It would have befitted the Safari brand lineage too.
I agree, and I'm quite surprised by the lack of a credible 4X4 in the segment below Fortune/ Endevour, even as an option, except for the Jeep.
Mahindra Thar has a long way to go in terms of highway manners to compete as anything more than a lifestyle/ pure off roader.
Tata's have an opportunity; will they take it?

Re: Driven : 2021 Tata Safari XZA+ 6 seater

The Harrier with same powertrain in same state of tune has already stolen all the thunder with respect to wow interiors in a Tata so the Safari has no reason to exist except for the third row. Lack of any tangible differentiator for the Safari against the Harrier is a sore point but understandable as this was never meant to be a Safari from day one so no efforts in that direction.

From day 1 it seems.

AWD variant is needed to solve the existential crisis facing the Safari.

Slow Tata will drag their feet while competition will swoop down on the market as always. The chrome garnish shiny grill onslaught on the all blue car reminds me of the Zest colour combination.

First mover advantage coupled with name tag and novelty will put up some numbers for the Safari.

I'm waiting for the AWD and the competition's rebuttal.

P.S : The small graphic on the rear windshield is indeed lions in line with the interesting Easter eggs Tata has started leaving in its cars. I think it's support for wildlife conservation. Jeep has some interesting Easter eggs too. The Tiago has 3 elephants embossed on the inner glovebox lid. The Nexon had 2 tigers on the rear windscreen, and the Harrier has a lion engraved on headlights and a lioness and her cubs. Since Safari is bigger Harrier that lion cub has grown into a full lion.

Up the chain, the Jaguar also has a jaguar and a cub. And so on.

Sorry, you were right. I stand corrected. Wishful thinking really.

This is a screen shot from YouTube of harrier xe.

Also great first impression Ram87pune as always. I always enjoy your Tata scoops and titbits..

Those are symbolic of the Make in India initiative, whose mascot is a Male Lion.

Re: Driven : 2021 Tata Safari XZA+ 6 seater

None of our speculation can predict the unpredictable indian car market (other that obvious duds like the Datsun Go etc).
With all the push for Desi brands and supporting Indian brands over foreign counterparts etc, this might turn out to be a good hit.

The Safari's biggest advantages are its stunning looks and the "Safari" brand name. Its got a good window before the 2021 XUV500 rolls out to establish itself as the main player in the segment.

While its true that the Innova makes sense in this price range to a lot of people, there are also a lot of people who buy the Innova becasue they don't really have a good alternative in the "premium" 7 seater vehicles in that 20-30 lakh range. The only good SUVs in that range are the Compass and Tucson which are 5 seaters. Also we must not forget that the Crysta looks kinda ugly (compared to the old one).

If Tata can get some Netas to adopt the the Safari instead of Innova especially with the convenient Panoramic Sunroof, it's going to be a bonfide hit..

In hindsight, they should have developed a single vehicle called Safari that could be either a 5 seater or 7 seater like the XUV500 and given it 2WD as well as AWD option and should have marketted its AWD aspect for publicity and the image while the large majority would happily lap up the 2WD version and benefit from the "Capable SUV" image instead of having both the Safari and the Harrier. Maybe the Tata market research guys know something I don't.

This would have pacified the die hards Fans as well as satisfied all kind of customers imaginable and would have been a home run.

Is the Safari launch / price reveal postponed? If I remember right, it was supposed to be launched today (26th January) ...

Re: Driven : 2021 Tata Safari XZA+ 6 seater

IMHO..the car looks fantastic! But as always with Tata, it is 1 step forward and 2 steps back! Would like to make the following observations:

1. It is not a proper 6 or 7 seater considering the space. Leaving it a confusing choice.
2. There was a scope to improvise the dash a bit, specially the docked tablet screen. Doesn't really look too good.
3. Ventilated Seats should have been offered
4. A limo version, like KIA Carnival, with lounge chairs would have been more appealing.
5. And finally, more controversial point. the name Safari. I don't it seems appropriate for this product. Somehow, it just sounds like last minute, forced decision. And to be Honest, only late 30s Plus or 40 above would really remember anything about Safari. Atleast, from my recollection of early years, doesn't really connect with me personally. Tata need to move from the past like it did with other products.
It has been really smashing it with excellent products and brilliant focus on Safety!

Re: Driven : 2021 Tata Safari XZA+ 6 seater

Waiting to see this beauty on our roads. I hope Tata motors refrains from giving out 0-100kph timings which will otherwise lead to hue and cry and unreasonable comparisons with other vehicles among the "enthusiasts".
Looking forward to experience a magic like the Hexa where the vehicle used to pick speed effortlessly and also masked it quite well at the same time.

Big thank you ram87pune. What an amazing guerilla review! I too hope that the Safari is niggle free and delights the Safari clan.

Thanks for the scoop. Answers a lot of questions.

But have to point out this first negative point about safety is uncalled for. Specially considering nobody mentions that about any other car unless specially proven by GNCAP. It can maybe a part of ‘other points’.

The blue shade looks awesome. Would have solid road presence. Any news on dark edition like the Harrier? That would look menacing as well

XE doesn’t get ride mode selectors. IRA starts from XT variant. Whole Variant spread:

4th February onwards will be in showrooms.

XT does not even get 8.8 inch infotainment system, only reserved for XZ. It seems they are trying to protect Harrier.

No price reveal, just car being showcased!
