You could open the boot with the key from inside, have you tried that?

I think what he means is that the boot doesn't 'pop' open like on some cars. On the Octy, the boot only unlocks which still means the security guards have to feel for the rubberised button. In my office parking half the time I need to coach them to find the button

It does pop open with the key, no need to press the rubberised button.

Surprised to hear this - proof that one learns something all the time :-). Will try when back in town - must be a long press?

Do the struts have enough power to lever that heavy tailgate all the way up (like a powered boot), or does it just pop open a little bit?

Just a simple press on the 'boot open' button on the key fob, unlocks and opens the boot, then you have to push the bootlid upwards as usual from anywhere on it (no need to touch the unlock rubberised button), octy boot lid being integrated to the rear screen is too heavy to open up all the way by itself, in my Jetta it would pop open all the way. We always learn something everyday!

Thanks for an insightful review! I was not considering the Octavia for my next ride, however reviews on the Octavia by you and others from Team-BHP made my reconsider my options; so once again, thank you!

I am curious to know what is the typical FE on the 1.8 TSI (city and highway).

I live on the outskirts of BLR but drive into CBD in B2B traffic 5 days a week plus on occasional weekends too. Long drives are biannual.

My long term overall is 11 km/ltr with city being 10.5. Highway < 100 km/hr is 14 and anything > 120 km/ltr is ~12

I too have a problem in opening and closing the Octy boot lid.

I need to apply full force with one hand to lift from zero. As it opens 15-20% the struts can hold its weight from there on. The initial force required is embarrassing. My wife cannot open it at all.

While closing, the struts can hold the weight till about 15-20% from close. After that the struts simply give in. And the lid slams hard if I let it go. This seems hazardous if someone sticks his hand or finger on any of the edges of the boot. What I do is hold on the weight of the lid till about 5% from closure and then release it. It slams not too hard but locks all right. But this action cannot be expected from others, colleagues or security guards.

Is always like that? What do others suggest?
The SA at the Hosur road service center said it will be improved with OEM struts but not that much that I will be able to lift the lift with two fingers.
