re: My Pre-worshipped Monster : BMW 530d M-Sport [F10] EDIT: Sold after 72000+km!

UPDATE : Oil Top Up.

Just like almost every night, Was out for a drive, Car in sports mode all the time and after and hour and half driving within the city, The oil Level pop up came up, I quickly checked the i drive and indeed the oil level had reached the minimum, This is the first time the car had actually drank a good amount of oil, Checked the shortcuts provided along with the pop up in the idrive & it said i could still drive 200 km with the oil level at the minimum, I reached back home at sedate speeds in ECO Pro and confirmed it with the dipstick indeed the oil level was at minimum.

Drove the car next morning to Navneet thane where my SA asked me to wait a while till the engine cools down a bit & by the time any signs of oil leak was also checked, Along with the complete under body of the car, Apart from minor scratches from under the front lip all was good to go.

All of the car was checked properly for any kind of damage/Leakage/ Signs of wear & tear etc.

Bought an Extra 1 litre bottle & kept it in the boot, Just incase, Since i do a lot of highway drives & since the engine is producing more power i might just need it, Surely being extra cautious with engine oil is worth it.

It was a sight to see though, 1 Litre of Oil was Added & the oil level was back to Max.

Also got the K & N filter, Haven't driven a lot post installing it to comment on it though.

How the stock filter looks

Every time i drive the car now post remap + Downpipe, I wonder what's the next most practical upgrade from this? As fast as this? seats 4 ? Practical boot ? Just of the perfect size? Nothing comes to my mind as the answer, She is apparently a superb all rounder now. Can't wait to put in Grippy tyres & Bilsteins! Until next update Ciao!

Weird. When was the last time you checked the engine oil level? Make it a habit to check whenever you fill up diesel.

For a combination of performance & practicality, this is as good as it gets. You could get one of the Ms or AMGs, but will lose out on practicality (especially diesel FE considering how much you drive). As far as size is concerned, any bigger and you lose out on driving pleasure. Else look at the S-Class.

Best would be a lateral upgrade to a pre-owned G30 530d after a couple of years. But I just can't digest its front-end styling.

Or you could just buy a panamera or a 6 series. Both comes in diesel. Both are more striking, have better interiors, have more luxury and hence offer a logical upgrade to a 530d.

Oh man! The 6-Series. Absolutely love the styling. You can't imagine the number of times I've thought of a lateral upgrade. But it's low ground clearance means it can't be taken to the kind of places that me & Tanveer take our cars. Both of us are heavy tourers.

Panamera is not my thing man. If Porsche, then Cayman, but that's a topic for another day.

I keep a check every now and then, Just recollected even before when the car was not remapped the oil level used to drop by 5-10% after driving for the oil's total life, Only reason? Sports mode + Aggressive downshifts! When i am talking sports mode means RPM is always above 3,000 RPM & aggressive downshifting at 3500 RPM too! All the way till 5,500!

Accepted this fact the day i decided i want to hope in the luxury car territory.

Fuel will be the biggest concern for me if i think of upgrading to a M or AMG, I travel a lot and even places where there are no fuel pumps! So surely the M's and AMG's won't be as practical as this. S class will be for me when i am too old to drive & probably when ill fall asleep anywhere i sit, Till then no no. Just mayb the E350, But its too long to be a driver's car.

Ditto, Not a fan of the G30 looks, It has lost the muscle which the F10 has, Still even if i set that aside i don't feel like getting the G30 530d, It won't be as quick as my car right now is post the mods & just for additional features it mostly doesn't make sense.

6 series is out of the question, Need a 4 Door car, If i had to buy a 2 door, I'd gladly buy a Audi TT & drop a good amount of mods to play with the power to weight ratio, But well i can't have a 2 seater, As for Panamera, Not a great fan, Plus the maintenance compared for the 530d will be for sure much higher, Hence i have mentioned 530d for me as of now is striking an amazing balance between, Power + Practicality + Looks + Maintenance.

Exactly!

On the other hand, Something very interesting about the BMW CBS servicing i came across,

For sure the conditions we drive our car is pretty extreme in the city, Add to that bumper to bumper traffic & personally my car is driven the way it is supposed to & does a lot of idling almost everyday, Which totally makes sense to why my car needs an oil change every 6000-6500 kms, Bhpian Danish9797 too gets similar oil change interval on his 520d with similar usage too.

Can this be attributed to the re-map? I have got on mine X5 but honestly, I am not very happy. The car behaves very differently (for good) when driven spiritedly but it feels strained (for lack of another word) at low speeds. Quantum Delhi guy is helpful and has changed the tuning twice but somehow I don't like. Will give another try else revert to the original map. Do recollect, if you have added oil previously, if not then probably you need to go little deeper. Of all the BMW's I have owned, except once, that too around 8000 km, I got the low oil warning and that was on the old generation X5 in 2008

Mostly, But ill keep a check on it, Post remap & downpipe its simply very tempting to keep the RPM high with aggressive downshift, The car is that free revving now!

Stage 1 or Stage 2 Map ? It should surely not feel strained, Infact the car would be even smoother & silent too! I had driven the car without downpipe for about 2 weeks and i could feel the difference instantly, More smoother and silent than before & completely different animal in sports mode.

Nope i have not, However some digging on the net & it comes out that its normal for N57 engines to consume some oil when they are around 30-40k kms mark on the ODO, Don't know how true that is but well the way she is being driven i anyways have to change the oil completely around 6000 - 6500 or tops 7k kms.

re: My Pre-worshipped Monster : BMW 530d M-Sport [F10] EDIT: Sold after 72000+km!

I think you should use thicker grade oil like Mobil1 0W40 or Liqui Moly 5W40, since your car is making so much power, I would even recommend Mobil1 5W50.

5W30 is way too thin for your torque monster.

Its like you read my mind man, I have been thinking of 5W50, So yes next oil change would be mostly this, Eager to know how would the motor respond to this and more over if it would give me the same oil life or perhaps a little better.

The one thing you will notice is that the engine will idle at a couple hundred rpms lower than before. But oil life should improve.

Go one API grade higher to 5W-40. 5W-50 may be too viscous for modern engines that use 5W-30 as regular fill. Only use 5W-50 if you feel the engine is overheating (which I believe won't be necessary with a xW-40 oil) or you plan to use the car on a track for all out performance runs. You will probably notice the viscous drag with xW-50.

Hi Tanveer. I am looking forward to purchase 530d white colour, 2014 model, odometer reading 12000kms. Car looks in mint condition. No repairs/claims have been done so far. Have confirmed from my source at BMW service station regarding genuineness of odometer reading. Guy said car is clean and perfect.
What should be the fair value of the car. Owner asking 42lac.

4 year old 530d for 42 lakhs in North India (where prices are lower)? Please ask the gentleman what he has been smoking.

Go knock off a couple of lakhs from this 2015 car & extend its warranty for complete peace-of-the-mind.

Thanks for prompt reply. This 2015 model also checked. It does not have BSI. Was delivered in July 2015. This one too is in mint condition, scratchless. I doubt warranty can be extended now. Want peace of mind by having 6 year warranty. Shall look for other options too. Might be able to shed off 2-3 lacs on this one easily.

The 2015 530D has 3 months of warranty left. Most probably the owner took 3rd year extended warranty. You can always extend the warranty if it is in force. So, 6 year extended warranty is possible.

You will not be able to take BSI if it already does not have an active BSI.
