re: Preview: Hyundai Creta

The person who sent me these photos says that it happened during a test drive. Strikingly similar to the crash during the Ford Ecosport media drive in 2013.

re: Preview: Hyundai Creta

the creta has a waiting of upto 16 weeks here in mumbai, i had just visited them, the showroom had several prospective customers, couple of them even paid the 25k booking the car and happily accepting the long wait.
Hyundai, mini sante fe, has surely created some buzz for itself. With the s-cross expected to be launched on the 5th of August, IMO opinion wouldnt make a significant difference to prospective creta buyers or Hyundai..

This is definitely during a test drive for no registration number, must have been a reckless driver testing the limits.

re: Preview: Hyundai Creta

I thought about a week back that I had decided on my next car and that it would be Creata AT. This was with the information from people at my dealership that the onroad price would be about 15.5L. Now I am told that it would be 16.7L which in my opinion is overpriced. If it was the SX(O) for that price then I would have gone for it.

Now I am wondering if I should spend the extra 1.5L because I want an AT SUV or go for an alternative such as the EcoSport Titanium AT. Test drove Ecosport and I did not like it that much. The engine is just not upto the mark. Or should I wait for the next AT SUV which might me VW Taigun. Suggestions welcome.

Team, here are the two in-segment competitors who stand directly against each other.

First pic is a collage, while the second is a direct capture. Pics are courtesy my FB friends.

If I am not mistaken Taigun would be in the fortuner/Santa Fe Segment. Upward of 25L for the AT. So unless an xuv AT is launched, I don't see any other AT SUV under 20L on road launching in the near future. You do have the Scorpio AT though. But that costs as much as the Creta and unless you need proper SUV characteristics, Creta would be the better option.

Also, I think that the reality is that the Segment price limits have shifted. So new launches will also be in line with the competition prices.

OT: Taigun is a sub-4m compact SUV in the planning. So I think it should not be in that kind of price bracket.

Oh right sorry. I mistook it for the next gen Tiguan which is expected to launch next year. Did not know that that compact SUV was called Taigun. Very similar sounding names.

So the Creta has a free run in the diesel AT space till VW launches this compact SUV next year.

Overall if someone wants a diesel AT now, I don't see any value in waiting for the next launch. Hyundai had said these are introductory prices. So it is only going to become more expensive.

Dear BHPians - We are a part of a very responsible forum and hence it is very important for us to verify the facts before posting anything.

The information I have is that the Creta didn't crash. During a test drive a pedestrian was knocked down and the irate public toppled the CUV and inflicted the damage seen here

Oh yes! The names are very similar sounding.

Even if they make it premium, Taigun will still be a sub-4m SUV. In the 15-20L space, I think a decently comfortable 5-seater is what one should be targeting at. The ideal competition would be Honda Vezel, Renault Kadjar, Mahindra/Ssangyong (Tivoli, Korando etc).

I am just hoping, if this product, garners volumes (which I think it has the potential to), it should open the door for other guys to walk in.

But your earlier post in context of AT is also correct. That is: Even if a sub-4M AT comes into market, it would make a lot of sense. The Taigun with a DSG has a lot of potential and that too at an affordable price. (But then its a separate topic to discuss)

re: Preview: Hyundai Creta

After all the cat and mouse game that Hyundai played, finally the car is out. All details of variants and prices released, though it was nice buildup to the 21st with RavenAvi giving out one piece of juicy information every day.

The price is what it is and has been discussed over the last 20 odd pages. No amount of our sulking is going to change that. Only if it translates into massive cancellations which the dealers at least in Bangalore are denying, Hyundai may come up with some respite during Diwali (right now they are offering 50K off on Verna and 70K on Santa Fe).

I don't know if this summary is right after reading the last 20 pages but here goes - Creta is probably overpriced by about 1.5 lacs and people who are stretched thin will settle for the Duster and people who can stretch a bit more will settle for the XUV while some on the fence will go for the Creta.

I hope we will have more detailed test drive reports. So far we have seen only observations and 5 minute TD results which are inconclusive.

re: Preview: Hyundai Creta

Slightly OT, interesting to note that Renault has discontinued the Duster 85 RxL+ model (ex-showroom BLR ~ 10.3 after 50k discount) which came with ABS/EBD & dual airbags as standard.

It could mean that they are going to introduce either ABS (like the Creta base) or driver airbag (like the S-Cross base) or BOTH if we are lucky across ALL variants. From the picture of the white Creta and Duster posted a few pages back, Duster can definitely hold its own especially for the base variants.

If they are truly adventurous, they could do something radical like the sudden price slash they did on the 4x4 in February 2015! That would really set the cat amongst the pigeons :-)

I think Yeti would score better at ride quality & engine-wegine side.

I also think a big plus point of Hyundai would be their a.s.s. Nissan/Renault has just one per town( on an average) whereas Hyundai would be 2-3.
