I ordered the rear brake pads from boodmo but they have not delivered it to me for a month now and all that I get from them is revised delivery dates. I have asked for a fixed delivery date or a refund now. Can you recommend another vendor who can deliver faster with the precise part

A standard service at BMW should be around INR 30k, as long as your are firm and remove the unnecessary add-ons. You can perhaps get in touch with N1 racing or KS Motorsports for the brake pads, they should be able to help you out.

In other news, I finally got down to doing some much requested timing runs on the 530D using my trust old G-tech pro. The results were quite good and on par with what I was expecting. Overall the car is around 1 to 1.5s faster in both the 0-100Kmph and 1/4 mile drag compared to a stock 530D. It is also a second faster in both 0-100 and the 1/4 mile run when compared to my civic. Details below:

0-60mph just under 5s. 0-100Kph at 5.2s

I did not do any left-foot braking before launching, as it just feels wrong somehow. Just normally launched the car, built the revs up slightly while heel and toeing. No weight reduction or anything on the car. The runs were done on a cordoned off stretch near BIC, Greater Noida.

Despite all this, the car is still fairly efficient. Below is the efficiency of my last 2500km, all in NCR.

Wow, those are very nice figures indeed. Wonder how you managed to do this without launch control!

Are you monitoring EGTs on your car? Would like to know what sort of peak numbers are you getting for that.

I short-shifted in gears 1,2 so that I can ride the torque wave and shifted around 4500RPM in the other gears. Also, I just did one run, and did not do any further runs, as I was quite happy with results. Being a little gentle with the throttle modulation in 1st gear helps with the launch being clean.

I must admit I have not been monitoring anything on the car, even the Carly adapter is lying at home and not connected. The quantum map just feels so OEM-like that I don't feel the need to monitor anything. Plus my biggest crib right now is getting the car warmed up quickly enough in these cold winters during my office commute, so that I can get the heat running in the cabin, hence I doubt EGT will be an issue.

Haha, even in Bangalore with its warmer weather it takes a good 15 mins or so for the engine to warm up to acceptable levels. I am running a Pete's map on my 320d and I once saw the EGTs climb up to 650C (post turbo) after about 12-13 seconds of full throttle high RPM load, and I could see the car just about starting to cut boost and fueling to reduce EGTs. Not that this level of temp is unsafe or anything - my turbo is officially rated for 900C inlet temperature, which is around 700-750C post turbine.

So if you do manage to log EGTs during a sustained high load >10-15s, please update this thread. Would be good to compare.

Updates

The 530d has covered almost 10,000Km under my ownership with the odometer at 62,000Km. The last 1 month saw trips to Amritsar and work trips to Jaipur and Chandigarh which added to the running. Given the strict speed limit enforcement on GT road, I was at 90Kmph most of the time resulting in some great mileage and range.

Nearing Chandigarh, having covered over 200km, and the distance to empty shows 1300+km - indicating a possible range of over 1500km!

Return leg from the Chandigarh trip, entering Delhi with a range of 1000+km for 3/4th tank!

Given the off-season rains that we have been having up north, the car was quite dirty by the end of it, and I used a pressure washer to get it all clean, a change from my usual Proklear waterless wash routine.

This car is built for the open road . Quite nothing like cruising on an empty highway in 8th gear, marveling at the sheer engineering....and then engaging manual mode on the twisties . Your 530d sure doesn't look like its almost a decade old - these Germans age so damn well. You should get your roof blackened. White / Silver F10s turn my head like no other. I was planning to get my car's colour changed to silver at the 8 - 10 year mark, but I'm finally making peace with the dark blue.

re: My pre-owned BMW 530d (F10) Edit: Sold!

What could be possible issues in a 75k driven 2011 530d? I'm thinking of picking one up myself, I believe I have fairly good knowledge about the cars. There are good FNG's too. Any pointers on what to check for in the car are much appreciated.

