re: 2017 Skoda Octavia vRS 230 | 4 years and 83000 km

Nikhil,

How does one switch off the parking sensors' beeps when driving with traffic around? I press the button in the console as of now but it keeps getting re-activated.

In the vehicle settings from the touch screen, there is a setting which lets you turn on or off a feature where the sensors automatically activate if you are close to an object.

I am torn between keeping them on and switching them off permanently. Former is useful to alert me in case any retard on a bike is trying to scrape past

I had the same dilemma and decided to keep it ON in my Superb. The benefit seemed to outweigh the nuisance factor for me.

Are low beam and high beam - both LEDs? How effective are they?

Both are LEDs. However the high beam is not a projector.

They are very effective. I have no complaints. I'm sure they could be better but they arent bad either.

I did feel a little shortchanged though! 31 lakhs and no high beam projector? Come on Skoda!

That's nasty cost cutting. IIRC, even the Dzire has projectors for the high beam. The pre face-lift Octavia had projectors for its high beam in the bi-xenon setup.

Let me elaborate - the vRS has a Bi-LED projector, only one per side.

The high beam part is purely a reflector; there is no bulb inside. There is a small window on the low beam and high beam partition, when high beam is on, the Bi-LED light focuses part of the light to the corner, it passes through the window and reflects from the high beam reflector, giving you an illusion that all 4 portions have bulbs/projectors and are lit up at high beam.

It's kinda difficult to explain properly but if you look carefully at the lights you'll know what I'm talking about.

re: 2017 Skoda Octavia vRS 230 | 4 years and 83000 km

So, on Saturday, I reached Bombay after an epic drive. Sunday was meant for relaxation and of course, the Dream Theater concert! What a fantastic way to end the weekend!

On Monday, I had to drive to Pune for work.

A very relaxed drive from Bombay to Pune saw this.

For the entire trip from the pump near Kolhapur to Bombay and back to Pune, the average FE is 15.4 kmpl. This was higher as I was entering Bombay on Saturday night. A little bit of driving within Bombay and again this morning to get to the Expressway ensured it dropped.

I used cruise control on the expressway and I must say it makes driving even easier. However, the risk is that in case of an emergency, my reaction time will be a lot more than if my foot was on the A pedal.

From Pune, I had to drive nonstop to Surat on Monday itself.

Worked in Surat for a day and on Wednesday drove back to Bombay. At the moment, I am staying in Bombay and I shall be driving back on Saturday most likely.

The return journey from Surat to Bombay was much slower as my car was a mobile office. MY colleague had his laptop open and we were discussing work! Dont worry, I wasnt distracted enough to cause any accidents. Traffic too was mild and we reached Bombay with more than enough time in hand for him to catch his flight.

Some random pictures of my absolutely filthy car! I dont trust any car wash place in Bombay and I shall wait to reach Bangalore and get the car double washed by the friendly guys at Feynlab!

I would like to draw attention to the water beading on a dirty car! It's incredible to see this kind of water beading on a car that has run 2500+ kms since it's last wash(These pics were taken at a petrol pump somewhere between Surat and Bombay on my return journey).

15.4kmpl from Mumbai to Pune, up across the ghat???
I have never managed this in my humble 1.8 TSi...and Mumbai Pune Mumbai is my home ground...

Is 2.0 TSi more efficient than 1.8 TSi at triple digit speeds?

Exactly what I was thinking! I could never manage anything more than 12.00 Kpl over any long journey in my 1.8 TSI over the entire ownership period. Is it the DSG? Or CC? wider torque spread from lower RPMs? Either way those are amazing figures for 230 hp 2.0!! Gotta love these TSIs

Agree, I have also never managed more than 13 on say a mixed speed drive like BLR Madurai Munnar BLR.

I would have thought the extra gear in the 7 speed / 1.8 combo would equalize the extra HP and torque in the vRS but obviously not.

I switched off the auto triggers which made for a quieter drive but yes, it is very disconcerting to keep looking out for 2 wheelers and buses. In two minds to activate it but will check for a few more days.

Hahahaha! Yeah, it does seem pretty incredible.

I'm driving back to Pune tomorrow. I will have an Abarth(fellow TBHPian blackwasp) for company, so I am not sure if I can go on an eco-drive!

I think it depends on how much accelerate, brake cycles happen, and what rpms the engine runs at. On my MT Superb, in runin period (read restrained driving) at triple digits on Highway, I saw MFD show 13.5-14 kmpl. Nowhere close to 15.4 though of the vrs which is mighty impressive!
