A couple of questions if you can help -
- How do i program RCD510 to give pre-outs ? Any links ?
- Which are the Scosche connectors you are talking about to convert the speaker outputs to RCA ?
- Why didn't you consider installing Amp under the passenger seat - i found that to be the best location in my Cedia before this as Boot space is not compromised at all
- Which amplifier switch are you talking about ? The unit which i changed to in my Cedia didn't have a separate amp switch if i recall - amp was always on. Or maybe my understanding was wrong ? |
To program RCD 510 follow this link: http://www.my-gti.com/1411/volkswage...tory-amplifier
Instead of Going to Navigation in Step 1 you have to goto Radio. Rest all the steps are the same.
Then you need 2 sets of Male Female adapters that plug into the back of the stereo and the existing wiring harness: http://www.amazon.com/Metra-71-9003-...tra+volkswagen http://www.amazon.com/Metra-70-9003-...swagen+70-9003
You can also buy these from AliExpress (they are late. I have 2 spares), or equivilant Sosche adapters.
The you need 2 sets of the following: http://www.amazon.com/Rockford-Fosga...ds=line+to+rca
These plug directly into your speaker output for front/rear and give you RCA. Since you would have already done step 1, you are good to go.
This picture should give you the idea for cabling:
Lastly if the amplifier you are sourcing doesnt turn on by sensing speaker inputs (most high end amps do) then you need buy an adapter/trigger for remote that turns amplifier on by sensing the speaker inputs. http://www.amazon.com/PAC-TR-4-Remot...urn+on+adapter
You will most likely end up needing your stereo code (VW can give this to you based on your serial number over the phone) & clear Airbag error code post your install using VCDS.
Hope this helps.
One last thing, for equipment always refer to reviews on the internet. I found that generally market recommends a brand that they have in stalk. I sourced everything online and then paid 5k for install. This way I had complete control over what I was ordering. I did get condescending looks of why buying 4k Rs Polk rear co-axials for fillers but trust me the system just rocks. The system doesnt sound harsh, its not extreme treble and packs the right amount of punch without making things in my car make rattling noise. You can't go wrong with this setup and its the best upgrade I have made in any of my cars.
