re: My 2020 BMW 330i Sport (G20) Review. EDIT: 2 years & 27,000 km up

Bought my first aftermarket accessory off eBay UK for the princely sum of GBP 16: a pair of pedal covers with shipping from Taiwan.

Looks good at the fraction of what I would have paid to BMW. Simple slip-on but fits very tightly so no worries about getting entangled in my footwear etc.

Apologies for the dusty mats!

Hilariously similar alloys between the Volvo S60 (launched today) and the G20 330i M Sport

Thanks to George Mathew for sending this in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

Thank you very much, itwasntme, for the extremely detailed coverage of your 330i...congratulations and wish you many years of wonderful, safe driving! I found myself nodding in agreement to every single experience that you have shared. Here is a brief write-up about my experience with the 330i.

We bought the 330i Sport variant in Jul-2020 from BMW Deutsche Motoren in Bengaluru; it was a great experience, and a very transparent interaction. We have driven the car just over 5000 km in the last six months (about 2:1 highway to city ratio), including a couple of trips to Kerala (via Salem) with family, and predominantly in the 'Comfort' mode. The car has handled superbly so far, and has turned in a fuel economy of 14.2 kmpl overall. (I have attached a combo image of the current dashboard readings, and an exterior view of the car). It takes about Rs. 3000 worth of normal petrol for the roughly 550 km run from Bengaluru to Ernakulam, with two adults, two early teenagers and sufficient luggage for a week-long stay. Seating space is comfortable for the family of four, but adding another adult is very difficult. Similarly, while the boot can accommodate one large suitcase, one carry-on size trolley bag and a couple of laptop backpacks, we have to plan not to exceed these. Other than these constraints (which we knew when we made the purchase), the car is incredibly luxurious. The 330i conveys us past cities and towns with unbelievable power and silence and the driver's seat is an absolute feast for the senses!

Regards,
George

Hi there, Could you help with more details around this product that you ordered? I tried to look it up on Ebay UK and there seem to be a bunch of them (different prices / different for RHD & LHD vehicles etc.) Just want to ensure I place the right order.

Appreciate your help.

Apologies for this broadcast / don't have DM privilege as of yet. Would you mind dropping me a line @ shettydhiraj79@gmail.com.

Mine is a humble 320D G20 Luxury line, which I bought around mid March 2020, just before the pandemic lockdown and the BSIV deadline. Ended up getting a good deal in terms of $$, but was mad angry when got to learn about the 330i Sports being then launched within a week of me having closed the deal. I had no clue or else would have hands-down opted for the 330i Sports with no / minimal discounts OR would have pushed my purchase decision by a bit.

More than the pictures of the car, I do have interesting stories around -

(1) the whole registration / delivery process and the delays therein due to lockdown, with the car being finally delivered in June 2020, and my negotiations with BMW to cover for the EMIs that I was paying (especially the INTEREST component of the EMIs) and the warranty and insurance for a car which was yet to be delivered (for March / April / May)

(2) the car going dead within 7 weeks of delivery and then flat-bedded to the service centre to be with them for 6 weeks - came down to the START / STOP button failure which had to be sourced from Germany; and again my negotiations with BMW during this excruciatingly painful 6 weeks to compensate me for this.

On both occasions, I felt I could walk away satisfied with the way the situations were handled (big shout to @Maverick5490 for being with me through #2 above). Of course, nothing like NOT having to deal with such situations in the first place

Will pen down my experience - need to find the time

re: My 2020 BMW 330i Sport (G20) Review. EDIT: 2 years & 27,000 km up

It's been a week since I have received my 330i Sports. Was pining for blue but white was the only one available. The colour has, since, grown on me and feels it makes the car look more nimble and smaller than others.

I am trying hard not to drive in Sports Plus or rev too high until I cross 2000 kms. It is just daily commute for now. But I still find myself slipping into Sports mode to hear the exhaust note

Learning the ropes on many things. Any idea what this button does? The manual says it is for voice control, but seems to do zilch for me.

