Some more updates!
Received a letter from the dealership last week citing some issue with the steering joints which may cause the airbag to inflate on its own without any collision. So it seems it is a voluntary recall to fix this issue. I am not sure if this has something to do with the Takata fiasco or not.
Car was sent to the dealer and the entire process was finished in about 3 hours.
Brake Update
The car has done 36k kms and today got an error on the MID regarding brake wear. The dealership diagnosed it as a wear and tear issue with the front pads. So those need to be changed. Expected damage is supposed to be INR 21k. So all 4 would mean around 42k.
Mine got fixed too last week. Its part of a global recall. My car has crossed 60k a week earlier. Was at the luxedrive event early March. It was a fun event. Got a feel of what these cars can do in a practical disaster scenario. Feel a lot safe as B180 also can do most of the tricks they showed except the off-road stuff. The pre-safe and ESP are really working underneath the hood each time we try and navigate out of a crazy scenario.
4th Service - 39k KMS
This was a biggie!
In addition to the standard things that get changed every year, this year the gear oil was also changed (about 5 litres of it). SA says that this is changed every 4 years, so the next oil change may not happen while the car is still with me.
Rear brake pads need to be changed in another 5k KMS or so. Front pads were changed a couple of months ago. As were the tyres, all 4 of them.
Quite happy with the service, though at Rs. 65,000 it is still pricey.
The car is used primarily by my Dad and the biggest advantage that he gets out of it (according to him), is its high seating. Never once has he complained of back pain or expressed the need to upgrade to an SUV just because he wants a higher seating position. Even grandpa is comfortable! He won't even sit in my S60! Horses for courses, I guess.
That's all folks!
Hello folks! Is it worth picking up a 2015 model B Class for around 12 lakhs and 50k+ kilometers on the Odo? Also, how much would I be spending on maintenance? And what do I need to look for?
Thank you!
Hi Guys,
Is it worth buying a May 2015 Merc B180 (Petrol) AT, MH Registered, run only 52K genuine Kms. for Rs. 7.00L? It is a Second Owner car belonging to a foreigner who is returning to his country.
I know this question s taboo in a Merc showroom so I will ask it here...What mileage can I expect to get from this car?
A friend who has driven the car says it is in very good condition with a silky smooth engine.
What expenses am I looking at in the near future?
Presently, 2 tyres need to be replaced and 2 panels to be repainted.
Service history will be disclosed tomorrow.
No accidents or flood damage.
Thanks & Regards,
SS

As a well built utilarian tool. It is okay as long as you have an good non dealer workshop. It is not an enthusiasts car. Try it and see how it feels

For comparison's sake, my Uncle sold his 2013 Mercedes B180 Petrol for 5.7L to a dealer in August last year! Car had done 34k kms. A few months later it was listed for sale at a dealer for 9.75L!

Hi PPS,
What was his overall experience with the car? What sort of average was he getting and was it easy to source spare parts in the local market?
Thanks & Regards,
SS

Overall experience with the B class was good. They had bought it more as a status symbol. They sold the car because the maintenance was quite expensive. They only sent the car to the Authorized Merc Service Centre. I was pestering them to hold onto the car & get it serviced at some good local garage but they sold it one fine day. Mileage wasn't that great, around 10-12kmpl at best if I remember correctly. They had some issue with the paint as well.

Sounds like a good deal to me if everything is in order. Taking the powertrain and weight into account, I guess you would be looking at 7-9kpl in the city and 10-13kpl on the highway (I might be wrong). Even I was looking for a B-Class for my parents but came to the realization that it would probably be better to cough up the extra dough and buy a used petrol automatic S-Cross instead since you'd probably get more mileage, have to spend less on parts and enjoy a more trouble free experience. It all depends on how much you value the badge I suppose.

Is this the post facelift model? I bought a similar vintage B200 CDI run 70K a year back. Have driven 30K and 2 services, I enjoy the car. Am thinking of remapping it though.
Hi People,
Came across a 2012(end) Merc B180 petrol (Not a sports variant) with slightly over 100K on the odometer. Single owner, service history available, serviced in Merc showrooms throughout. However, one of the rear taillights has a crack and front left suspension on one side, has a thud when going through potholes.
It's at a dealer. How much would be the fair value for this in Cochin, Kerala? Any idea? It's being evaluated for a family member.
Thanks a lot.

I paid ₹7 big ones for mine, a late 2014 B180 CDI, over 113K on the odo, single owner (owned by Auto Hangar Mumbai).
A reasonable price for a petrol version with over 100K on the odo should be the same since yours has been serviced at the authorized service center/s.
