re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

Car is chugging along at 38900 kms now. Time for the 40k service. Anything specific to look for other than those present in the manual? Wheel alignment and balancing I plan to get from outside. Brake pads still feel ok, do they last this long?

Nothing much. Just stick to the jobs mentioned in user manual.

Yes, brake pads can easily last more than 40k km. It depends on driving. I know few S-Cross 1.6 owners who have driven even 45k km on first set of pads. Anyways check the thickness of pads during service. I would be also nearing 40k KM service soon. Planning to add Ceratec .

re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

Did my 40,000 service today. The SA advised for the brake pads to be changed and said it will run for a couple of thousand kms max. Including the brake pads and routine service items, the bill came to 12000 including tax. Thought of getting the brake pads for SX4 and get it fitted as its cheaper but I know once the car is out of the service center, it may not again happen quickly, the lazy guy that I am.

The car is running fine, no problems (touch wood!!). ODO stands at 395XX kms

re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

Went on a trip to Munnar and back. Route was Chennai-CBE-Munnar-Theni-Dindigul-Chennai, total of around 1200 kilometers. As usual, the vehicle performed well, especially on the highways.

On one occasion in the ghat section though, it struggled to move up a fairly steep incline from stand still. For the turbo, I guess the lag is par for the course.

Odo stands at 41XXX kms.

re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

Went on a trip to Tuticorin and back, a distance of about 1200 km. Car performed very well, as usual. The onward journey took around 8 hours while the return journey was completed in 7 hours, including a break of 45 minutes for lunch. Being a Monday also helped I suppose as the traffic was very less throughout the route.

The Madurai by pass is in a better shape I suppose than what it was sometime back, but it still needs to be a lot more better. Hopefully this is sorted out in the next 2-3 months. The Odo stands at 444XX kms now.

Mods: Request you to change the title to 40,000 kms completed.

re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

My car's battery went kaput right on its second birthday last Sat. Enquired with the service center and they were charging 6200+ taxes. Checked with the local amaron guy and he quoted 5300 including the swapping. Went ahead and changed to amaron and its been fine since.

What was surprising to me was that the battery gave no indication. Till Fri night all was well and Sat morning it simply refused to start. Lucky it happened when I was at home. Hopefully the amaron serves for a longer time

re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

With a trip to Rameswaram coming up this weekend, gave my car for its 50,000 km service when the odo was at 489XX km.

The service cost came to 8100 Rs. with Wheel alignment and balancing included. I asked for this specifically as the steering was not centered properly. The guys did a decent job with the alignment and balancing and now its all good.

A quick weekend trip to rameswaram and back. 1200 odd kms done without any problems. Reached the 50000 milestone as well. Went to Dhanushkodi and came back. The road to the lands end view point is awesome with the bay of bengal on one side and the Indian ocean on the other. Very good road with no toll as well. Hope they don't get any ideas

Odo stands at 502XX kms.

re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

Quick 4 day trip to Nagercoil for a family function. The car ate up ~1700 kms over the trip with visits to Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari. No issues from a vehicle stand point, with an overall mileage of around 18.5 km/l.

The Fastag though was deducted incorrectly at 2 tolls. It deducted 2 single time charges instead of a round trip fare even though I passed them under 24 hours. Have raised a complaint on the ICICI website, let's see what happens.

The ODO stands currently at 535XX kms

Wow. Great write up You are munching miles fast at almost 25k a year. I am looking out for a car (mostly pre-worshipped) and some of the options you looked at (possibly new ecosport, aspire, S-Cross) etc are in my list of choices. Let's see how it goes. Meanwhile, i hope she serves you for many years to come. Happy mile munching.

Thanks for your kind words. My mile munching is nothing to what some of the members are doing. I know of folks in the forum who have completed 93000 kms in 2 years .

Best of luck in getting a good pre-worshipped car of your choice.

Darn! We were there in Rameswaram-Dhanushkodi the same weekend. We returned to Madras on 20th late night to preserve my sanity (read: avoid traffic and toll booth madness)

BTW it is Bay of Bengal on both sides.

Oh did not know that. Since the ocean and the sea meet, I kind of assumed its one on either side. Good to be corrected.

BTW, that weekend did not see much of toll traffic

Not to worry. They run the job once in a month, probably at the end of every month cycle and refund any 24hrs return trip amount to your Fast Tag account. You should be receiving a message from them as well.
