Absolutely true, CD player is ultimate waste of space and money, instead they should have given USB port rather than proprietary ports.

The adaptive lighting and bi-xenons are fantastic, can't live without them anymore.
Hi PrabirTalati,
Which model do you own? Is it the 1.8TSI Elegance or the 2.0TDI Elegance?

re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

Hello guys,

I have been looking at Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSi Ambition trim for my father,
but his concern being he needs a reversing camera as parking space at our apartment is too tight for a vehicle as big as an octavia.
Skoda India is not offering any reversing camera even as an accessory for this particular car. So, when i asked the dealer (Sarra Motors, Aurangabad) he said the whole vehicle warranty will be void if i install an aftermarket rear-view camera.

I went ahead and wrote an e-mail to Skoda India customer support.
After about 2-3 follow ups and a month passed by,
I received the following reply. Hope Skoda brings out the rear view camera as an approved accessory or as a standard feature soon.

Note: The below reply from Skoda India is dated 24th October,2013 and yet no official announcement from them.

Dear Mr. Antariksh,

Greetings from Skoda Auto!!! Acknowledgement

We are in receipt of your below mail and had noted the contents. With regards to the query raised by you we would like to inform you that non genuine parts are not advisable in Skoda vehicles as it may hamper the warranty. Further we would like to inform you that the reverse parking camera are under observation and it will take 4 to weeks more. Kindly contact the nearest authorized dealership of Skoda for assistance on the same.

Trust your kind understanding on the same and assuring our best services at all times.

re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

Hi All,

I am looking to buy the skoda octavia but I would prefer to buy a 2014 make car. I called up the local dealership and asked them about the 2014 make car. But I was surprised to know when the sales representative told me that the 2014 make will only be available in April 2014, not before that.

He said the reason for this is that skoda maufactures in batches of three months or something, which I could not really understand.

Can you guys please help me here. Is he telling the truth or just trying to force me into buying the 2013 make cars.

What he is telling you is absolutely true. All manufacturers follow this process and it depends on their manufacturing volumes which dictate whether they carry 2-3 months supply depending on demand and market conditions. Similarly when I inquired regarding a certain BMW I was told the 2014 models would be available only in March'14, which would then be subject to price increases from next year and also to any budget impact in the new financial year. In my experience when you register your car in 2014 it counts as a 2014 car and people rarely check the manufacturing month or year when the time comes for resale. So its down to personal preference since what extra you may get for a 2014 manufactured car may get negated by any price increase in the next year.

I dropped in at JMD Skoda, Autobahn Skoda and Senator motors today. I've been talking to Senator for the last two days since they had a Race Blue Octavia at their Goregaon showroom, but they were getting it to their Chandivali showroom today. I dropped in to take a look and it. Was. Stunning. I've been dithering a lot between the Cruze and this, but seeing this in the flesh settled it. The Octavia it is. I'm going to book it next week. Here's a pic of it below. Beware, it's NSFW as it's a bit of car porn. And yes, it does look better in the flesh than in the photos.

Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)-image1346995879.jpg

Senator and Autobahn refused to commit to giving me a 2014 car, but JMD assured me I'd get only a 2014 car if I so desired. All three promised me a delivery time of at least 8 weeks, but JMD said it might take until February end or beyond to get it once booked. So getting A 2014 car isn't as onerous as it's being made out to be. Whosoever raised the issue about not getting a 2014 car easily, sorry I can't quote and reply to you since I'm typing this from the phone, but I hope my reply helps if you're reading this.

Yes it does, esp in that VRS trim with a lowered stance, wide low pro tyres and those gorgeous alloys!

The blue looks stunning. Is it mandatory for notchbacks to come with rear wiper in Europe? IIRC, the old Octavia had wiper for some variants here too.

Thanks. Petrol. The 1.8 was too addictive to let go.

My 1.8tsi has run almost 1000km of delhi traffic with 2 one hour stop-go jams, and giving 11km/lt and this when being run in. Which ain't that bad considering my sx4 gives me 10km/lt, you made the right choice.
Also be very gentle with the car, I can very positively observe that the more mileage you log on the more responsive this car becomes, try to avoid the temptation to hit greater noida/yamuna expressways till you run in the car
