Dislikes;

- No Manual Transmission Yet
- Rear Seat Space was disappointing
- Indian pricing needs at-least a 12-15% downward correction

^ The car was in this tremendous spec of Agate Grey Metallic + Satin Aurum Wheels combo :thumbs up

It was my dream to breach the 300km/h speed barrier & thanks to the German Autobahns was able to fulfill this. Few moments are life changing & this was one of them;

^ What a feeling !!!

Other Key Points & Observations;

- The variant of 911 i was driving is the all new 992 Gen. Porsche 911 Carrera S.
- The 911 had a good view out & a nice overall visibility which is much confidence inspiring when driving hard.
- Strangely the car is not that easy to drive at slow speeds, particularly difficult to place in small city streets, overtaking larger vehicles in road construction temporary lanes on highways partly due to the increased wide body width of this gen 911.
- It was good to see Porsche retain an analogue Revv Counter right in the line of vision.
- Don't know why there is no HUD on offer on such a driver focussed car, was a big miss.
- The rear camera is not that good.
- The Porsche Communication Management's 10.9 inch touch screen was of just the right size & flawless in its operation.
- Short tout gear lever is a good experiment, but im not a fan.
- Cabin Quality is good for the sports car it is, but with the way it is priced in India its not special enough.
- Bose sound system was good.
- The 3L Turbo Flat 6 makes about 450 HP & 530 NM, which are not fancy figures but ENOUGH to keep you entertained & propel the car forward gear after gear. In-fact was very confidence inspiring to go full throttle and the car was putting down the power very well.
- Redlines at about 7500 rpm which is good for a turbo petrol.
- The Engine sounds sensational when going all out.
- The PDK was a real strength when going all out no doubt but did feel jerky at low speeds.
- Paddle Shifters felt good, but needed to be slightly larger.
- The steering feels great all the time with ideal communicative feedback providing good grip & stability during high speed cornering.
- Not sure whether my car had 4 wheel steering or not.
- I personally did not like the way the pop out door handles were implemented, not a fan of those & found them complicating.
- Brakes were excellent & so was the pedal feel.
- My car did not have the nose lift feature, considering how low the 911 is, it would be an obvious necessity for prospective buyers here in India.
- I crossed 300 km/h at-least on 5 occasions & the best top speed i could achieve was 315 km/h in the 6th gear & not 7th or 8th.
- Do note that the variant of 911 (Carrera S) i was driving was a RWD.
- I drove the 911 for about 410 kms. From Berlin to Leipzig & back to Berlin.
- On full tank it has great fuel range of aprox 750 kms. Probably my car was equipped with the new optional 90 L Fuel Tank (that's huge).
- The 911 was running on Super 98 Octane fuel.

P.S. - The speeds done were on Unrestricted sections of the German Autobahns, with prior experience of driving in Germany on such sections in various other cars in Germany over many years :thumbs up

You've hit it out of the park with this one mate. ;)

The 992 Carerra S has 4 wheel drive along with 4 wheel steering options. Your car must have had that too and guess that's why you felt comfortable at high speeds.

I feel the prices in India need to come down by a lot more than 15%. It costs just a little more than a crore in the UK and a whopping 2.5 crores here. Porsche have come up with a lower priced version of the 992 overseas where the power has been lowered to 380 Bhp as against 444 Bhp for the S.

Btw, top speed in a lot of cars isn't achieved in the highest gears as they are overdriven ones.

Drive safe :)

Edit: Just noted the car you drove was a RWD.

In India the regular Carrera (380 hp variant) starts from about INR 1.6 Cr. Ex showroom & the Carrera S is aprox INR 1.8x Cr. Ex-Showroom.

Good News, Porsche just announced a 7 speed Manual for this 992 Gen 911 :thumbs up

Strangely enough, Porsche has priced the 7 speed manual the same as the 8 speed PDK!

And are justifying this saying they will be giving the Sports chrono pack as standard for the manual whereas for the auto it will be an option.

Great review of a great car.
I don't think of anything which comes closer to a Porsche in terms of handling and cornering.

Some pictures clicked while driving the 911 Carrera S around Berlin & Leipzig;

THAT IS BONKERS ! I DIDN'T EVEN TAKE THE AVENTADOR S I HAD WITH ME to that level.

Kudos to you dude. You have the audacity. Max I did with Aventador was 241 KMH but that's also because I didn't have a straight long enough.

Question to you, I've driven the Carrera 911 2018 Model (Not the S):

1. Were you dissatisfied with the number of looks you got.

2. Did you think the sound was not as exhilarating .

3. What do you have to say about steering in high speed corners.

4. What did you think about suspension in comfort and race mode. I see you went over a cobblestone road. This is a very torturous affair in the old Lambos and 911s.DUD DUD DUD DUD DUD DUD.

I was fairly disappointed with the lack of looks. Of course if you use a Lambo as a benchmark it isn't a fair comparison, but I've maintained if you spend fairly big money for a car, the feeling of driving it should stroke your ego.

Having said that, I absolutely loved the 911 way more than the Lambos. Visibility is much better, the seating position is more ideal, and the steering feeling at high speeds inspires a lot of confidence. The AC in a 911 is surreal, probably the best I've ever experienced.

The feeling of pushing up to downshift and pulling down to upshift was sexy. Made me feel like a proper F1 driver . Loved the car for this. There's just nothing like pushing up twice to a lower gear sliding out of your lane and overtaking half the surrounding ocean of cars around and just buzzing off like a madman. Hahaha.

One thing I'll say is I felt that if budget isn't a constraint, the only 911 to get is the GT series. The downshift sound is orgasmic at high revs and the sporty wing and race accessories make it the perfect bank robbery getaway car. The other 911s are nice, but if you're into adrenaline there's only one series that puts a proper smile on your face.

Thanks for the appreciation D33.
I too went through your thread on the Aventador S, thank you for being so honest & real in sharing your experience there :thumbs up

1. In Germany as you'd be aware the 911 is fairly common, but did get good respect out on the Autobahns.

2. With the active exhaust in Sport Mode it was a satisfying Flat 6 sound.

3. EXCELLENT, Not sure weather my car had 4 wheel steering or not but it always felt confidence inspiring, in fact out of the multiple times i crossed 300 km/h, the the 1st time i wasn't even in Sport mode.

4. This is where i was a bit disappointed, had heard good things about the 911 being Comfortable etc but even on German roads it was just OK, God knows how it will feel on Indian/Mumbai roads.

Yes a 911 will definitely be more liveable :thumbs up
