Re: BMW 530i Review (G30) : 2 years & 30,000 km

@np23, I tried to use park assist feature in my 530i, when it finds parking, a P symbol appears on screen, but it does not do anything when clicked, am I missing something or park assist does not work in India?

I saw multiple videos both Indian & International & follow those steps, press park assist button from central console, roll the vehicle slowly to find parking spot, when it finds parking sport, a P with parallel or perpendicular box appears, ideally, I should click the P and car should assist in auto park, but it does nothing when I do so.

Let me know if I am missing something.

Thanks

I have not noticed but if car is in D, how can I keep my foot off? I believe my foot is on break not on accelerator when pressing P on screen, however I will confirm today again.

Thanks for the help, I will update once I check.

Update:- It was turn indicator, I was suppose to give turn indicator to engage park assist.

@Mods - I am unable to edit my last post, please merge this post with last if possible.

Re: BMW 530i Review (G30) : 2 years & 30,000 km

Just finished a roughly 800km 2 day road trip with my Rottweiler, so thought of sharing some updates:-

Route Taken :-
Day 1 , left around 12:30pm

Delhi-Ambala- Derabassi
Derabssi (Old Ramgarh route) straight to Chandimandir road,
Chandimandir/ Himalaya Expressway to Dharampur
Dharampur To Gadkhal to Kasauli

reached around 7:30pm with two breaks.

Day 2,

Left at 10:30am
Kasauli to Dharampur
Dharampur to Shimla
Reached Shimla around 1:30pm

Left around 3:30pm
Shimla to Dharampur
Dharampur to Kasauli
Reached around 6pm

Day 3

Left around 12pm
Kasauli to Dharampur
Dharmapur to Nada Sahib (Exit),
Straight on the Chandigarh Dehradun express way till the Saha/ Shahbad exit
Straight onto Markande/Shahbad to meet the Ambala Delhi National Highway
Reached Delhi around 6pm, one hour of traffic upon entering Delhi

The Car performed beautifully, with the lovely chasis really coming into its own on the hills.
Having grown up on the Delhi Chandigarh highway literally, finally for the first time in 3 decades, it feels that the entire stretch is almost complete , except for 2 odd kilometres near Sonipat.
The tarmac seems to have been relaid and felt on par with newer expressways.
The car averaged around 13-15kmpl depending on uphill or regular plain highways.

The Dog held up brilliantly as well, and enjoyed the trip it seems, was quite allot of travel for him as well.

Advice:- For all friends going towards Shimla from Delhi, we usually always go up to Zirakpur and turn right, a suggestion which I took this time and saves at least an hour, is to turn from Shahbad towards the Dehradun Chandigarh expressway, and you end up avoiding the entire Ambala, Derabssi, Zeerakpur belt.

I will let the pictures do the talking, open for all questions

  2. followed by shots of the G30 (something about a naturally rusty Bimmer with the Himalayan background),
  3. My Boy,
  4. Bumping into an old friend whilst he was he was driving up for a dhaba chai , and lastly,

Re: BMW 530i Review (G30) : 2 years & 30,000 km

Quick question, for the G30 experts, after a recent trip to the hills, the car was asking for a rear brake pad change in 500km, so decided to send in for the replacement, they initially advised brake fluid change also which was due soon, which I consented to, and the estimate given was about Rs35,000 however when they removed the brake pads they called to say that the rear discs also need to be replaced, they measured and it was at 18 instead of the minimum 18.4mm as allowed by BMW, the car has done 60,0000km, as per the advisor most G30's n need this around 40,000km and because of my relatively easy driving its lasted this long, both discs cost about 20000 each so the total was about Rs75,000 eventually, could you confirm the same, and is a rear disc change for a heavy Bimmer at 60,000km (4.5 years) fine?

Minimum thickness is mentioned on rotor/disc itself. You can always check.

From experience, rotor/disc are changed during 2nd brake pad replacement.

So looks correct if this is your 1st rear rotor/disc change in 60,000 kms.

Thank you, yes indeed seems correct, looking forward to the 75000 mark soon.
Also, very good to see the parts being manufactured in Europe still, the discs are made in Germany whereas the pads and brake system are made in Italy, though imported from Munich only.

Hope she keeps performing as she has, when do you recommend the voluntary ZF transmission oil change?

Thanks

Though BMW says its filled for life,

But ZF recommends to change ZF8 transmission oil at 1,00,000 Kms or 8 Years, whichever is earlier.

ZF Reference Link.

Re: BMW 530i Review (G30) : 2 years & 30,000 km

Dear Bhpians,

Its been a while and a lot of developments so I thought its a great time to update you all, the car is 6 years old now and completed 80,000km , of which mostly was peak city driving.

I believe that inspite of almost 2 years of lockdowns, the fact that I have still done 80,000km without much highway driving is a testament to how good the chassis and Engine/Gearbox is and that is when I went from a F10 530d to this G30 530i, I am sad to see with the G68, they have again made it floaty like the F10, having owned the E90 (Eerily similar to the E60), I was so glad to see how they perfected the G30 chassis for India, it feels like a proper BMW to drive and still acceptably comfortable, and it showed in the numbers, enthusiasts were back in the showrooms.

However again, the with G68, and its softer chassis, and removal of creature comfort's likes unblinds, reclinable seats, M sport kits etc (I honestly don't know what they are targeting) and it is surprising that already, in a city like Delhi I have seen the V214 E class much more than the G68 which was launched months in advance.
Coming to my vehicle it still runs like on day 1, except for some minor wear and tear, in fact the only thing which bothers me is a quintessential BMW rubber/plastic melting issue on the right door armrest plastic melting which makes it sticky, apart from that everything feels factory fresh.
The car still looks new, and yes I still turn back and look at it.

As they say, the best journeys are those not planned for, and that happened in September, an in prompt plan to go the Pandupole Temple inside the Sariksa Tiger Reserve propped up and we were on our way, on reaching the forest gates,we came to know that the Safari Gypsys were all taken, and the other zones of the park being shut for the Monsoons, there were fewer Gypsys available. We were told that Private cars are allowed on Tuesday and Saturdays for the temple, but I am sure even the designers in Munich never thought the G30 was meant for this, that too when even the dirt tracks were in a horrible shape due to monsoons and full of slush, water and what not, I am glad I didn't think much and signed on the documents, and in we were, having the forest to yourself was surreal, and the animals welcomed us and how, almost as if it was meant to be, crossing through makeshift rivers, dirt tracks, rocky aravlis in this was surreal without a Single scrape and only once or twice did the Traction system kicked in, when the tracks were really slushy and wet and needed a bit of asistance, and is also a testament to how far these cars have come, and also what the mind and machine can achieve if they want. We saw most mammals from the whole Tiger to the more common Deers, in this 5 hour adventure.

For those who dont know, I drove around 30 kilometres (60 return) inside the forest on monsoon battered slush tracks, and it was almost as much at home as it was on after connecting onto the incredible Mumbai Delhi expressway.

Will be posting some pictures shortly.

To all the Senior Members out there, theres some special news round the corner with delivery next year from the same manufacturer
