Re: Driven: 2017 Mercedes E-Class

In my view, if someone were to opt for the S class grill at 2 lakhs and change the E220 to S350 -> that most people will accept it for the S class even if they sit inside the car

It is THAT good

Re: Driven: 2017 Mercedes E-Class

Dear sirs, this is my first post.

Does any of our BHPians have the E350d post Aug'18 update. There seem to be good offers going on 2018 cars and I just wanted to ascertain if the steering change and rear touch tablet were added in the August updated cars.

Also can the experts shed light on how the 350d is vs E220d regards ride quality and stability/handling? I have taken test drives of E220 and BMW 630D and the Bimmer definitely felt better to drive, more controlled and had a smoother and quieter suspension, but the salesperson says E350 is better than E220. I have read similar reviews online, but I would like our experts to comment on it since I trust this forum better.
BTW I am updating from previous gen E250d which I feel drives and rides better and is more powerful too, than the recent E220 LWB. So please share your comments and advice.

Re: Driven: 2017 Mercedes E-Class

I would venture to say that the E350d W212 is a nicer more balanced package. The E350d V213 has a fancier interior, more goodies etc but not as solid compared to the W212 (like what you have!).

The 2018 E350 versions do not have the tablets but it has air suspension which is missing on the E220d. am not really sure if we will get a BS 6 E350 with the inline 6 as not many were really sold. (As you can see, there is plenty of stock!).

As you are looking for a new car, my suggestions are

Owner driven + some space - BMW 630d - you can nibble big discounts
>80% chauffeur driven - If you spend a lot of time in town, listen to music etc - E220d BS 6
60% chauffeur drive - you drive yourself on the highway - E350d

Re: Driven: 2017 Mercedes E-Class

Thank you. I think I will go along with the E350d too. If the air suspension does make that minute difference in ride and driving dynamics its worth it. Plus I get the 360 camera too along with front memory seats and electrically adjustable steering. Also the discounts on the E350 make the difference in price with E220 quite palatable now. I really loved the drive feel of the 630d but the rear seat of E is just better. Also hope the air suspended E350 can come close to the 6GT.

The 2020 facelift explained in the video below. The changes should be here pretty soon as this is a CKD operation in India.

Re: Driven: 2017 Mercedes E-Class

Any idea what the brake life and replacement cost (rotors + pads) is on these things?

Re: Driven: 2017 Mercedes E-Class

Hi all, just wondering. My dad has a 2018 E220d that comes shod with Pirelli Cinturato P7 runflat tyres. What would happen if the tyres were changed to Michelin Primacy non runflat tyres? Would there be any issues?

Pads roughly last around 15-20k kms
Replacement costs around 40-50k for a set of 4

Discs last around 30-40k kms
Replacement costs around a lakh

Don;t get me wrong but the ride will only get better
The ride with those hard RFT's are terrible.

But do arrange and keep a full sized spare wheel in the boot while doing long distance travels.

Thanks. Was weighing the service plan that has the brake replacement as well. For a 2 ton 260 hp car, I estimated replacement occurs often (within 4 yrs), so I went ahead and bought the higher end plan. Your information indicates that I seem to have made the right decision. Could actually get worse with a depreciating INR, since I assume this stuff is imported.

Yeah, the Star Ease Basic makes no sense. It barely includes anything.
So the Star Ease Compact Plus is the one to go for, if one's car has a higher running.

Sadly Mercedes has jacked up the prices of this big time over the last few years.
I remember, we had first paid about 2L for our W212 E250 CDI's 5 year comprehensive service pack in 2015. Then about 2.5L for first lot V213's E200/E220d in 2017. Then about 3L for a V213 E220d in 2018. Lastly a hefty 4L in 2019 when we picked up the BS6 E220d Exclusive.

Infact Mercedes only includes, Servicing, Oils, Filters, Brake Pads, Discs, Wipers in their comprehensive one. Whereas BMW includes everything possible with their BSI Plus, hence the BMW service packs being cheaper, more feature oriented and also more VFM

If it weren't for the backseat, the BMW is a far more VFM buy.
