Thanks very much for your kind suggestion. But my Palio D still be used as a city commuter. IMO, this NA engine is a breeze to drive in the city as there is no turbo lag and gives great mileage too. But Yes, we've to face certain problems for the sheer pleasure of driving.

UC Abarth Tjet will be used as highway cruiser. Hopefully, they will announce some discounts in the new year.

Re: 2004 Fiat Palio 1.9 D: The story of my pre-worshipped car

Car started to show some heavy smoke and other engine problems, mainly losing power etc sometime around in February 2017. Though, I bought Urban Cross Abarth, I wanted to run this car too. Hence, gave it another try with all new setup.

Updates:
- Installed New Front Suspension including Lower arms stabilizer bar bush kit
- EGR Cleaning
- ECU reset
- Replaced Diesel Tank
- Replaced with New Alternator, Belt
- New Timing Belt
- Replaced Tensioner Pulley
- New Water Pump
- Replaced with decently maintained Radiator
- General Service with Petronas Vision Engine Oil
- Installed New Air Filter /Fuel Filter
- Changed all fluids, coolant
- Bumper & Fog lamps installation
- New Number Plates
- Few other things...

My special thanks to Bhpian Micki9559 for his kind involvement to make this beast back into good condition. Without his support and help, this wouldn't have happened. Thank you my friend.

However, few things are still need a concern.

- AC is not working. I'm thinking to install Swift AC in it. But not yet finalized. Let's see how it goes.
- Complete body paining
- New seat covers should be installed once all things done

Now some pictures

Thanks for the kind words! Glad that it's back on the road with a bang after all the work carried out. The Car is looking great! Although after a much needed coat of paint, it will look even better.

Some more repairs

Car was doing fine until a mad evening. I parked the car for some shopping for a while, and when started, the gears weren't engaged. And then, I sensed some smoke smell. I immediately opened the bonnet, and for my horror, the fire on engine bay.

I called my mechanic and towed the car to his garage. Next morning, the list was endless. Transmission case, clutch control shaft, Clutch plates were broken. Also Armature and battery cables were burned.

I ordered Transmission Case, Shaft and cables in 99rpm. They took nearly two months and still failed to deliver the items, saying not available.

Finally through a kind friend, I managed to find the items on scrapped car and could able to restore the car. Also replaced the gear lever base support. Let the pictures speaks the story.

First of all thanks for sharing this brilliant review . It is nice to see someone holding on to a rare car like the Palio D, even in 2018. The initial advertisement for the Palio read something like " Inspired by Aircraft technology", I (9 years old then) was really impressed by this advertisement.

I am sorry for what happened to your car, though it seems the car is properly fixed now. I am wondering have you found out the cause for the fire? I mean the engine might again catch fire (God forbid) if the problem which caused the fire is not fixed.

Here is a brochure of the Palio D:
