaon and highway runs.

While I do realize that the replacement is at-least 3/4 years away- the thought of having to find a worthy replacement has already started giving me nightmares.

Drive safe!

Hi Rohan, happy to hear this!

Even though my Octavia is up for sale on the Classifieds, I will retain it if we don't get our asking price. Hence wanted to know the approximate costs for the suspension bits. Share if possible?

It was around 13k for all the suspension parts. I have unfortunately lost the estimate bill it was not more than 12-13k for sure. The timing kit was 12k and I paid 7k labor for the entire work.

Good luck finding the replacement!

Apparently there is a DRL control module on the RHS which is placed near the front right wheel and is susceptible to water ingress which is what I think has conked off.
I am not sure if it’s worth replacing it as the DRLs don’t serve any purpose.

Is there a way to permanently disable the DRL??

Cheers,

Any help on this folks?

My DRLs went yellow last year. Had disabled them through the HU. You can’t fix the DRLs. I got both headlamps changed at 25k each. However I did get a 30 percent goodwill discount on the pre-GST price which is present with my ASC in form of credit.

Unfortunately, the only way to permanently do this is through coding. Not a big task by itself though. Just Google for VAG coders and loads will pour out.

Alternatively, you will have to turn it off manually every time you start the car.

35k+ update

Summary:
Everyone who reads this thread already knows how kick-ass Octavia is. It's pointless for me to repeat about the brilliant driving dynamics, highspeed stability, refinement, quality and such.

While I would have driven this a lot more, I took delivery of the car a few months before the pandemic hit us. So the car saw more of my porch than the tarmac in 2020 and 2021. Here (Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)) is my first post about it.
Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)-whatsapp-image-20220912-17.48.21.jpeg

Details:
  • Model: Black, 1.8 TSI, L&K
  • Date: 2019, October
  • ODO: 36k.

Modifications and part changes:
  1. Replaced the entire sunroof and the glass on the roof under warranty because of the rattle.
    Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)-whatsapp-image-20220912-17.48.20.jpeg
  2. Upgraded the wheels from 16" to 17" OZ Leggera HLT (Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)) and wrapped it with 225/45R17 ContiCS5. Everything based on this initial thread (Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)) and all the suggestions and warnings from the members. The ride quality has definitely taken a hit. This is apparent in the first few days of driving, and then you don't notice it any longer. The unexpected side-effect however was the change in steering weight. It was super evident to an extent that I feared that I made a mistake changing the stock alloys.

    Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)-whatsapp-image-20220912-17.48.21-2.jpeg
  3. Battery replacement at 32859km/2.5 years. Got the battery from the ASC as they mentioned that they might void the warranty if it's done outside. Didn't want to risk it.
  4. Dechromed everything except the L&K badging. It was too thin for the folks to remove and repaint without damaging it. It looks too gorgeous to just remove altogether.
  5. PPF on the hood to avoid rock chips on the highways. Still not sure if it was the right decision as the PPF has started accumulating a lot of scratches which otherwise could be removed by polishing the clear coat. I've been hearing horror stories of PPF pulling the paint with it while removing it. I got it done from Detailing Mafia in Kochi and I hope it'll be of good quality.

Planned mods
Still evaluating remaps with no hardware changes. So essentially Stage 1 or 1+. Inclined to go with Wolf Tuning because I loved the way they patiently explained everything to me. It was based on a suggestion I received on this thread (Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)).

Issues:
  1. I have to get the side view mirror lubricated for every service because it starts making weird noises after a while. I guess it has to do with the pressure washing.
  2. The sunroof rattle keeps happening now and then. Ironically, it happens primarily when the car is parked in the sun for a while. But it's practically non-existent in comparison to before-replacement.
  3. There was an annoying vibration from the drive-side door when the audio had a certain frequency of bass. I reported this to the ASC the very first month of taking delivery. They removed and refitted the door panel which did nothing. I didn't have the heart to keep doing it because every time they open body panels, it becomes lesser and lesser perfect. But right now it's become unbearable and I will be getting it checked for this periodic service.

Some more pictures (Unfortunately, no picture after full chrome delete).
