Some Snaps- Exterior Shots

Adding few snaps taken today post work. No expert in photography, excuse me for the quality of pictures.

The Lord (I have always carried forward the idols from my exchanged cars, this idol, I have switched from my pocket-rocket)

Keys, thankfully Hyundai gives both the keys with remotes, unlike some manufacturers who give only one remote key

First Service Update

Hyundai has different service intervals as compared to their Japanese or European counter-parts. As per the owner’s manual, the First Free Service is at 1500 KMS or 60 days, whichever is earlier. In the second week of June I was nearing 1500 KMS, and as I didn’t want to skip the ODO, got the First free service done on 18th June 2016.

The service was done at Sai Auto Hyundai in Borivali, Mumbai. I had booked an appointment for the same at the start of the week to avoid confusion at the dealership

My Experience

Time allotted to me for the service was morning 10:00 hrs; I reach the service station as per the schedule, and meet an executive at the customer lounge counter. I inform her that I have a scheduled appointment for service; she directs me to the customer waiting area and informs that a Service Advisor would meet me in some time. That sometime apparently turns out to be 20 mins. Poor people management it seems here. Nevertheless, the SA greets me and we walk towards the car. Unfortunately, the service station does not have enough parking spaces within its premises, and the car therefore had to be parked outside. No problem here, but the problem is even the ready for delivery cars which are washed & polished for delivery end up being parked on the road biting dust till the time the owner comes to pick the car up.

After reaching the car, the SA inspects the car for any visual damages, probably a part of their protocol. & inquired with me for any persistent issues with the car. As I did not have any problem, I mentioned in negative. As it was a general free service, the car as to be checked for its optimal performance on all parameters. The time given to me to handover the car was 3 hrs, as I insisted on waiting at the service station.

Following things were carried out in the First Service
  • Putting the car on ramp for checking the underbody for any visible damages & checking the suspension settings
  • Checking the alignment of tires & general check-up of all the electricals in the car
  • Checking the all fluid levels in the car & topping up wherever required
  • Checking the AC functioning
  • Connecting the OBD port to scanner and checking various drive train parameters
  • Washing & waxing the car

Overall time taken to finish the activity was 2.5 hrs. Total bill came to 0. After being washed and waxed, the car was parked outside till the time I could settle the bill & take the gate pass. In that 5 minutes of parked on the road, a layer of dust had already gathered on the car.

Wouldn’t be a right time to judge the quality of work, as there was not much technical work carried out on the car. The only grouse probably I have with the service station is that the space is too cramped. Secondly, the drivers at this service station drive the car manically. I blasted at the driver who got my car out of the service station. First off all he slammed the accelerator to cover 200 meter distance & secondly he pulled the handbrake even before the car had come to a complete stop. Such idiotic morons I would say.

Great work there, the car does look pimped after the detailing.

The i10 Grand indeed is a very good car. We have the same model in our family and damn its really handy with the AT.

Why wasn't the Micra CVT considered sir ? This is also a really VFM car IMO.

Can you share the cost of your car detailing sir.

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (O) AT comes home

Congrats on the AT i10. Happy driving.

One safety issue I noticed recently was that the doors locking despite one of the doors not being closed properly. Even the door ajar signal did not show up on the screen. I came to know only when someone from outside prompted. So when I tried to pull the loose door to close it, the car auto unlocked and I had to push the lock button again. All this happened with the engine running. This certainly did not used to happen in my earlier car where the door absolutely would not lock if one of doors arent properly closed.

Thank you mate. Nissan Micra was a competent product too, but the only issue I found with the brand Nissan was, poor after sales support in my area & secondly, I found the packaging very basic as compared to what the Hyundai was offering. Also, most of the reviews that I read or saw on you-tube hinted that the CVT gear-box in the Micra had a prominent rubber-band effect that these CVT's are famously ill known for.

I did only exterior detailing done for the car & I paid INR 3450/- for this process.

Ooh surprising... I haven't noticed this till now in 2 months of ownership. Infact, what I have been noticing is that, if the doors are not closed properly, and if I center-lock the doors, the button automatically goes back to un-lock position which indicates that the door is open.

