Even the dealer here in Ahmadabad is telling me the same. But this answer is being given to me since I bought the car back in November. So first it was November end, December end, and so on. Let's hope they finally get it out before 31st March 2014. What do you reckon the cost to be? When I got it for my Laura in 2011, it was a meager Rs. 15000. I am assuming this time its gonna be at least double that.. Or may be even in the 40k range. :eek:

The Skoda shield is one with the insurance and the extended warranty for 2 years extra and 100,000 or unlimited miles.

She said around 15 - 20k for the extended warranty part only. (I hope this is true)

There will be an option to only go in for only the extended warranty and not take the insurance which is part of the Skoda shield.

They only give you the extended warranty if you take insurance from them.
The only exception is if you are leasing the vehicle, in which case they can get approval for the warranty. At least that's what the sales reps told me when I was enquiring.

The 1.8 TSI will cost you about 22L in Delhi? If you spend another 4-5L you can probably get a 2012-13 328i in that money and there is no comparison between the two cars. Beemer is a BEEMER.:D

Here's the update.

Finally got a call from the dealer that my Elegance Tsi would be available for the delivery in a week's time. :D

Now as everyone knows how good are the stock tyres, i would like to ask all the Tyre Gurus and the Seniors to help me decide upon what tyre to choose
from. Would really appreciate if Nikhilb2008 could put some inputs. :confused:

I would be changing them right away and can consider upsizing if need be; but would like to stick to the stock size and my stock alloys, As I feel its pretty much sufficient even for speeds as high as around 180-190 kmph. (suggest me if I am wrong)

The choices available according to the websites are :

BK Tyres of Lajpat Nagar, Delhi ( one of the best tyre shops I know of, something t-bhpians of Delhi can also vouch for) advised me ( for my cousin's car) either the Michelin Primacy 3 ST --- 205/55 R16 or the Pirelli Cinturato P7 205/55 R16.

This suggestion was based on the same queries as your barring one which was that my cousin did not want to change from the stock size.

I would feel that the 215/55R16 would be an incorrect upsize, the right one should be 225/50R16. ( i had 225/50 R16 on my Skoda Octavia MK1 vRS)

Also you can exchange your stock tyres within 100-150 kms of delivery for around 5500-6000 bucks.




By the way, which colour, which dealer?

Second that, he advised me for Michelin Primacy LC and I am very much satisfied with the performance and comfort.

Some points for the consideration are:
a) 215/55R16 was only considered for its height = may be a bit of more ride comfort, thats it.
b) 225/50R16 was the least of the consideration, considering that it would be put onto a Petrol variant and its impact on the FE. Although I would have loved to put this size on.
c) So may be all I am left with is the stock size.


The dealer is Arshia Motors and the colour is WHITE. :)

Need some more light on the characterstics of the mentioned tyres.

When did you book the car? It looks like the dealer in my town ain't getting any tsi's! Loosing patience waiting !

I would strongly advise against the 215/55 combo , as this would lead to a 2% offset from the original spec, which is not very advisable.

225/50R16 would definitely impact the FE and also stiffen the ride a bit, but the performance would go up considerable notches, but yes, if you are skeptical about the FE, then you can give this a miss.

Stock size would work perfect.

According to BK Tyres, the Pirellis would be preffered considering they are both performance and comfort based and are the OEM tyres in Audi / VW across the A4 and Jetta Platform ( same as the Octavia - well almost) and are tried and tested to work on these cars with the same engine and suspensions.

Also you would be able to change all 5 tyres (selling the old within 100-150 kms) for nearly 8000 while changing to the michelin would mean spending about 20k on the whole bunch of 5.


Personally speaking, I have followed Mr. Jeetu's (BK Tyres) advice for many years now and haven't been disappointed even once. I would say, go for the Pirellis..

I wanted to get the tyres changed too. But after driving my car around I find the stock tyres are really good. Even for the TD we had driven at high speeds.Infact the ones in the car have a speed rating of 240 so there is hardly any tyre noise anyway and the only difference my tyre dealer told me between michelins and the stock tyres the only difference would be in terms of the life of the tyres.
Made no sense to change tyres and hence using the stock tyres as of now.
Just btw seeing the number of people who aren't getting delivery I feel plain lucky to have managed getting a vehicle without booking and within 3 days of making my mind up!

I had booked my 1.8 TSI in December 3rd week. They had given a lead time of 12 to 16 weeks. So, I was expecting delivery at least by April. Just got a call from my SA in Coimbatore that it may be another 2 months before I may get the delivery. The reason is that only 8 to 10 petrol cars are allocated for the whole of India. This is totally frustrating. Looks like we petrol heads are a great minority in India :mad:

Now I am seriously considering canceling the booking and finding another petrol car. But the options are too limited. There is no other petrol car that can give the performance of 1.8TSI. Jetta 1.4TSI and Vento 1.2TSI are the only alternatives that I can think of. Thoughts?

Edit: Linea T-jet is another good option. But the interior space is a big let down there.

Graaja, you've waited so long, don't give up in the last leg of the race now. Crank up the pressure on the dealer and get the 1.8 TSI as soon as you can. The Vento or Jetta (in petrol avatar) are no match for your choice and going for them will leave you with buyers regret. The T-Jet is a decent shout, but 2 out of the 3 cars you've mentioned are a segment down. Are you truly ok with a downgrade, so to speak?

There really is a paucity of high quality, driver friendly petrol cars out there and you've picked the best one this side of 20 lakhs (give or take). Nothing else compares really. Wait for it, I would if I were you. If you were to switch to diesel (and that opens up the playing field a whole lot!) your choices become so much better. The Jetta comes into play, so does the Cruze, maybe the XUV too. The Elantra and Fluence could be factored into your plans too if you're ok with going down a little on power.

Think about the petrol v diesel argument a little, and if you opt to stay with petrol then you should stick with the Octavia too. Good luck.

Thanks mate, for the encouraging words! As you rightly mentioned, Jetta TSI is not match for the 1.8, and Vento TSI or Linea would be a downgrade which actually is not ok with me - just shows my frustration. So, I think I will wait it out.

Also, if I decide to go the diesel way, then I will look no further than Jetta :)