A long hold should bring Siri/google assistant up, when connected to carplay. A normal press should bring up the BMW voice assist. At-least that what happens for me

Sweet Ride and Happy mile crunching!!

Belated congratulations but truly, your start of the BMW Experience could have been better. Hopefully, it was a complete one-off and never to be repeated. I hope BMW India will start to stock at least a few of these unique components in-country.

The 320D is also fabulous - quietly remap it to 250/500 as many many others have done, move to wider tyres, and you're good to go.

Congrats! Your white with the Sport bumpers looks very sporty with the black inserts. Consider wrapping your ORVMs or buying the replacement mirror caps off eBay (~5K) or sites like dealkarde.com (~17K) or from BMW Genuine Accessories (~70k!). Will contrast very well.

A key question I had is does your 330i Sport come with iDrive 6 or iDrive 7? The 2021 cars were supposed to have moved to iD7 globally but I'm not sure if the India kits have done so yet.

Correct, (and it works seamlessly each time) BUT it doesn't need CarPlay or AA - it will invoke your smartphone assistant (Siri/Google Assistant/Cortana whatever the case maybe) even on Bluetooth. I know because my Sport variant doesn't have Android Auto or Apple CarPlay

By the way, all G20 owners please feel free to post here - I am not very possessive about this thread!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'd already ordered similar pedal covers like yours. Will look at the ORVM mirror caps.

It is still iDrive 6. The dealer told me that 330i will continue with iDrive 7 while the M Sport gets iDrive 7.

I tried a couple of times, maybe it needs a super long push. If I could get Google Assistant to work, I am good to go. I am used to voice dialing from my older car.

And yes, thanks for letting us pile on your thread I think I mentioned before, your review was the final push that made me get this car, I've been on the edge since November.

Dealer is gassing. All BMW G20s will move to iD7 totally discontinuing iD6. The lower spec cars in EU/USA already moved in mid-2020. The new dials are similar to the current Sport ana-digi dials but add more functionality.

It does need a unusually long push, your phone needs to be connected on BT and set up for the relevant voice assistant.

Glad to hear I made a difference :-).

re: My 2020 BMW 330i Sport (G20) Review. EDIT: 2 years & 27,000 km up

Hi There,

I stumbled upon this thread a few days ago and went through the entire review. An excellent review for an fantastic driving machine. That blue really looks cool and in my opinion BMW's means blue as that really signifies the brand like a few colors do for a particular brand (Ferrari means red, Lamborghini has to be yellow or orange etc etc)

We seem to have something in common, we owned the Cruze together around the same time and now I reckon the history is repeating itself as I too got a Bimmer

Congratulations again and look forward to seeing the updates and more pictures as you go through your ownership.

Cheers!

Hi mobike008, of course I remember our interactions way back when you were the first & prolific Cruze SME. I bought my 2011 Cruze LT based on your TBHP review!

Thank you for your kind words. What Bimmer did you buy? Congratulations anyway!

This i'll get to at a later stage. Don't want to tinker with things this early and with the 4-year extended warranty in place for now.

Agree the Sports bumper with the BLACK inserts looks really cool. Any thoughts on how I could change mine from Chrome to Black (replace / paint / wrap?). I even actually liked the SPORTS alloys better than the Luxury alloys. Honestly, during the buying process, I actually felt the cheaper Sports 320D (which was in their line-up back then) offered a few things better than the Luxury 320 including the black bumper inserts (front and back) and the alloys.

By the way, all G20 owners please feel free to post here - I am not very possessive about this thread![/quote]

Thanks for the kind offer

Moot question: My car is now like 7 months old, 5K ODO, always washed @ car wash (haven't yet allowed the building fellow to touch it). Is it too late for me to consider either a Ceramic coating or PPF? Mine is the Alpine white shade.
