Brings back memories of our 2007 Alto on which I learnt how to drive. I too had installed a free flow exhaust on it and my oh my, the fun I had on that tiny roaring car. Sadly I can't find videos of it that I had shot on my Nokia expressmusic phone. My mom hated the car's sound as every morning's cold start made few glass windows at home resonate with it.

Not that my dad felt otherwise. Even though at the time his daily driver was a 2004 WagonR (Still is), he occasional took the Alto out and unfortunately on three separate occasions he was fined by the cops for the exhaust, following which I had strict instructions to go back to the stock exhaust.

Come 2014, I was leaving my hometown for graduation and there was no need of 2 beater cars in the house. So we got rid of the Alto for dad to get a better car for his weekend drives. Sold it for 1L at the end of 2014, car had done ~75k kms.

In contrast, 3 months ago a childhood friend of mine sold his 2006 Alto which had also run ~80k kms for as a sum of 1.1L, he did seek advise from me before putting a price to it and I explained to him how the current market demand of these small Marutis in Shillong are on an all time high. Including the likes of the 800, old Zen. Heck the old design K10s are going for 2-3L in the used market. My cousin exchanged his old K10 with a Brezza and True Value quoted 2.4L for his 52k run K10 without any negotiations!

A few pictures of the car I took on my first date.

Its a Red color zen with genuine 30k on the ODO and new tyres (with barely 2-3k mileage and tenure, of course).
I would like to know more about the car please pm me.

You can go ahead, but if the tyres were replaced 2 years before and car hasn't been used much for such a long period, you might want to check them for damage.

Re: Perfect city car for Rs 50,000 only | My Maruti 800 4-speed

Congratulations blackwasp. This really brings back memories for me. A M800 was our first car after my marriage, while I was still a PG student. We used that car for over 8 years before parting with it. It was so handy in the city, I still remember her when I am stuck in a tight space ad wish I were driving something smaller. We used to do long distance trips too in that car , without even an AC. But we were young back then and speeds were relatively lower at that time for all vehicles. Nowadays I would be too scared to travel in a M800 in a highway.

For city use, a used Maruti 800 for 50,000 is a great way to have a reliable car for cheap. Spares are cheap and you needn't go to a MASS 'coz there is hardly an FNG that doesn't know how to fix it. It is a far safer, practical, and utilitarian way to use 50K than going for a bike or a scooter if one doesn't specifically seek the narrow dimensions of the latter.

Re: Perfect city car for Rs 50,000 only | My Maruti 800 4-speed

I remember the first time I saw the 800 was in Bhatinda Cantt, Punjab where my late father was posted in '87 or '88. There was an Officer who had purchased a red 800 and it looked fabulous to all the onlookers.

This car model was akin to 'Humara Bajaj' in the car world for the aspiring Indian middle class. Very few people know that the credit of getting Suzuki to India lies with the Late Sanjay Gandhi.

So many families have had such memorable association with this car that the sight of a Maruti 800 today gets goosebumps on our skins.

I wish you very happy driving. I am sure you will wear this badge of honour with pride!

Re: Perfect city car for Rs 50,000 only | My Maruti 800 4-speed

Guys the car is on sale. I have found a 2001 5-speed. And sadly even though I want to keep both, I will have to let go of this red 800.

You can DM me for more details. Available for test drive in Navi Mumbai.
