Re: Driven: Lexus NX 300h

Solid report! I have owned one for about an year now, with 20,000 kms on the odo. It shares the stable with a Countryman JWC and those two could not be more different! Yes, the mini is marginally quicker, but what the Lexus is better at, hands-down, is the magic carpet behavior on the road. The design may seem quirky, but hey, I owned a Nissan Juke when in college!

In Jakarta, all the major malls, almost, have a Lexus-exclusive Valet and so does the airport, which makes you feel pampered. The 24x7 road-side assistance works with insane efficiency, too! All in all, very happy with what I drive!

Re: Driven: Lexus NX 300h

Guys! Couple of questions regarding the NX.

1. Globally, when was this model launched and when is a replacement due. My colleague likes this car but there are no discounts whatsover. He wants to be sure that the car will atleast be new for the next 3-4 years.

2. The Hybrid battery's life? Will it need to be replaced in a few years because it will cost a bomb.

Thanks

The battery is meant to be for a life time.

THe SA told him that it generally lasts 5 years after which will cost 3 lacs.

All hybrid Lexus' carry batteries of the same type only size differs. My Es300h has lifetime batteries and so does the NX.I am more than reasonably sure of this.

Re: Driven: Lexus NX 300h

When was this model launched globally and when is the replacement due. We are also considering this over the BMW X1 mainly because of the novelty value and Toyota (low maintainence) badge.

How would this be in comparison to the new X3. Thanks

Have you actually driven this? I found the drive very bad. Maintenance will definitely be low, maybe SA meant about the warranty on batteries as 5 Years. I won’t give importance to Novelty factor but that’s my personal take. In any case after a while it will be all same.

If I am not mistaken, Lexus launched the refreshed variant here last year so the new one is away.

My suggestion will be to take long test rides on both, roads that you drive regularly and try not to focus much on the features or SA talks, just try to find out which one suits your driving style and is more comfortable. You can’t go wrong with either.

Grea advise! I am seeing youtube videos starting 2013 which feature the same NX (largely). I beleive it got a mid life facelift in 2016. I drove the car and found it ok. It is not a drivers car for sure, but it was still very smooth and responsive. What I loved was the feel and driving position. I just felt good sitting inside and moving around.

What concerns me is that even globally it is not the obvious opponent to cars like the X3 and GLC. Makes me wonder if Lexus ever caught up to the leagues of the holy trinity.

I am trying out the X3 today, will revert back with findings

I would also suggest you to try out the XC60. It comes equipped with class leading features, has good power figures and is very comfortable to be in. It certainly has an edge over the others in my opinion.

Did you finalise between the two? At 70L on-road Mumbai, it is definitely very expensive. Just wanted to know your thoughts as I'm also considering one for my parents in Mumbai, but find it too pricey.

Only things going in the favour are reliability & hybrid.

Thanks

Nobody seems to be recommending it. So I am wary of putting my money on it. I think the X3 is a clear winner in the segment. All the best for your purchase.

Images of the second-generation Lexus NX have leaked online, previews design overhaul and new interior ahead of an expected official global unveiling sometime in the next few months.
