I don't like the color! I LOVE IT. This color reminds me of the M3 CSL - good choice Karan. What have you decided about the CSL boot or the rear bumper?

Hey Karan.

Super Excellent Choice with the colour. The Silver Grey is one of the best colours on the M3. I now see what you meant by making this build as the best non M BMW 3 series E46 in the country. I am excited to see the car in real. May be some day I’ll drive to the part of Bombay where you live just to see how the car looks like in person.

Best,

Raj Bajwa

Karan,I would suggest you put a set of steel wheels when the car is painted. No matter what care you take, you will end up with a lot of overspray on your shiny alloys which would ruin the touch and feel of the alloys. Or if you have the old wheels that came with the car, put them on. Just a suggestion based on personal experience

I would second that Karan. No matter how much care is taken, some particles of paint make their way to the rims. When I had my OHC painted at RIO designs, Bandra, the owner Rehaan put in his own spare wheels as he did not want to risk damaging the chrome rims which I had on my car.

Thanks guys i do understand this point, unfortunately the previous rims (17") which i have do not clear the BIG BRAKE KIT hence i cannot put them on, likewise the steel rims may not clear as well but will give it a try. If not will have to pay strict attention on taping / masking.

Oh. My. God. Are you sure you want to carry on with a gloss clear coat?

I can understand this frozen finish is looking striking good as well, but IMO for a car this old i would always prefer the old school high gloss finish. Will share the end results shortly, hopefully by tonight

Great colour choice Karan Can't wait to see the end result!

Considering how particular you are about proper work on the car, don't you think the paint booth area is too dirty? Wouldn't the dust blow up and settle into the clear coat?

I am sure Karan is very particular about the paint quality and finish. It is impossible to control the dust which enters the paint booth after the paint is left to dry because of people walking in the booth to check the paint or for some other work. In order to minimize the chance of dust settling on the wet paint, most paint booths thoroughly clean the booth before painting or applying clear coat and wet the floor too. Few dust particles do settle on the clear coat even after all these precautions and these are easily removed while wet sanding.
Hope this helps

Good observation, i do partly agree that the booth was kinda unkempt with some bits of papers, a bottle etc lying around BUT it sure was dust free and had a proper air handling unit. Rest as Akib mentioned below the next process of wet sanding should surely take care of those impurities if any. Shall post some pictures in a bit.

So far it seems Team DADesign have done a good job with the paintjob

Next steps will be wet sanding the car (after 2-3 days) & 2 coats of polishing.

Hope everyone likes it

Incredible job man, Karan!

I am also planning to repaint my E34 - and you being a few steps ahead is turning out to be a god send. COuld you please share some more details of what parts you removed from the body - and what you think will need to be replaced. For example, the chrome window trim on my car dont look like they'll come off without breaking the clips.

Also - are you painting the inside of the boot/underside of the bonnet etc?

Finally how much did this paint job cost you - feel free to share on PM!

The car looks amazing! and I am impressed by the attention to detail - so many projects I have seen don't bother removing the black trim/ the door handles etc and just spray everything uniform colour destroying the cars lines.
