Total cost was ₹23K. Front pads are okay for ~15K km more and discs in good shape too. Excellent service, in and out in 2 hours flat. Parked next to a magnificent Aston Martin Lagonda as well.
What's with the 330i and rear brake pads? A friend of mine who owns a 330i got the rear brake pads change notification. He's about 10k on the Odo.

he's a spirited driver and hates the phrase "drive slowly"

meanwhile my F34 threw up a "front brake pad" change notification at about 23k on the odo.

No surprise, the first rear pad set on my car wore out in 8k. Rear brake pads on the 330i wear out quickly because of DSC/TC especially if the roads are windy or there are a lot of uphill/downhill runs. I have now started switching off the first level of TC during uphill/downhill runs - just pressing the traction off once, not completely switching off DSC.

At 25k, I am on the third set already - the front pads just got changed for the first time.

Ah this makes perfect sense. when he mentioned about brake pad change notification on his car.. i casually said oh yeah even mine's come up for changing the front and he giggled and said.. it's the rear one's on mine.

Nevertheless both of us went ahead with what was required.

Congratulations, looks like a Q* from Audi. Perhaps shoot for a 3 pointed star in the near future ? Complete the stable with all the 3 German stars!

Whoa! Seems like you’re staying the VAG family too. Super nice combo; the Q3 is quite complimentary car to your Bimmer I feel.

Why did you sell the Octy?

Various reasons really. Let me summarize them for the first time:

1. It was in immaculate condition with a new DSG run barely 6K km, since it was replaced FoC by Skoda Service. An excellent USP for any potential buyer.

2. We would have had to give it to a chauffeur, and (in my opinion/experience), the Octavia 1.8TSI/DSG combo is simply too delicate for prolonged use by them. The far more robust 1.8TSI manual and/or the TDI manual would have been a much safer prospect for a chauffeur.

3. We needed a second vehicle with higher GC for our biannual Nilgiris expeditions. While we have never gone really offroad, having 2 Euro sedans both with low GC was proving to be a real limiting factor. Also, factor in that the longer monsoons are here to stay, resulting in appalling road conditions on many of the ghat roads.

4. New Octavia launch and it's sudden discontinuance news was already causing ripples in the Octavia resales.

5. Used market is buoyant in KA at least. Lot of genuine folks looking for pre-worshipped vehicles. As a rule, I absolutely refuse to sell my beloved vehicles to a non-enthusiast.

6. Was approached by multiple TBHP-ians - sold to one ultimately. He will come out of the 'closet' when he wants to .

Two questions I have, have heard from service advisors that this brake pad warning isn't very reliable and sometimes the actual range that the vehicle can be driven is higher. Was there a difference in your case when the actual inspection was done?

Also did the vehicle status show the brake pad condition before the warning came? I currently don't see the brake pad condition in my vehicle status and hence checking

Hi, I'm not the best person to answer this being my first BMW's first brake pad change. I'll let others answer this one. In my case, I (anecdotally) heard that 26K km for the rears is an acceptable distance, and which was confirmed verbally by my Service Advisor. Unfortunately, I did not compare the actual wear on the old pads as I was really rushed for time.

See Dr. AD's experience in his F30 320D: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-...ml#post5390317

My response to the second question is that I got a service alert at ~3K km earlier, i.e. at ~23K km stating that the rear pads will need change at 26K km. Unless you can physically inspect your pads (with a torch or dismounting the wheel itself), I think this is the best warning you will get.

I have booked my G20 and am looking for options in moving from RFT to Tubeless when I get the delivery. Any suggestions on make and sizes. I hear PS4ST are the way to go. Not sure on if the same sizes as available on stock are available though.

Congrats! Sport, M Sport or Gran Limousine? Petrol or diesel?

Either ways, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 (or 5 through grey market) is the way to go.
