That's really great! Hopefully, we shall meet someday again on-the-road! The travelogue on our first hill drive with the Nexon is now with Mods. Hopefully, it will be out in a day or two. You are most welcome to read it!

re: A Vagabond’s chronicle | Ownership review of our 2021 Tata Nexon XM Petrol | EDIT: 22,000 km up

In the first week of October 2021, we successfully completed the maiden Himalayan road trip with our new Nexon.

The driving experiences of this 1342 km long road trip with our new Nexon are shared in this travelogue at Team BHP: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/trave...le-forest.html (Mim village, Sukhia Pokhri : Nexon's maiden hill drive in search of a little forest) .

It was a major satisfaction for me to see the solution worked so beautifully. It required only an inexpensive mud-flap extension, without compromising its effective ground-clearance.
Thank you so much. I was looking for a solution for this as it was so frustrating to see the car with full of dirt / mud even on a very mild wet road. I followed your DIY instructions and it worked like a charm. I drove around 550 kms and it was raining on & off. Was so pleasantly surprised to see the DIY result. Absolutely no mud at all and just the regular dirt after having driven on the highway. Thank you so much!!

I am glad it was useful for you as well. In this week we reached a milestone of 5K. Those mud-flap extensions continue to work like a charm.

On other notes, the odometer reading in our Nexon now stands at 5350 km. The gear-shifts have now become much smoother. Few days ago, I got a pleasant reminder call from the workshop manager for the upcoming 3rd service (first full-service) for our Nexon and I have now booked a morning slot on the second Saturday of January.

I achieved my personal best MID mileage figure in our XM(P) during a drive to attend a family wedding in this week. For a part of the drive of around 380 km, MID mileage figure was at 19.2 kmpl. Another part involved a return-drive to Kolkata city, clocking around 127 km. The overall tankful-to-tankful method returned a mileage figure of 16.76 kmpl. I guess, what really helped is the winter temperature. For a considerable amount of drive, I had to use heating rather than AC for cooling the cabin. Otherwise, the speed was pretty decent and the road was combination of 4-laned, 2-laned as well as single laned. The surface was both good and bad.

Sorry, I somehow missed your post.

Yes, thank you so much. the mud flap extension worked so well without any issues at all until I went for the third service just couple of days back. I just noticed this afternoon that the mud flap extensions were missing. Probably due to the high pressure water wash . So, it's time for me to go for the DIY again and I got the tube for 20 rs today.

Just like you, I was surprised to see MID mileage of 23.6 for a distance of 110Kms and at the end of trip of 382 Kms, it was 21.7 on MID. I was maintaining speed around 90-100. I'm so happy with the vehicle (AMT Petrol) performance

re: A Vagabond’s chronicle | Ownership review of our 2021 Tata Nexon XM Petrol | EDIT: 22,000 km up

I am updating this ownership review thread after a long gap. In the meantime, our Nexon has crossed the 10K km milestone. The odometer reading now stands at 13018 km.

Service: In January this year, our Nexon went through its first full service including change of engine oil. The total bill came out to be just Rs. 2814. Afterwards, it went through its next 6 monthly checkup in July. The total bill this time was Rs. 500 only . After a few weeks, I got a call from our service center regarding hatch-door-latch link-rod check/replace campaign by Tata Motors. It turned out that our Nexon already had the newer part. So it didn't require any part replacement.

Drive: In the last ten months, our Nexon has traveled to 7 states: Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to put up the travelogues yet. Nevertheless, it has been a delightful experience to drive the Nexon. Last week, we completed a 2672 km drive to Arunachal Pradesh. The drive had around 450 km of hill drive. I drove it fully in Sport mode. Except, for the hill drive part where AC was not needed, the AC was used throughout the drive. Our Nexon returned MID mileage of 20.3 kmpl for the Arunachal trip whereas tank-to-tank mileage was around 18.4 kmpl.

Here are few pics of our Nexon from these trips.

While both of these features have their own positives but together they create a major headache for the owner, to maintain it clean! Let the picture speak for itself.

This was really bothering me a lot, given I try to keep our car maintained impeccably. Subsequently, I made a few attempts to address this issue but without much success. After a few trial-n-error approach, I finally managed to nail it down. I procured a part of a old tube of a vehicle tyre from a neighborhood garage by paying him Rs. 20! Then I paid Rs. 10 for a pair of Fevikwik superglue sachets.

Two rectangular pieces of dimension 5'' X 6'' were cut out from the tube. The superglue was then applied to a part measuring 2'' X 5'' on these pieces as well as on the existing mud-flaps of Nexon. You saved me atleast 500 hours over my future ownership of the car.
I did this on my vehicle and after a 350km trip from Bhubaneswar-Konark-Puri-Satapada-Puri-Bhubaneswar, I may just have to rub off my car for 5-10mins to get it clean instead of a 1.5 hour gruelling cleaning job.

