Regular maintenance done so far, with 2 factory mandated updates to the wiper motor & exhaust ends.

The only exception being a small hiccup which I encountered with the 4x4 ECU. It took them a couple of weeks to pin-point it to the ECU, as it caused the TOD system to misbehave while reversing/fwd turns at crawl speeds.

I don't think you are missing out anything since they are useless. The only useful yet useless app is the Navi Maps but it is much much worse than the Google Maps. You have to download the maps and keep it in your phone and they do not provide accurate traffic info. They just occupy space in your phone and are not of much use.

That's great, will check for any updates during 1st service.

Did you need to escalate or was it resolved at dealership level? Asking as earlier escalation was the only way to get a solution to such problems.

I just want the remote app to work as there is no physical remote with the ICE.

Escalated, as it was taking a long time for them to diagnose the problem. Since the TOD hardware was also a suspect, the initial week was spent in making adjustments to the hardware, under assistance from Pune HQ - per TASS.
A brand new TOD and ECU were later sent over, however the problem was resolved by using only the ECU.

The Tata Smart Remote is not a great experience either. It is also dependent on the ConnectNext making a proper connection to the ICE. If that connection is failing, then the remote will not work either.

When it does work, its inconsistent.

Just curious, will you be a passenger in this car and therefore interested in the remote?

Re: Second innings with Tata’s finest - Hexa XTA in Tungsten Silver

Congrats on the Hexa A.G. Wishing you many happy miles with her in the forecoming years. You own two of the most acclaimed SUVs in India now.

I think I found another minor change in the Hexa. I will leave it to the members to judge whether this qualifies as cost cutting, but if you compare the engine cover on offer in the December 2018 Hexa purchased by A.G and the one tested for the official review, the engine covers seem to be different between the two.

Here it is in A.G's car:

And here it is in the earlier Hexas:

The engine cover has lost the grey treatment clearly. Wonder why? Or is it the photo itself though I highly doubt it.

Regards,
Vishy

Myself as a passenger on rare occasions, interested in this app for use by other family members.

Thanks Vishy. It is surprising that these 2 acclaimed SUVs never got the sales numbers they deserved.

Great review AG. All points very well covered. I'm also the proud owner of XTA tungsten silver.
A query..Does the rear ac vent work on heater? i.e. if main ac temp is 27-28, the rear vent does not throw warm air. Anyone noticed this?

Never tried with the heater yet, will check and report. Ideally it should as the temperature is controlled from the front only.

First Inspection Report

The first inspection of 2500 Kms or 3 Months was carried out in April 2019. There was an initial hick-up when the dealer didn't give appointment and later informed that the grace period of 7 days has elapsed and that the inspection would be paid. Tata Motors was prompt in resolving the issue and getting the inspection carried out using the coupon itself. During the inspection, the auto-folding mirrors were enabled to fold when vehicle is locked and unfold when the key is rotated to ACC.

First Service Report

The first service of 10000 Kms or 6 Months was carried out in June 2019. Again this was sort of an inspection as no oil change was involved. The same could have been better performed as it was surprising to note that the check points mentioned in the owners manual like scanning with scan tool, greasing propeller shaft, etc. were not known to dealer as part of their service process. This came to light when they were going to charge for lubrication of door latches which is clearly mentioned as one of the things to do in the service schedule and the same is covered by AMC. Overall, Tata Motors was quick in resolving the matter and getting the inspection done in the manner as listed in the manual.

Hi AG

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Couple of questions:
1. Is HEXA XTA fine at high speeds without the safety electronics?
2. Have you tried any bit of rough stuff? Can automatic manage it?

Thanks

With sedate driving, haven't had an opportunity where I missed the ESP. Surely, it would have heightened the sense of safety.

With the on-going road development, there have been some opportunities. The best way to avoid wheel spin is enter Manual mode and select 2nd gear. That way there is no wheel spin in slush even from standstill.

Hello A.G

It’s been a while since your update. How did your 1st year service go?

Re: Second innings with Tata’s finest - Hexa XTA in Tungsten Silver

The 1st year second service was completed in January 2020 with minor issues related to some sounds & vibrations from side steps addressed. 2 days back, even the third service was completed which was just an inspection and not an oil change service. Both the times, the experience with Doon Tata Dehradun was fuss free and they attended all the minor issues reported over call to them since I could not go in person.

Sharing a couple of pics from service center and some random pics