Not sure about the black roof, I've got a 3M gloss black roof wrap on the figo(silver car) and it looks good, just not sure how it would look on an executive sedan, which this F10 is. It might need sportier alloys to go with it, and not the 535i alloys that I have currently.

Like mentioned in various posts across the forums only buy the car if it has full, verifiable BMW service history as per schedule. Also get the car sent to BMW for a full paid inspection. Be prepared to do a full EGR, manifold cleaning and a gearbox service, these are critical to ensure the car continues to perform as per potential. Be aware of the upcoming brake pad/rotor, tyre replacements and these can get expensive. Also, remove and inspect each alloy for bends and cracks. Rest is the usual, check for rattles, creaks, suspension noise etc. The car should be silent and ride well over rough surfaces, and you should not have any play in the steering whatsoever. Good luck! Please use only BMW-LL04 rated oil as long as you have your DPF in the car(in case you plan on getting the car serviced outside).

re: My pre-owned BMW 530d (F10) Edit: Sold!

Hi Guys,

I was also in the hunt for a 530D for the last 6 months and finally saw one in a dealership here (2012 BMW530D MSPORT) run just above 1 lakh. But then it's been maintained very well and has all the service history from the dealership. Its a Single owner car belonging to a Big shot celebrity here.

The only thing which is stopping me to go for it is becoz it has been driven 1 lakh but then it feels like a brand new car as it has been maintained very well, was impressed after taking a test drive too. The power delivery was mind blogging. and it doesn't feel like a 1 lakh driven car.

The owner being a Movie star has been driving this on highway 80 per cent of his usage
(the reason for the high mileage)

Would like your opinions on this one and whether to check anything in particular.

As I've often said before, I don't mind owning my own car past 100,000 km (my Jeep is past 200,000 km), but there is no way I'm buying someone else's 100,000 km car. 1 lakh km in India is too high when you don't know the history and how its been driven. Plus, in a complex car like this, even with top-notch reliability, there will be many wear & tear parts on the way out.

Avoid.

These cars age very well. Many of my passengers are surprised to know they're riding in a 7-year old car.

Updates!

Since my last post in March, the 530d has run around 4000km, slightly lower than usual running due to COVID.

The car recently crossed the 65k Km mark.

In September 2020, I received a "charge battery" message on shutting the car, and this persisted even after a fairly long trip, hence I decided to change the battery. The previous owner had put in a lead-acid battery and this lasted only 3.5 years. Given that these cars come with AGM batteries from the factory which last 6-7 years, I sourced a VARTA AGM battery from Bieco for around INR 25k, as it seemed worth the premium. Installed and coded it in myself with the Carly adapter and app.

I changed the oil and filters in November as more than a year had passed, and the car had run around 8000km on the old oil. Since I have no DPF I can use a high saps/BMW LL-01 oil and chose to try Total quartz 9000. So far so good, the oil seems great. Used original BMW oil and air filters.

Coming to the biggest update. I managed to find a set of fairly priced LCI m-sport f10 alloys. These are by far one of my most favourite alloy wheel designs. I wasted no time in going and picking them up, and promptly handed them over to Akshay at GT Tunerz to paint anthracite grey as the original silver colour is far too common.

Original wheel:

Akshay and his boys did a fabulous job as can be seen in the final results below.

The rest of the post is just pictures of the car and it's new wheels.

I personally feel these wheels have transformed the way the car looks and makes it look so much younger/newer. It is an added bonus that they weigh 1kg lesser at each end compared to my older alloys(11.4kg vs 12.4kg). Time for repeating the performance runs then!

Thank you. You have summed up car maintenance 101 very nicely.

Thank you. I was not too keen to replace the 535i 18 inchers, but after seeing your car and staring/gawking at a few other LCI m-sport's with these alloys, I made up my mind to get these whenever the time comes. Had to pass on a few sets earlier because they were simply priced too high for my liking. I wanted a slightly darker colour, without going full black, and this colour seems to have worked out extremely well.

That looks amazing!

Could you tell me about the relation between the DPF and the engine oil.