Amazing hack and I can't thank you enough with this.

re: A Vagabond’s chronicle | Ownership review of our 2021 Tata Nexon XM Petrol | EDIT: 22,000 km up

It seems I haven't updated this thread for a while although some updates are certainly long due! So let me start updating it a bit.

January 2023 (2nd year full service):

Our Nexon was about to complete its 2 year of being with us since it's delivery. So I took our Nexon for its annual full service in the first week of Jan 2023. Since its first free service, I have been taking our Nexon to Rudra Tata Motors Naihati, as this workshop is closer to our home. So far I am happy with the service experience received from this workshop.

In fact, earlier it used to be a smaller workshop but it has now moved to a bigger warehouse with a much better customer lounge. Importantly, I have now developed a very good rapport with my service advisor there.

During this full service, apart from engine oil, oil filter and air/pollen filters, the spark plugs were also changed. Total bill came out to be Rs. 6028. Our Nexon has been running like a champ in last two years. The odometer reading at the time of the service was 13568 km.

Solo Drive to Ranchi (March 2023):
Apart from the usual runs, I went for a solo road trip to Ranchi in March this year in our Nexon. This was the first solo drive experience for me. On the way to Ranchi, I encountered a major Nor'wester thunderstorm. Thankfully, I reached the destination without any harm.

After this 965 km round trip drive, our Nexon crossed the milestone of 15000 km in the odometer. Like our earlier highway drives, our Nexon XM petrol returned a tankful-to-tankful mileage of approx ~18.5 kmpl in the sport mode. Here are a few photos from my Ranchi drive.

MID was a bit over-optimistic about the mileage

re: A Vagabond’s chronicle | Ownership review of our 2021 Tata Nexon XM Petrol | EDIT: 22,000 km up

July 2023 (6 monthly inspection service at 2.5 years):

After getting a few reminder calls from Rudra Tata Motors workshop regarding 6 monthly inspection service, finally I took our Nexon to the workshop in the first week of July.

Our Nexon had been doing it's job without any issue. So during the road test when I was asked by the service advisor whether I am facing any specific issue. I said there is none from my side. However, little later I asked him whether I should get the wheel alignment/balancing done. Our Nexon hasn't gone through any more wheel alignment/balancing check after the first free service. Although, all five tyres have been regularly rotated.

After the road test, his assessment was that the wheel alignment/balancing is not needed. Nevertheless, he got all tyres inspected for any uneven wears after the car was raised on the service lift. Again, his assessment was that the tyres were in a good shape.

During this conversion, he casually remarked in Bengali that would mean something like, "For Tata cars, it's better not to try fix something, if ain't broken."

The fluid levels were checked, battery water level was topped up a bit. The car was handed over to me after the wash. During this inspection service, total bill came out to be just Rs. 885. The odometer reading at the time of this inspection service was 16685 km.

re: A Vagabond’s chronicle | Ownership review of our 2021 Tata Nexon XM Petrol | EDIT: 22,000 km up

Drives during August - October, 2023:

In last 3 months, our Nexon has added more than 5000 km in the odometer. In this period, we had 3 major road trips in our Nexon, apart from our regular home-town trip to Malda. I guess, this is highest mileage that I have ever clocked during any 3 months period.

Among them, the first one was a long weekend trip to Amlasole, a tribal village in the Jhargram district of West Bengal. The second one was a long weekend trip to Sundargarh district of Odisha to visit the Khandadhar Waterfalls. The third one was a week-long road trip during Pujo vacation, covering Bodhgaya, Lucknow, Agra and Sarnath. The odometer reading in our Nexon now stands at 22328 km.

Among these trips, the weekend trip to Amlasole was certainly a special one for me. It was a trip along the path less travelled. At Amlasole, we spent the independent day weekend with a tribal family in their homestay. Here are a few photos:

At Belpahari, on the way to Amlasole

At one point of time, the word AMLASOLE was known for all the wrong reasons. It’s so heart warming to see the pictures of the place in this thread and for all the good reason. Your travels to the less explored places is what inspires people like us. And I hope there is a puja travelogue coming up, for it would be an injustice to us readers if that journey is not chronicled here. Wish many more fuss free miles to you with your Nexon. Some matches are made in heaven, your’s is one such.

It's always a pleasure to take the path less travelled through your TLs. Absolutely love reading them and it was lovely to read this one too - Amlasole is a place that I was not aware of earlier and it looks like I will have to plan a trip one of these days. Looking forward to reading your TL on the Puja tour. Hope we will get to read it soon!

Thanks a lot Abhi. Indeed, Amlasole was an experience of a different kind. I hope, I can pen down at least one travelogue in near future.
