Re: My pre-worshipped BMW X1 (E84) - Titanium Silver Crossover

Great review.
The X1 is a perfect blend of size, ground clearance and power making it the most practical car for India.
Infact your highline model has the bigger idrive screen as compared to the 520d and X3!

Congratulations for the buy. The car looks like a great buy. While I've never driven an X1, those who have, only have praises for the car's road manners and steering feedback.

Thanks for sharing such a detailed review. Wish you many many happy kilometers with this car.

Thanks wilful. Yes there are lot of good cars but finding with extended BSI is the main issue. Their were examples where dealers switch the ODO to miles to show low mileage. I myself came across such examples.

Thanks Ardy. Yup beamer is a worthy upgrade for vRS.

It is interesting what all tactics dealers employ to fool prospective buyers. Thanks for sharing.

Hi V&V,

I think you got a good deal.
I love BMW's. All of them equally, however X series have its own benefits under Indian driving condition.
I am surprised by the absence of cruise control but you would not need much of it as long as you are within Delhi.
So in next NCR meet, we would focus our discussion on your X1.
Congrats & Happy driving.

Yes, Dealers many of them even don't know if the tyres are RFT or tubeless.
Surprising part is i test drove over 15 beemers and none had a space saver wheel.

Hearty Congratulations on this purchase, V&V. A crisp, clear review. The car looks to be in a very neat condition. And it does attract a lot of attention on-road.
Happy Motoring!

Re: My pre-worshipped BMW X1 (E84) - Titanium Silver Crossover

Big congratulations to you for the X1 , it is a lovely car and very practical compared to 3 series when we take into account the terrible roads we have here, that you got the BSI Ultimate with it is a big advantage and gives complete peace of mind, you do not have to pay anything for maintenance till 2017 right?

We are also looking for a used X1 with the new 8 speed ZF gearbox and have so many doubts, will PM you regarding it. Did you get the car checked at any BMW dealer or some mechanic prior to finalizing the deal.

Congrats again.

Thanks satrikon. Well very subjective question as city like Delhi has plenty of Beemers,Bangles & Benz . So nothing as such but must say you definitely get road respect. May be if i drive to some smaller town , it may attract attention.

Thanks coolboy. BSI Ultimate is just like company warranty. So i presume i would not have to pay for the repairs.

I did get it checked at the BMW dealer itself and bought it after inspection only. They may charge you from Rs 5000 to Rs 8000 for the same.

Re: My pre-worshipped BMW X1 (E84) - Titanium Silver Crossover

Congrats on the great buy. X1 has all the fun of a 3 series along with peace of mind of the ground clearance. When I was deciding on my ride, I did TD X1 and it was absolutely fun to drive (RWDs so often are). It's a pity they are going to get the FWD version out in future.
Had a question though. Any idea how it compares to the 8 speed auto?

Re: My pre-worshipped BMW X1 (E84) - Titanium Silver Crossover

Congratulations!
The X1 is a 3-series with easy ingress-egress. You just walk-up and sit.
Although many don't like it, this is one car which has excited me more than any other car. You've got a great machine.

Your X1 has the legendary BMW Hydraulic steering set-up(and I love it), but it gets ugly during parking, dead traffic and slow turns. How's your experience so far?

Your previous ride is a Legend. I hope you are retaining it.

Thanks AZ911, IMO FWD is for base version and the 2016 version will have AWD option too. 8 Gear ZF tranny will be more efficient on highways and cruising speeds. I don't know if it will have any major impact in city driving.

Thanks viren. Yup its little heavier. I like this kind of setup and even my vRS has similar setup. Its not at all that bad and is absolutely breeze to park or in slow turns. Never felt an issue.

Wish i could. Holding the car is easy but it will not do justice to the beautiful machine. It will need to be driven around frequently to keep in healthy condition. So its wise to part with it.

Re: My pre-worshipped BMW X1 (E84) - Titanium Silver Crossover

Sunday DIY

Updated the iDrive software.
Process is very simple download the bin file from below link by feeding the last 7 digits of VIN.
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/con...re_update.html

Copy the file to a pen drive. In my case the file name was UPD01008.bin

With car switched on , Select software update from setting menu and follow the instruction. Time took about 2 min. After update i didnt find any change in menus or functionalities

After

Also finally i got time to take the beemer for a spin on Yamuna expressway. Drove all the way till Mathura exit and back. It was awesome fun driving in DS mode. Super impressed with the steering feedback and high speed stability. It achieves top speed at around 3500 - 3600 rpm. The engine doesn't feel strained at all.
