On the same note, I have a question about the engine immobilizer. I have seen a blinking red/yellow light in other cars when they are locked and parked...or even the immobilizer sign blinking in the display panel. Haven't noticed any such light in my Creta. How can I be sure that the immobilizer is functioning? Any opinions?

Also, has anyone tried with a replicated key? FYI...Mine is an SX and it does not have a start/stop button.

Meanwhile...I have gone through all of the 15 pages on http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/owning...car-theft.html ...for now, I am getting tempted to install some visual deterrent in my Creta.

@INDIAN: Apparently, service guys will re-program new key(s). Alternatively, in an emergency situation, recovery specialists can "re-program" the car itself to work with a duplicate key. I do not know the details here though and would really like to know how it really works.

There is already a thread to discuss the vulnerability of keyless cars :

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...asy-steal.html

Lets use the above thread to discuss about Keyless car vulnerabilities.

Apparently for other Hyundai cars, there is an alarm upgrade kit available which includes auto door lock/unlock features, chirping horn for lock/unlock/reverse, warning on door open, etc.. not sure if it includes the blinking light/led. Saw this kit at the dealers place for Hyundai Verna upon enquiring for Creta alarm kit.

The dealer is not aware if it is available for Creta as of now.

BTW, received a feedback/survey call from apparently Hyundai's office about the car buying/dealer experience. The call was received from a Noida landline number.

re: Review: Hyundai Creta (1st-gen)

Is anyone facing problems with the Navigation System on the Creta? I have had my Creta (Automatic) since August 6th and completed about 4000kms on it so far. Have tried to use the maps extensively for these road trips and even within the city and this is what i have found.

In my opinion, the maps aren't really reliable in three ways:
1. Software Hangs (It could be a problem with AV coding but only seems to occur when using the maps).
2. Maps Database is quite lacking where its not able to find even some popular destinations
3. Takes longer/unpreferred routes in comparison to google.

Thus, i am wondering if its at all possible to change the map input without changing the head unit itself.

re: Review: Hyundai Creta (1st-gen)

Guys,

My friend recently bought the model just below the highest on the range.

It came with OEM Kumho Solus 15 inch tyres. He went for a tyre upgrade to Yokohamas.

We were left very shocked as the tyre dealer showed us how he could press into the OEM tyre's contact patch upto an inch with his thumbs without much effort or pain. We tried the same thing with the Yokos and Continentals but the tyres didn't buckle, infact our knuckles hurt if we pressed down too much.

I have been telling any Creta owners I see on the road to upgrade their tyres and asked them to try the thumb trick

Wonder how the Good Year 15 inchers fare.

hmm...some doubts remain...

1. How do I (the user of the car) know that the immobilizer is functioning fine. Surely, there must be a way. The amber lamp for the immobilizer glows when the vehicle is started. Is that enough?

2. Does anyone know what immobilizer type is used on the Creta? Apparently, some cars (like earlier Scorpio/Safari's) had an immobilizer that was too easy to break and steal the car.

3.What is the immobilizer fuse in pulled out? Will the vehicle be immobilized? Or, will the immobilizer stop working.

Really? Bit surprised by that. Never heard Creta comes with 15 inchers...and Kumho Solus. Can you please clarify?

What does "contact patch" mean please? Are you indicating that the tyre is so weak that someone is able to push a tyre with 30+ psi by one whole inch with their thumb? I am not good at physics but how does such a tyre even carry 1800 odd kgs and react to the usual stones/potholes on usual indian roads?

I am not making a statement on your integrity as an individual my friend but I am somehow finding this a bit too hard to believe! By the way, how have the other Creta owners you have asked to upgrade their tyres reacted??

re: Review: Hyundai Creta (1st-gen)

Slightly OT.

Got to test drive a 2016 Tucson last week while I was in US. My colleague there was looking for a new car. It was a 175 bhp 1.6L Turbo engine. Must say it felt pretty lively even though I cannot compare to Creta since I have not tried it yet. Not sure if the engines are same with a turbo installed there. The overall look is quite similar with about a size bigger than Creta, but smaller than Santa Fe. Attached is a comparison of dimensions. Btw, it is not cheap there either with about 24k asking for the mid (ECO) version which is about 2k more than a mid specced Accord sedan.

https://www.hyundaiusa.com/tucson/exterior.aspx

Given below is a short comparison of dimensions.

That's one terrible accident. Looks like Creta held up pretty well. By the look of the interiors I believe the passengers (thieves) were probably saved. Air bags deployed and the front part of the frame took most of the impact.

I have seen several new Cretas come with Kumho Solus tyres, but I think they are 16 inches. Saw one at the dealer with Kumho tyres and was wondering if it was better than the Goodyears. So apparently Hyundai has shifted to this brand now.

I think the thumb trick was tried on the deflated tyre when it was being changed

In my opinion, people who let dealers cheat them are the lazy ones, ones who don't care about ethics. They just want things NOW. One can imagine how such people must be making their money. The saying "Birds of the same feather flock together " applies very well here.
No Offence Taken :-)

Agree with your viewpoint on the people who give in to the Dealer tactics

I haven't (now hadn't) been pursuing through Facebook but through their Customer Service & Regional POC's

Haven't had the opportunity yet, but will be cancelling the booking latest by tomorrow

Correction, they ae 16 inchers and definitely Kumho Solus range.

Contact patch is the part where the treat runs.

It was done when the tyre was removed. We also did the push-down test on brand new Continental and Yokohama tyres. The compound which Kumho uses seems to be some dangerously soft variant for a car that has to carry passengers in safety...

Try it if you get a chance...

Hi Shakensoul, what surprised or rather stunned us was the other brands we tried - Yoko and Continental - didn't flex.

Am no expert on tyres but it felt quite odd...
