Re: My original Baby Benz - 1989 Mercedes 190E 2.6 LE

Congrats on the buy! The car doesn't look very old, certainly has its class!

btw, the clock in the middle of all the gauges, I haven't seen that anywhere else. (I wasn't even sure if that was a clock!)

That was a trend in many mercedes' of that era. An analog clock along with other gauges.

Fantastic Baby Benz. Absolutely Love this.

There is a 190E 2.5-16 in Kolkata, owned by a BHPian

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/vbpicg...do=view&g=3595

Same car - difference set of wheels:

So the final count is 4 190Es?

Sorry but both cars are totally different

The 190E 2.5-16 is a 4 cyl 2.5 Litre engine with a cosworth designed head. Power is peaky and you need to revv is to get the power.

The 190 2.6 is an inline 6 - some refined and a great touring car

I think he meant 2 pix of the same 16V, with 2 different set of wheels. Oe's in the first and Pentas in the second.

Re: My original Baby Benz - 1989 Mercedes 190E 2.6 LE

Sold my 1993 model 2.3L 190E for 1$ (yup a whole US dollar) along with my house four years ago.
Folks thought I was nuts to do it, but then it was the only way I could beat the persuasive guy trying to bargain with me to sell my home for way lesser value in an already severely down market and moreover thought it makes great bragging right to be pompous and claim a buck sale for a merc.
With the same dollar, I then bought a cigar from his store and smoked it

What a lovely maroon car!
Even the condition of the upholstery looks as good as new.
They truly built their cars to last, those days.
And I especially love that piece de resistance....the plaque stating that it is a Mercedes product and signed by Gottlieb Daimler.

I think it was sold again, so really have no clue.
It was a nice car and even though it was a rear wheel drive, I enjoyed driving it in the winter conditions of New England with half a dozen bags of sand placed strategically in the boot to give additional traction

Re: My original Baby Benz - 1989 Mercedes 190E 2.6 LE

Some more snaps to share, clicked recently. Updates on the car:
- Solved a coolant leak - new bypass hose did the trick
- Using now STP fuel additive (missing redline SI-1 here) with every tank full (no difference seen so far)
- On a recent highway journey, hit 140kmph. Car was eager to go more, but there seems to be either a fuel pump relay issue or a distributor rotor problem which is bogging the engine down right after 4K rpm (almost like a governor kicking in). This happens in any gear. And its perfect below that rpm.
- On that trip, economy was around 9-9.5kmpl. I am hopeful if I solve the problem above, the economy might also improve.
- Solved a sticky accelerator issue.
- Replaced a faulty air-speed control switch for the blower.

Apart from that its been pretty good sailing so far.
