Don't worry about it at all. I have been living it with since purchase and many owners abroad have also reported the issue. It was very very irritating initially but i don't even bother now.

re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

The Octavia Onyx TSI launched in Oct'19 is already out of stock ??!!

What is going on with Skoda? Why launch a BS4 car in Oct'19? Why does a model become unavailable 3-4 months after launch?

Nothing is going on with them. They were 'simply clever' with their inventory management.

The current generation car was never meant to be upgraded to BS6 norms. With the new generation already launched, they put together whatever remained wherever, did some feature alignment (or re-alignment), gave it some black bits (again available in other markets off the shelf) and a price correction and sold them as soon as they could!

re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

Managed to get ceramic coating done after a month of purchase. This one is Crystal coat, done at K-force Hyderabad, with a cost of 19000 ( 3- coats). I am a bit surprised by the cost as I thought it would be higher , although results look good on first day. Pic below:

Which insurance did you opt for and if it is from outside is there any issue with claims?

Additionally, I wanted to check on the tyre change on the Octavia. I am planning to swap the Goodyear NCT5 to Michelin Primacy4ST immediately.
How much was the final RTO charges, I have been quoted 473985 for Ex-Showroom price of 2359599
And how much did you shell for swapping the tyres and where was that from?

Is there a warranty and periodic maintenance on it?

Thank you in advance

Vendor mentioned that the coat should be good enough for 3-4 years.

Yes, there are some guidelines described by vendor to maintain the car. This may vary slightly depending on your local vendor/coating type used etc. :
  • Stop using your local watchman types for daily cleaning (this is the key)
  • Use Jopasu duster to dust off the car by yourself/trusted person regularly
  • Do a pressure wash yourself or from local Car wash once a month
  • Use separate microfibre cloths for windows and body if you need to wipe to remove any stain/dust
  • And if required, 'touch up' coating can be done once a year/once in 18 months (cost approx 2000 as per my vendor)

re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

Has anyone installed a dash cam directly from Skoda dealer/ service center.

After reading the recent thread about a fellow BHPan attacked by miscreants, I badly want to install a dash cam. However, I don't want to take any chance with warranty and hence checking if Skoda dealer themselves provides an accessory.

Not from the dealer, but i have had one for over 3 years now. It is hardwired and there have been absolutely no warranty related issues at all.

Not sure if any Skoda dealer would give you the hardwired option, but just get the one that you like and install it yourself. If using the 12v point, make sure you disconnect everytime you switch the car off as it is always powered on.

Cheers
Rohan

I had enquired with the erstwhile Vinayak Skoda and they asked me to get it installed outside. Ordered a DDPAI Mini2p with 128gb Samsung SD card. Got it installed by a 3rd party called Pitstop (they have a app too). Didn't hardwire. But if I keep it plugged it records when parked also. There is a auto switch off option after 6, 12 and 24 hrs when the car is parked. Happy with this dash cam so far! Please check below thread which has a detailed discussion on dash cams:

This is applicable for all cars with or without coating if you want swirl free paint surface.

Quite a nifty feature. I hope it gets popular with other models.

That's good. Ideally they should remove the navigation option and provide dash cam as the additional item and do a factory fit as well. That would add one feature missing in Octavia compared to Tesla

In fact, Skoda UK dealers already have a formal tie-up with Kenwood to install dashcams. See below:

re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

A relaxed 50 km drive from CBD to KIAL and nearabouts with cruise control set at 78 km/hr. :-)

On another note, I hope the virtual cockpit has changed the design of that accursed plastic cover on top of the MID/ analog dial area. The surface gets badly scratched as you can see.

re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

I have a query on insurance renewal of my Octavia.

Background: I had taken a long term insurance last year with Bajaj Allianz. First year is own damage + 3 years third party.
First year own damage premium (included drive assure) was 41k which I have to renew now. IDV was 19.5 lacs.

When I called Bajaj allianz for renewal now, they are charging 40k again just for own damage insurance although I should be getting 20% NCB. IDV is reduced to a shocking 15lacs.

I called up policy bazaar and they are giving new India assurance own damage policy for 20k (IDV of 17.8 lacs)

My queries
1. Does taking an own damage insurance from new India assurance make sense. This means I have two insurances - one for own damage and one for third party ( for 2 more years) . Is there any issue in this?

2. Does new India assurance have tie up with Tafe service center. How easy or difficult it will be to process claims. Bajaj Allianz have tie up and claims processing is pretty easy.

3. How do I get a better quote from Bajaj Allianz? Policy bazaar advisor told me that unless I'm switching insurance provider I won't get a better quote. Could this be true?

Please advise.
