Re: Above the Ordinary : My Crossover, the Maruti S-Cross

This is how consistent the S Cross can be in FE figures. At 130 km after service, gives exactly the same mileage as just before the service ( so no tampering or software upgrade - a few reported cases)

With almost the same figures on ODO, my 1.6 gives around 10 kmpl less in Bangalore traffic I consistently get an average figure between 12.5 to 13.5 kmpl in pure city driving. Hell, only a very sedate session of driving on open highways gives me figures that you boast of.

The 1.3, especially on your car has some magic in it, Im sure No amount of pussy-footing can give me similar figures.

BTW, is the service center Bimal, Mahadevapura? Looks very very familiar to me.

During my car hunting process last year, abhinav.s and myself spotted your car in evening hours while it was coming from HAL junction. We were on a bike and I immediately told it was your car by just looking at those alloys To be honest, we literally followed your car until Bimal NEXA in ORR and the alloys look awesome in motion.

Re: Above the Ordinary : My Crossover, the Maruti S-Cross

In approx. 19 months of ownership and crossing a milestone of 20k km, it is great city car with very little to complain about- both the car and at the Service Centre.

But I do the following while servicing the car,
- Will not use the pick-up /drop facility
- Will stay with the car during service and get things done if minor and not listed in job card( MASS is very okay in this- unlike VW where you are prohibited from entering the service area)
- Never use their 'free' wash facility - will always do a full wash at 3M ( thrice a year)
- Power shine at 3M ( Once a year)

Now am getting to know the meaning of reliability as my other ride is a VW

Crossing the milestone on a sultry evening in Bangalore city traffic,

...and here is the typical traffic seen,

Re: Above the Ordinary : My Crossover, the Maruti S-Cross

Service call for 30k km taken a bit early, the S Cross now at ~ 26,5k Km mark.
Service done in ~ 5 hours ( 8:30 - 1:30).

In a nutshell a very satisfied ownership, and below are some highlights,

-Very able in handling tuned suspension in city.
-Phenomenal city drive CONSISTENT mileage, averages to 20+Km/l
- Light clutch ( compared to Polo)

Some issues right from day one. Did not pursue dealership solution fearing they have no clue for a solution to it, could further worsen.

- Squeaking driver seat ( looks to be foam as seen only in body movement)
- Driver glass - shuddering observed when closing to end position
- Both fob keys show low battery condition ?( ~+2 yrs)

Though informed on the Android-Auto firmware update they were just not very sure and more so did not want to be the first from them seeing their hesitation. Will do so later.

Re: Above the Ordinary : My Crossover, the Maruti S-Cross

Last service done on Dec-17, the least expected of all, had to visit the Maruti Suzuki dealer at the nick of time again 11th Feb -18 for the below incident.

With experiences in the past (with VW) am usually am very sceptical whenever taking the vehicle after service and will normally check for leakages (especially engine oil drain).

All looked okay and also the S Cross driven to Coorg with all indications seemed normal. However did not open the bonnet as the service was just done ( and the area has no rats , since cats are always around)

However on 10th Feb on checking the floor, did notice it being a bit damp. Thinking it would be due to washing of the floor and yet to get dry, however thought of checking the engine bay. And was shocked to see the housing was filled with coolant. Having read some cases of engine overheating on S Cross and as well as Ertiga (known case) immediately contacted the dealer SA.

Fixed appointment for the next day, but was convinced it was a leakage of coolant at the outlet of the engine and would be the start as the level in the coolant container was between the high and low levels.

Being Sunday and traffic was relatively nil, reached the service centre at 9:00 am. Being a NEXA car ( or due to the problem) preference was given, job card done and the work started almost instantaneously.

What further was discovered is they are aware of a few cases and Maruti Suzuki has instructed to keep a watch on this part on service calls.

Further revealed are:
1. The new part has a new design ( and part number)
2. Maruti Suzuki is keeping a close eye on this issue
3. The part number is different for DZire Tour

The entire work was done in 2 hours the vehicle was test drive, checked for leak proof joints, thermostat function ( fan on/off).
Commented by the SA as a goodwill gesture the job was done on warranty and free of cost.

The big question is whether this is a batch problem or an inherent design issue? Will Maruti Suzuki issue an alert or will do so only on a case-case basis.

Alert to all S Cross owners to check for leakage at the engine bay or atleast keep noting the temperature gauge to see if abnormally high when on drives.

The commendable job in the whole process is the Maruti Suzuki dealer SA’s and their prompt action to end the entire episode with a sense of neutral feeling!

The pictures depict the episode in detail:

Coolant puddle on engine housing,

Work starts, extremely laborious, involves dismantling many sub-assemblies including the battery.

Recently I was at a spare parts store buying some parts for our Omni. A FNG mechanic came with the exact same thing (the part which you changed) & asked the store manager for a new one (to fit in a Maruti Swift Diesel). The store manager came back with two different types of the same part, one was made of metal (like your outgoing one) & one was made of plastic (like the new one you have fitted). Strangely the part which the mechanic initially brought (the faulty one) was the plastic type, maybe the part that you have fitted has a different part number (upgraded one). It may be possible that this part is prone to fail on a Maruti DDIS powered car.

I have booked a S cross alpha in Nexa blue color and looking forward to its delivery by month end. One of the major source of inspiration in making my choice over Creta, Duster, Ecosport and XUV500 has been your ownership thread. Thanks mate

Am humbled to know that my ownership thread ( being one of them) has contributed in your booking of S Cross.

From the days of its launch now Maruti Suzuki seem to have addressed the stance of the vehicle( to suit most Indian buyers) and is now clearly visible in the month dispatch figures.

Hope you have a great ownership and will be closely watching for your ownership thread, in anticipation.

Strange why they don't recall this and change in all affected cars. Are there any reports of the replacement plastic adaptor failing ?

Three years of Ownership:

Taken the 40k km a bit early, oil changed, filters changed, brake pad cleaning, Wheel alignment and balancing, Emission test and Battery change ( was showing the symptoms as seen in a delayed starting )
