Sorry for the late reply. Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. it sure did clear my doubts.

They say patience is a virtue, but i sure was running out of it. After having booked the Octavia 1.8 Elegance with 2 different dealers and having waited for more than 6 months, I decided to call it quits. Well there's a reason for that too. I was slowly falling in love with something else. Something which i had not even given a thought initially. Its just been 2 days since delivery and now im so glad that Skoda din't deliver the Octavia on time

Here are a few quick ones taken on the phone.

The Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI DSG Elegance.

There is no AC problem anymore, at least in my 2 year old 19k done TSI MT. They solved the issue in 2012. It chills and chills...

My uncle is still not happy with the cooling in his Superb TDI DSG. It's also a 2012 March model year car.

It's ok most of the year but Kolkata summers he keeps complaining. I've tried the Auto mode in both modes as well as manual recirc but he says it's still not as good as the Innova from before.

Front cooling is ok but rear is the main problem.

I doubt if there will be a difference in the AC of the Petrol and Diesel models. Maybe there is because the AC on my December 2011 manufactured but model year 2012 (as per VIN) is just perfect even in peak Delhi/Meerut summers where temperature reaches 45 degrees. It is comparable to my Fortuner's AC which chills equally. The Superb's AC gives peak performance on high auto mode in conjunction with recirc mode on fully shut and not on auto recirc in which some outside air creeps in, jfyi.

Yup that's the one. High Auto mode and fresh air mode off (not auto recirc mode). I tried that and it didn't help much during peak summer.

This is 2012 March bought and was also 2012 VIN Superb. I asked him to have it checked during first service.

In the Innova if you get down after sitting for 10-15mins in the car, you glasses get fogged (Kolkata humidity) but it isn't the case in the Superb at all.

There definitely seems a problem with your Uncle's particular car. The fogging test, as you quoted, works very well in my Superb. A good way to test the air conditioning btw, lolz. Also 2-3 other Superb owners that I know have no complaints about the AC. They are all manual petrol models btw.

Waking up an old thread. I somehow missed the replies on here.

The AC is good mostly throughout the year except in peak summer. And the issue is never for the front two seats. The front always stays cool no matter how hot it is outside. But in peak summer the rear tends to be a few degrees hotter. This is mainly because i tend to reduce the blower speed. The problem what i've noticed is that the blower speeds of the rear vents are way lesser than the ones in the front. Even at full speed, its no where close to the ones up front. I wish they had given a more powerful blower and individual fan controls for the rear. Since i'm most of the time in the drivers seat, i cant complain

I'd second that. It's been more than a year with the car and it always puts a smile on my face every time i drive it. The car is just brilliant on the highways. It can cruise all day peacefully and return crazy fuel efficiency which would even put smaller cars to shame!

And when you do want to have fun, a few taps on the paddles is all it takes !

Honestly i don't like the way this car looks compared to the new Octavia. So it was a tough decision to cancel the Octavia booking and go for this. But the comfort levels you get in the Superb, i doubt any car <50 lakhs would give! The Superb really spoils you that way.

Hi, amazing efficiency on the highway. What about city driving and the overall average?

Well, it's a completely different story when it comes to city driving! In chennai crawling traffic i get about 5 to 6 km/l ! But then that's not entirely the cars fault. I kind of enjoy the sudden burst of power when i get a bit of road ! im guessing that if i'm careful i would get around 7 or 8 km/l. This is in Chennai. When i'm in Kerala, i usually get around 10 to 12 km/l. What i've noticed is that if it can shift up and not just stay in 1st and second gear, the mileage improves a lot. The overall average mileage shown on the display is around 10 with more of city driving than highway. Hope that helped.

Hey thanks for the detailed answer and an overall average of 10 is pretty good for this big a car with a powerful engine.

Have PM'ed you my number. Let me know if I can call you anytime today.

Another attempt to sell the remaining Superb Zeal editions rehashed as an 'Anniversary' edition: http://www.skoda-auto.co.in/models/superb/anniversary
