Re: BMW 320d: Joy comes home, My ultimate 3

@drmohitg

The BMW sales person had informed us that if you leave your bag on the rear seat in the car and go away after locking it, if the bag moves, some alarm comes on. I tried that (by sitting in the car and asking someone else to lock it from out and then moving the bag) but failed to get any alarm to come on. Have you tried this feature or was it just fake information?

The do have a motion sensor in the car that comes along-with the alarm system.

You have to figure out whether you just have central locking or the alarm system installed too.

The motion sensor can be disabled if you press the lock button on the remote twice.

I wasn't told any such thing. Maybe it doesn't come in the base variant although according to the brochures the safety and security features are all standard across all the models. Will have to check.

The 3 series doesn't come with interior monitoring. That starts at the 5 series in India. Look above near the front cabin lights, you will see slats meant for the interior monitoring but they will be shut off from inside.

That's funny. My humble Vento comes with this feature. And it works too.

Thanks a lot. Infact I browsed through your car pics multiple times since at one stage I was leaning towards choosing a white car with black interiors as the all beige interiors didn't look that great. But then somehow I felt the white and red looked best only in sportsline 328i trims with that red stitching et al.

A question to you that I had already posted before but still looking for an answer. Even the dealership replies haven't been very confident on this. Quoting from previous post below:

What is the best mode to be on when you come to a stand still in traffic like at a signal?
1. Keep the car in D mode with brake pressed ( causes the right foot to start aching, more so as it was used to relax all these years with the MT cars).
2. Shift it to P mode +/- hand brake engaged
3. Shift to N mode +/- hand brake engaged.

Again someone said when you are parking your car, first you need to shift to N mode and then P. Can't I straightaway shift into P from D? Does that hurt the car?

According to the manual N is only for getting the vehicle towed or during those western style car washes. Otherwise no role mentioned for N mode.

Yes the Vento did have this feature, but it was removed when they added steering controls, etc.

I shift it to N myself when at a long stop light.

I previously used to put in P mode, but to engage D from P it is slightly a bit jerky as compared to N to D which is ultra smooth (Also theres no need to press the button on the right side of the gear lever, which you have to when shifting from P to D)

Regarding keeping in D mode only, well you may leave it in D mode if you know you are going move from the STOP LIGHT in < 30 secs, if more then it makes sense to shift to N.

If you keep it in D you'l be asking the transmission to move in the forward direction but at the same time you're on the brakes (preventing motion) which will unnecessarily wasting more fuel, wearing out the clutch & wearing down and heating up your brake pads as well. So by shifting to N you will save on the fuel & the A/T with slightly less force applied on the brakes.

Regarding P mode it is best used when to PARK the car only

Re: BMW 320d: Joy comes home, My ultimate 3

Finally got time and brought home accessories worth 15k which were part of the deal. The y basically had all BMW merchandise and the choice was between Bags, Sunshades, Watches, Keyrings and Miniature car models etc. So sister selected a couple of travel hand bags and some car care products. The total came to 16k and they didn't make a fuss about the extra 1k.

Apart from also got transparent car mats. The beige ones which came with the car were proving a pain to maintain and now with these transparent mats life is much more easier.

The 2 travel bags

The car care products

Hi drmohitg,

The bags look good.

I am also planning to buy car care products from BMW. Do post your feedback about those, especially the leather cleaning foam.

BTW, do you know the cost of BMW polo t-shirts?

Rather then buying bmw car care products, i'll suggest getting better products for less $$$, though i haven't used bmw car care products but am sure there are more better products available in the market.

Sorry don't know the cost but the SA has promised me 3 of those. Will get them in sometime.

Regarding the car care products, once again I will be using them when I am in Delhi next time ( January end). Will post a feedback that time.

Well isn't it too early to pass that verdict? You haven't even yet tried them once. Ofcourse they are costlier than the usual stuff but then have to see the result before taking a call.

That was seriously quick! Thanks

Do you know any good product to clean the leather seats? I want to preserve the original leather smell and don't want an overpowering smelling products.

Edit: @drmohitg, good that you will be getting them for free. I will show this thread to my SA and try to get same.
