How reliable is the Average mileage indicator in the Innova. Mine always hovers around 11 but i have seen my tank full to tank full go down to 10 as well.

Mileage is something you shouldn't expect in the innova. The maximum I have got till date in my innova is 13.65kmpl that was because of state highway where a speed of 80kmph was the maximum possible. My average in the city is always consistently in the range of 10.5-11.5kmpl (Chennai). The worst FE that I have got till date was 9.7kmpl where the car was driven at 120-140kmph due to free roads on the way to Kodaikanal from Chennai. Except this one off instance we always maintain speeds in the range of 90-110kmph and get about 12.5 kmpl on an average during highway drives. But let me tell you every time this car comes back from service you will have a huge grin on your face cause the cost is very low for a car costing so much, only every 40k kms the bill is in the range of 8-12k rupees since it is a major service. This has been said time and again but nevertheless I shall say it once more the reliability of the Innova is unparalleled!!! Enjoy the workhorse!

I agree with your numbers. I have once recieved 9.8kmpl in only city driving conditions and it was taken during my first usage of 450kms in city with AC on. Later once I was accustomed to innova, it started to give between 11.4 to 12.1. All these averages are for city with AC on and tank full to tank full. On my long run to Ahmadabad 2 months ago and my this weeks Ajmer trip, it gave me 11.8 to 12.15kmpl at a steady driving of 120-130kmph with occasionally going to 140kmph. The car had 4 adults and a kid with good amount of luggage.
In another recent trip to Pune-Aurangabad-Pune with 15% city driving, I achieved 13.56kmpl where the speed ranged between 90-105kmph.
Whatever 7040kms, I have clogged in last 3 months is with AC on. I am so loving my Innova that the kms speak whereas my Palio and Bullet stand idle..

For Highway rides, I usually inflate the tyres to 35/37 psi, +2,3 psi more than the recommended pressures.

I feel your expectation of +14 mileage is difficult to attain. Even for very long highway ride, with almost sedate driving, 13kmpl is the usual outcome.

Good hint there Anurag. I need to have a close look on the drivers side door to check the specific tyre pressures for the Innova. I always check the tyre pressure early in the morning with my pressure gauge "Accurate" make and top it up with my old trusty foot pump. I have long stopped going to the tyre shop to check the tyre pressure.

Congratulations on completing yet another successful trip and feel sorry about those 2 unwanted punctures. Any particular reason for the 2 punctures on the same tyre? What was the object that punctured the tyre (nail, sharpnel, screw etc)?

I totally agree with you. Now I have corrected my expectations from Innova on mileage front, 12 kmpl seems to the average all across, anything around 13 is great and breaching the 14 kmpl mark would be super-duper.

As I mentioned earlier 80 kmph seems to be the sweet spot for the Innova (or for any other car for that matter) as far as mileage is concerned.

I agree the low service bills and the bullet proof reliability are the biggest USPs of the Innova and these two made me fall for it.

That is some serious running that you have done in the last 3 months. For me in the last month and a half, I have done around 2.7K kms. A majority of this can be attributed to my daily office commutes and only 400 kms was due to a long trip to Nasik that I did last Monday-Tuesday. Same is the case with me. My Indica has hardly hit the road after the Innova took over the mantle from it. My bike and scooter are facing the same fate.

I feel the sweet spot of the engine is at 5th gear 2500rpm. The speed is around 95kmph. The car is extremely silent too at that speed at least in my car I feel like that. Try being at that rpm and let me know.

The recommended pressures is F = 31 psi and R = 29 psi. What I have been doing is F = 33 psi and R = 31 psi.

Good that you fill in air yourself and not the fuel station fillers. Will PM you add i need details on the foot pump as I am in the market for one. I have a pressure gauge already.

Don't worry, I am very very confident that the Innova will make you clock more miles even though you wouldn't want to. This car is an addiction.

Just now returning back from the one day trip to holy place called Gondavale (Satara District). We were 6 adults and 2 kids. Started @ 07:45am. Took the route Hadapsar - Saswad - Jejuri - Nira - Lonand - Phaltan - Dahivadi - Gondavale (167 kms one way). Total distance covered 337 kms

I forgot to carry my point and shoot camera and had to rely on my phone camera to capture some moments. Sharing some snaps taken during the trip.

On the way back, just beyond Jejuri we halted at a hotel called "Madhuban". This was a good find. Not only the food/ snacks quality was good, but the ambiance was very pleasing. Some snaps taken in and around this hotel.

Dean5545, just wanted to share with you that during my trip yesterday, on four lane stretches I could maintain 2500 rpm in 5th gear, which corresponded to a speed of 95 kmph and agree: with you completely that this is the sweetest spot for the engine. Car was cruising so effortlessly with minimum noise as you have rightly mentioned. Now onwards will try to maintain this speed on open roads whenever possible.

I check tyre pressure before starting for 34/36.

Gauges (even digital) at petrol pumps are highly suspect for accurate reading. So i've invested in a Michelin digital gague and just y'day got Slime twin cylinder inflator.

Friends, finally I have achieved it clap:. A mileage of 14.09 kmpl in today's tankfull. Today while coming to office I did a tank full (the same bunk from which I had filled on 3 earlier occasions). Tank gulped in 43.08 litres of diesel (actually 1-2 litres extra after the auto-stop mechanism cut off the fuel) and the car had run for 607 kms since the last tank full, giving me a mileage of 14.09 kmpl. This is the best ever mileage I have got in my last two months of ownership (and 7 tankfulls). Finally getting a hang of how to drive the Innova to extract the best FE figures.

Out of the 607 kms, 340 kms were done on an outstation trip (to and fro) with 6 adults and 2 kids (speeds ranging between 80-100 kmph on open stretches) and the balance 267 odd kms were done for my daily office commutes (single occupant). AC ON most of the times. Only during 2-3 late night return trips from office to home (due to very cold weather) AC was switched off. Also for outstation trip I had increased the tyre pressures to 34 and 35 psi (front and rear). I believe this might have contributed a bit to the increased mileage.

The previous owner of my car had not fitted any mud flaps due to which the sides steps were getting dirty quite often. Today I fitted a set of 4 fibre mud flaps for Rs 350/-