Secondly, another weird thing I noticed is, the seat belts not on alarm only buzzes once, rest of the time, there is only a indication on the instrument cluster. It doesn't ring again. Wonder how much would it cost Hyundai to give the continuous alarm like in C segment cars. It is very depressing when manufacturers skimp these important safety bits in the name of cost cutting.

Well I did not notice it for 2 years until recently . But yes Hyundai skipping on auto door lock with speed and constant buzzer for seat belt is a glaring mistake. In fact I inquired during my first service if its a software thing to get auto door locks but it seems like the hardware module itself is not present so nothing can be done. I have a kid and it took more than 6 months to remember to central lock the doors immediately after everyone has shut the door. Now its become a habit.

But nonetheless the Grand is a lovely car especially on the highways as with speed it sits nicely hugging the road. I always use triptronic on the highways. After the recent 3rd service my mileage has increased to around 12kpl 50% with AC, which was surprising as I was only getting 10kpl till now.

Is 12 kmpl the mileage you are getting on the highway runs or regular city runs?

First set of Modification

As in the thread, I had originally planned to do three modifications
  • Upgaded Dual Horn
  • White LED Lights on the number plate
  • Black Matt Finish on the B Pillar

Thankfully, last weekend I was able to do two modifications as the rains had subsided

Hella Dual Horn

Upgraded the Horn, from Single Low tone horn to Dual tone horn from Hella. The horn costed me INR 1100 inclusive of fitting charges. I purposely did not opt for the Skoda/VW type horn, as I feel the car does not have that character to carry of that horn well.

Secondly, after opening the front bumper of the car, we realized that the Skoda type horn would not even fit in here. The front bar on which the horn is fixed has enough space to fit hella/minda "pee-pee" type horns only. Secondly, the sound gets compressed as once the bumper is re-fit the horn sits very close to the bumper from inside. This somewhat reduces the sound output

Work in Progress
Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (O) AT comes home-img_3263.jpg

White LED Lights on number plate

White Lights on the parking always look good on white cars, hence I got the lights changed. damage to the pocket INR 150/- only

Second benefit I got from the white lights was the area around the car lits up very well

White LED lights.. notice the illumination all around
Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (O) AT comes home-img_4916.jpg

Probably, if it does not rain, I am also planning to get the B pillars Matt finished. That then completes my first set up modification

Hi Swanilrules, very nice thread here. Very informative and helped me decide too.
I was in the search for an automatic and a replacement for my Swift which I proudly owned for 8 years. The car is still immaculate and has shown little signs of wear. Usual servicing keeps it running well. But i know it's come of age and the expenses will only shoot up on the car. Besides being a manual, my wife drove it far too less. It's a pain to be driving a manual in the traffic conditions these days.
I got a good deal too with my car and have almost finalised booking the very same variant, wine red color though.
The fuel efficiency is the only downside to the otherwise brilliant car. I drove it today to only realise how superior ride it has compared to my Swift. Bad roads especially.
I'll be confirming my booking tomorrow. 15 days is what I've been told. Fresh price guaranteed...

Thank you mate. I am glad to know that the review has helped you in deciding the car. Congratulations, on booking your car. Grand, no doubt is a sane choice if you are in the market for buying compact hatchback. The choice of your color is brilliant too. I personally feel, that the car looks beautiful in wine red color. I would recommend getting the armrest fixed sooner or later in the car, trust me, your left hand will bless you especially, when you are stuck in traffic jams.

Thanks Swanilrules. I've already asked my accessories dealer to source one for me. An automatic really needs one.
Done the payments today. Should get the car in the next 10 days or so.

Ohh great I will be in Pune in the second last week of August. Probably we can catch up. And if time and weather permits, we can do the photo-shoot, as most probably I will be driving down in Grand i10 itself.

In-case you are planning to decode the VIN No, note that the current series of VIN in Hyundai's are updated. It is one alphabet less now. Due to this, decoding the month of manufacturing is not possible, however Year of manufacturing can be decoded. You will have to ask the Showroom RTO executive to provide you the month of manufacture as mentioned in the RTO application Form in case you want to know it. If I remember correctly, that form is numbered 18 to 19. Check it out though.

On a positive side, since Hyundai has started manufacturing this variant only from April, you will obviously get the car manufactured post April 2016 or of that month in case the variant is slowing moving in Pune
