I carry a full-size spare in 5-series boot during out-station trips and leave it in the garage during other times. I am sure there are some heavy packers in your family!
This is what I am doing. Keep the whole thing at home and enjoy the full bootspace.

As a result, a roof box COULD well be an alternative to be used on such occasions.
Personally this sounds like sacrilege
Why put this on your beautiful machine. I'd planned to put the space saver back in (just the tyre, minus the foam support etc.) if I go long distance. But haven't done it yet. At least until I have RFTs I'm planning to keep the space saver at home. At least one advantage to compensate the increased road noise.

My colleague uses a Pentair box like shown in the picture above on his Jetta. He is very happy with it. Gobbles a lot of extra stuff when he travels with family.

Wonder why we don’t have the concept of attaching a small 2 wheel trolley to cars in India? I’ve seen it often in Europe, especially on VWs & BMWs. We do have an suv ( Duster) just for all the long distance trips, but I always end up missing driving my BMW then. Btw, will our RTOs accept a trolley?

Even I am planning to get a roof box as I don't have any luggage space when carrying my astrophotography equipment in the boot.

Was looking at Thule options. Then I saw the Pentair in Asta_la_vista's TFort and Vento. The quality and finish are quite good. Planning to fix his box on my 3GT's roof and see if the XL size is a good fit. I have a feeling XL maybe too big for the 3GT (and for your 330i as well). If so, then I will mostly go for the L.

Doesn’t your 3GT have a sunroof? Are these things attachable in sunroof equipped cars? Also, any risk of getting challaned for putting this? I’m assuming once its on it’ll pretty much stay on 24x7.

Makes a lot of practical sense for the kind of end use you have in mind.

The anchor points are at the frame of the roof and do not load the sunroof. So I guess the sunroof is not an issue. I will have to check the specifications of the 3GT to be sure of how much the roof rack can be loaded though.

The box can be easily removed and fit. So I will mostly remove it when not needed. The rails will remain permanently on the roof.

Nothing much to report on the 330i or the Octavia. However, the garage got some TLC & new lighting

Hi,
Your cars looks wonderful in that golden hue.
I am looking at purchasing a 330i sport myself. Right now BMW is only accepting bookings for blue and white colours with beige interiors.
Except for the beige interiors which I’m not looking forward to, I was wondering if not having CarPlay matters after so many months of ownership? Also is there anyway to get it flashed by BimmerTech or other modders to get CarPlay?

Thank you for your warm words.

Although I am a Android guy, my wife is fully on iOS and we had checked out the requirements for adding wired AA & CP. The short answer is yes, it can be done but needs extensive (and expensive) hardware changes and a bunch of coding which seemed too much at the time.

Please see this response from our in-house BMW guru 'Turbanator' here:
Link (Installed! Apple CarPlay in BMW 3GT (F34)) (Installed! Apple CarPlay in BMW 3GT (F34))

Wireless requires an even more modern head unit (post-June 2020 I think) and the special code to activate the wireless option.

CarPlay is usually good for listening to better quality music (lossless- I believe) as well helps to a certain extent on the navigation to many. I am more comfortable having a cup holder Phone mount and using the phone rather CarPlay even when it's available. Regarding HQ Audio, your system also has to support such inputs which probably is not the case with 330i as it has a basic system. If you still want to get upgraded, it's possible to get it retrofitted/ activated from BMW on the newer drives. Ask your SA to check with his stores/ workshop and confirm based on the VIN. If they can't do it, share the VIN and I will get it checked. Won't suggest going elsewhere on a new vehicle.

Here's the relevant thread-

re: My 2020 BMW 330i Sport (G20) Review. EDIT: 2 years & 27,000 km up

Just to add on to my post, please assess carefully if BMW India has a timeline to introduce iDrive 7 to even the Sport. If they are, then please wait and get such a vehicle.

That is my personal take after getting 'stuck' with iDrive 6 on my (June 2020) Sport.
My version is very very basic, and makes even my 2016 Octavia Style+ look modern!

Had some time to kill . There was a thin film of dust on the car and forgot my Jopasu duster at home.

re: My 2020 BMW 330i Sport (G20) Review. EDIT: 2 years & 27,000 km up

Hi All -

Just gave my 330i sport for service at BMW Deutsche Motoren Faridabad. Had a mixed experience. Following are some of my queries -

1) My remaining tread is 5.4mm front, 4.5mm rear after 11.3K Kms - asked the SA to rotate to which he said that wheel balancing is charged at 12000 + taxes and can't be done outside by independent tyre dealers as this is a rear wheel drive - this didn't make sense to me - please let me know your thoughts on this, would take this to a tyre expert for luxury cars and get it done there i feel.

2) He recommended a sunroof service - again optional at 3290 + taxes - said if you don't do it, you could have a sunroof leakage - again didn't budge and declined

3) Cleaning/washing - said this is again chargeable - declined again

4) Got brake pads checked - 8mm is remaining on the rear Tyres (comes with stock 10mm, lasts till about 3-4mm i believe) - Currently i have BSI till 40K Kms, should i be upgrading to BSI plus?

I am exactly in the same situation. I am fine with the colors both exterior and interior but little desperate about car play. Did you get any confirmation about its activation?

Have you been able to get any discount/offer from the dealers? Pls PM me if you got any offer and from which dealer. Thanks
