re: Genius v/s Insanity - Part 2 | My 2022 Jeep Compass 2.0 Limited(O) MT | Galaxy Blue

Your Jeep looks stunning after the PPF .
I am also planning to get PPF done on my brand new Jeep Compass Model S (Magnesio Grey color). I plan to go to Gloss Factor in Electronic City, Bangalore. Has anyone been there before? Can someone share their experience please?
Thanks.

Crossed the 5000kms milestone while starting off on a solo drive from Trivandrum to Bangalore -

Some pictures clicked during a break at Madurai. Intermittent light drizzle = a very dirty car.

Thank you. Congratulations on your Model S.

No experience with Gloss Factor - have only seen the ads.

Very nice click! Its a beautiful scenic stretch. Last time when I took this route, I had to go on the wrong side at two places, is it still the same?

No major updates since the last one, just three drives:
1. Anchetty Loop with biker BHPians KarthikK and ebmrajesh
2. Bangalore - Trivandrum
3. Trivandrum - Alappuzha - Trivandrum

Dirty after the last drive from Trivandrum to Bangalore. Clicked while waiting to get the car washed:

Shine restored:

Clicked the same evening while heading over to meet BHPian rbp:

Anchetty Loop Circuit Drive:

As Bangalore BHPians would know, Anchetty loop is a common route for the biking community and I have covered this road earlier with both the Versys 650 and the Punto as well. So this time when BHPians KarthikK and ebmrajesh decided to do a weekend breakfast ride, I joined in with the Compass.

This route is known for smooth roads and corners - but some of the sections are a bit narrow and broken - best enjoyed on motorcycles. Nevertheless, the Compass didn't disappoint and was able to keep up pace with the motorcycles. The handling was a pleasant surprise throughout - with the Compass maintenance composure even with fast cornering after the initial feeling of body roll. This is no sedan that flat tracks through a corner, it is no Punto either, but still very much an enjoyable machine through the corners.

Roads like these:

Quick stop for the bikers to wipe the bugs off their visors. Lol!

ebmrajesh wondering if he should have just driven down comfortably:

Drove down to Trivandrum last week, and had to put the bootspace and 60/40 split to good use - transporting a digital Piano for mom. Her choice of Piano was a Japanese brand called Kawai and the showroom was only available in Bangalore for the southern region.

Its been more than a year since we visited our hometown of Alleppey and managed to do a roundtrip this time. Alleppey is a beautiful destination, and our choice of homestay this time made for some very scenic views:

Once again the car was extremely dirty and also the PPF had developed some minor issues - so it was time to visit The Detailing Mafia once again.

Minor issues with the PPF:

They did a full maintenance wash, cut the PPF appropriately and also applied quick detailer on the car. The shine is back to Day 1 of detailing:

Only one deviation now, and none while coming back to Nagercoil. I just hope they complete the full road towards Trivandrum soon - Kerala side is almost complete.

re: Genius v/s Insanity - Part 2 | My 2022 Jeep Compass 2.0 Limited(O) MT | Galaxy Blue

Having now done over 9000kms, I feel the 2.0 Multijet has really opened up nicely. Especially since the last drive to Kochi and back.

Earlier I used to feel the engine a bit strained in the midrange, and I assumed this would be a characteristic of the BS6 motors. Now I feel the midrange turbo pull is more than I anticipate in some situations. The car just takes off (obviously not in the literal sense!) in third if the turbo spools properly. The performance doesn't feel all that less compared to the BS4 cars now.

A couple of clicks from the recent drive back to Bangalore -

Do you apply any detailer over the PPF to get the shine back ?

First of all thank you for the amazing thread that you have and all that has helped me immensely. I have picked up a White Limited 2.0 MT last week. I was planning for night eagle, but could not resist the additions in Limited.

I have till now just driven for about 100 kms in 3/4 days and need a few more kms to really adjust to this monster of a vehicle. Need a few suggestions/guidance from you:

1. Is there any run in period that I should follow for the engine to settle in?
2. How much did it cost for the PPF? I checked with the detailing mafia counter here in Kolkata and they quoted about 1.75L.
I'm not sure if I should even go for one as I have a white car and I'm skeptical of the PPF turning yellow
3. Do you think Ceramic is a good way to maintain the shine and paint, or should I use regular wax detailing say once a year during the service and do periodic wax applications by myself
4. I received the mopar car care kit while taking the delivery, and 'am a little confused with the direction written on the upholstery cleaning spray. Do you know if that can be sprayed directly or does it need to be diluted before spraying?

Yes. Their own version of Quick Detailer was applied during the last wash.

1. The official recommendations are as below. Personally I just drive normally as I have an intermediate driving style and neither lug the engine for FE nor revv it to glory for performance.

Genius v/s Insanity - Part 2 | My 2022 Jeep Compass 2.0 Limited(O) MT | Galaxy Blue-capture.jpg

2. That should the cost for TPU, whereas I opted for TPH+ceramic. White runs a high risk of yellow discoloration from the PPF, and hence TPH isn't recommended. Personally, I used to maintain a white Punto myself and would not have opted for PPF, if not for this dark colour of mine.

3. Lot of products call themselves ceramic these days. Some are very good, some are just fancy wax. But yes - have seen good results with some applications w.r.t shine and water beading.

4. Haven't used it. Will check if I can get more details. Or may be more experienced owners like arun.josie can help here.

Where did you get this one from? I looked in to the user manual and warranty PDF from Jeep Life app, but could not find this one.

This really helps to make my mind to not do PPF on white. I would go for a ceramic quote, but may be a little later after the 6 months service check. Till then it would be me doing some wax polishing.

One more related query, how do you maintain the black claddings in the bottom and the tire colours? They look clean as new. Are there any recommendations on how to keep them new.

As shared by arun.josie sometime back from this online copy of the manual -

Haven't had to do it on the Compass yet, but my trusted product for plastics is Meguairs Natural Shine. Kept the infamous plastics of the Punto in showroom condition for a full decade.

Congratulations for the 10K milestone and wishes for many more miles. That is some driving in 6 months.

And thanks for taking some time to respond to my queries.

I'm 7KM short of the 500KM break-in. Had a short 120KM outstation drive mostly on state highways. Got a mileage of 16.4 KM/L, mostly kept it to 65-70 KM/H with a few times touching the 80 mark.

Congratulations on the milestone Crazy Driver! You have been getting better mileage than me. I guess you're a more sedate (and sensible ) driver than I am. I got a mileage of around 13.5 kmpl on my recent Bangalore-Mumbai round trip. I guess the open highways did not help my cause.

Have you been using any specific fuel or diesel additives for your BS6 Compass? Do you have any any thoughts on high cetane options like Xtragreen by IOCL? I have been sticking to normal diesel so far.

Got the first low-DEF warning today, 5400kms after being topped up during first service.

Less actually. The Punto had an average of 56km/day after 10 years of ownership.

The speed beeps help my cause. I prefer a cruise speed of around 115km/h max on plain open expressways. Sad the MT doesn't get cruise control, else i would have set it at 199!

Same here. Sticking to normal diesel. It is quite promising that Xtragreen offers better cetane numbers and theoretically should burn better - but the feedback seemed to be mixed. Will play it safer and let others try it out this time.

Been there, done that - and no use. It even beeps at 119 for me

I have found that 117 is the max you can set without triggering the beep. 118, it works sometimes, but at times, it beeps.

I'm eagerly waiting for an outstation highway drive. Getting a booking now is proving to be a challenge.

The cruise controls are a big miss which I do not understand why they could not include. My earlier car a 2013 City MT had cruise controls. And it was a boon on the highways.
