Also another strange thing is that as the winters were retreating in Delhi and we didn’t need to use the AC, the cabin would at times get uncomfortably warm and stuffy requiring us to switch on the AC. This wasn’t the case with any other cars being used at the same time

What could be the issue?
The XL6's AC performance, in my 13 months long experience spanning almost every season, can be termed as adequate at best. The cabin volume is relatively very big and the glass area is bigger than some much larger cars. That coupled with black interiors means that the car takes its own sweet time to cool down unless you run both the air-conditioners (front and back) at full blast (and ours is a white car). I am comparing it to the other car in the family (Honda City) whose air conditioner cools down the cabin much faster (yes I know it's not exactly a fair comparison considering the the City's cabin volume is almost half that of the XL6 but they are in the same segment price wise so it is not totally wrong).

I have not experienced the stuffiness without AC you are talking about so I will be unable to help with that.

Re: My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review

Hi,

This may seem like a dumb question but I couldn't think of anywhere to post this.

About to head out of the city for a month tomorrow morning, car would sit idle mostly while I'm away, so decided to take the car out for a spin tonight. After I returned from a short 15-20minute drive, while I was parking, and had turned the ignition off - I happened to notice the indicator and saw these symbols half of which I didn't. None of them were blinking/flashing, but these were lit - do I need to get my car serviced? Is this normal (I don't remember if I've noticed them before)? Is there something that is very urgent/concerning? Also would be great if someone could translate the symbols 🥺🙈. Thank you so much

It's very strange that you ask about the warning lights that come in accessories mode (or in ON position for older physical key based cars), because these warning lights come in every car from a M800 to a Mercedes (the number of warning lights might depend on the car). One question from my side, haven't you ever noticed these kind of warning lights in whatever car you have driven till now?

There's no need to worry about these lights, you only need to worry if the lights don't stop glowing after you have started the engine. As for what they mean, I would suggest you to go through your car's user manual (or any car's user manual for that matter).

Username checks out!
Out of curiosity, how much have you driven your XL6 until now? Surprised you didn't notice them before this!

Looks professionally painted. Since you had the HSRP plates on your car, how easy was it to remove it and re-install the plates, given the rivets that are fixed and broken to prevent theft.

I had requested the dealership not to apply rivets on plates during delivery. Had my own reasons for that. Hence there was absolutely no trouble in removing and reinstalling the plates. Even with rivets, they drill the rivet out, remove the plates, and refix with rivets.

Regarding paint job, yes it's a very carefully done paintjob, where the only thing used at MASS was their paint booth. Rest paint, filter, all consumables including paint gun was provided by me.

Stay tuned for a detailed report on the denting job, it will be epic.

Shashi

Re: My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review

Got Tyvek cover from NEXA: I have to park under a tree whenever I'm at Patna, and the car gets lots of tree sap and bird droppings. To avoid that, I was looking for a decently priced cover. No TPH love for the XL6, the next best option was Tyvek. There is another simple cover for ~Rs. 2000 available for the XL6.
I spoke to regional accessories manager about availability, and he confirmed that supply is limited due to some issue at vendor. He however informed me that the part is lying at NEXA Purnea, Bihar. I paid them the amount and they shipped the part the same day.

Comes in a neat bag:

Part number of Tyvek covers for other NEXA models:

Part Number and price(updated price is Rs. 3390):

Fits nicely in the underboot storage:

There was some talk on poor return action of steerings in some Maruti cars. Shot this video the other day to clear doubts of people who look up to this thread for their XL6/Ertiga purchase decisions:

In some other news, finally managed to fix the minor paint defects. I was driving all these days with boot full of round circles and it was embarrassing. A glimpse of the final finish:

A very well made video. Last month I was driving my brother's S-Cross and it has such a smooth return after turns that I was amazed. My Brezza never had it. Ordered the steering column to my trusted MASS and got it replaced last week under extended warranty. Now the return is much improved although not as good as the S-Cross.

another observation - looks like straight ahead to one side lock is (1 + 1/2 + 1/8) = 13/8 = 1.625 turns.
That means full lock to lock of steering is 3.25 turns. Isn't this a bit too high ? Usually commuter cars have it in the range of 3 or slightly less than 3.

The lesser the number, the "sharper" the steering feels - for example the polo has slightly less than 3, the punto/linea have it at 2.65, sports and track cars have it somewhere like 2.1/2.2 etc.

Wonder what it is for sister cars from the maruti stable like brezza/scross ?

LUVing the practicality of XL6: Had to carry some weird stuff in the last two days, and the XL6 didn't disappoint.

That's Alto's Hood, and some spares for a friend's car:

A 10ft long bamboo stick, the aisle between the captain seats helped:

When it was time to haul some freshly painted panels safely, the XL6 was preferred over the Omni due to better ride:

At the same time, I wasn't ready for those insanely bright setups by LED strips, needed something more "OEM" looking. Well, in MGA, there are some options. Celerio got footwell lamp option as MGA in Orange color, while old WagonR got it in dark blue. Opted for more subtle Celerio's setup.
Thank you Shashi for sending me the part for my Ignis.

Re: My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review

Last month was pretty bad for us, our entire family was down due to COVID. Running remained pretty low, with most of the runs limited to hospitals and test labs. The extra rows of seating helped a bit. Dad was the first to get infected, and he was not very enthusiastic about going to hospital with me. But he had no other option and he agreed to come while being seated in the third row. Not that it helped in any way, and I eventually caught the infection a few days later, but it was great for his mental satisfaction.

Social distancing inside car

The XL6 had become horribly dusty in all these days of neglect. Got it washed at a friend's detailing center, as I didn't have energy to setup the power washer at home. Used my own shampoo, wash mitt, microfiber etc.

Also opted to cover the car since it won't be used for a week or so, and used the recently procured Tyvek for the first time. Cover is made by Polco, and is great except two things which I didn't like. First, it's a bit too short at the front. Secondly, it doesn't get a separate pocket for antenna.

Inspired by you, got footwell lamps for our Ecosport. Went with the blue colour (WagonR part) as Ecosport's back lighting is blue. Here's the link to how I went about the installation: diy (DIY: Adding footwell lamps in my Maruti XL6)
