re: Genius v/s Insanity - Part 2 | My 2022 Jeep Compass 2.0 Limited(O) MT | Galaxy Blue

Got the Adblue topped up with 7 litres, and kept 2 litres for reserve. BS6 diesel pain, that has costed Rs 1,148/-

Different companies, different logic.

119 works with most cars I guess. For example - During my Taigun review drive, we had done this for quite some distance on the empty expressway:

With Jeep, it looks like ringing may start at 121. I have seen it touching 120 on a couple of occasions without beeping as I lifted my foot off the accelerator as soon as it touched 120.

As shared by arun.josie sometime back from this online copy of the manual -

Haven't had to do it on the Compass yet, but my trusted product for plastics is Meguairs Natural Shine. Kept the infamous plastics of the Punto in showroom condition for a full decade.
Hello,

Congratulations and wish you safe and happy travels for the future.

May I kindly request name of the application you're using to track your expenses for the car please? Thank you.

Service Experience #2 - Second Service @ 14,372 kms.
Deedi FCA, Trivandrum.

Completed 2nd free Service (15k kms, 1 year) without any major issues. There was an issue of the sunroof button not responding last weekend, but it just started working again when I wanted to show the same to the SA. Typical!

Oil changed, filters replaced, adblue topped up and wheels balanced and aligned.

re: Genius v/s Insanity - Part 2 | My 2022 Jeep Compass 2.0 Limited(O) MT | Galaxy Blue

Congratulations on completing a year and wishing you many more happy and safe miles ahead.

Have you noticed any hardening of the clutch - as you had mentioned might happen as with many diesel MTs?

And have you faced any DPF clogging issues at all?

Recently took a TD and was amazed at how ‘non-diesel’ the car was. The clutch was soft, the slotting and bite perfect and, as you also said, the gear lever absolutely lovely to hold.

I usually stay away from diesels but with the lack of MT in petrol and how good the diesel vehicle was, my only concern is the clutch hardening over time and DPF warnings. My drive is usually b2b traffic and 80-20 city-highway.

No noticeable change till now, although I have been driving quite a bit in Bangalore traffic recently and those occasions remind me that i should have picked an automatic.

However, a drive on the open roads erases all such thoughts.

No issues till now. I have filled Adblue worth Rs 2353/- till date though!

Hope you considered the Toyota Hyryder / Hycross? My usage has probably been the opposite (I did Trivandrum-Bangalore round trips four times in eight months). But if my requirements were like yours, and with these hybrid options in the market - i would have taken a hard look at those two.

Congratulations for the 15K mark within 9 months. That is some mile crunching.

I did my first 2000+ KM trip (Kolkata - Bhubaneswar - Vizag - Araku) on the Jeep and it was pure joy. Driving the same model as yours, got 16.3 km/ltr average (measured door-to-door).

I have a small question. Have you done an underbody coating or do you suggest one to be done? I'm nearing my 5K service check, and was thinking of getting one done.

I had it done because it was included in the package when I got PPF on the car. Not sure the Compass really needs it though. May not have done it separately.

20,000 kms update

The Compass has crossed 20k kms and there has been nothing much to update - just regular tankfuls of diesel and adblue. The car continues to be fun and makes light work of office commutes and highway drives.

Just leaving the thread with a few recent clicks. Getting Galaxy Blue with the white+tan interior of the Limited was an excellent decision and the car continues to receive praises from friends and family. Compass in itself has a novelty factor (thanks to poor sales) and this colour is even rarer. So far so good.

Meanwhile, another vehicle has entered the garage. Will update the relevant thread soon.

Caught in a storm:

There was a recent storm outbreak in Bangalore that created headlines - sudden downpour with hailstorm and strong winds. Resulted in the death of a girl who drowned in a Xylo caught in the underpass.

Unfortunately i was caught in the same area and got caught in the same storm - except on much higher ground. Presence of huge trees in the area meant that I couldn't take refuge from the hailstorm anywhere and the car took the full beating while sheltering us completely. Unfortunately a small branch fell right on the bonnet too - needing me to reverse out of the situation. Could be the leaves or the build of the car - but it left only a long scratch on the PPF and a minor ding on the bonnet.

Thankful the sunroof didnt crack! The sound of the hailstorm was so horrible and loud inside the car - wife has been having hearing problems for the last one month since the storm.

When the weather suddenly changed. This was only at 3:23PM and it just turned night in a few mins.

Scratch from the tree branch and the aftermath once i reached the parking safely.

All the leaves the car managed to collect during the hour. Cleaning all of this out took a good 30 minutes.

Detailing Mafia Trivandrum tried to correct it, but was only partially successful. Anyways, the damage is only on the PPF.

The hailstorm also left minor dings on the body, barely visible - but I'll know it is there.

Hmm, hailstorm damage is one of the most dreaded one, where if we are caught unlucky, there's no escape from being hurt

Last year in May, just barely managed to avoid a similar blitzkrieg while on the way to Bangalore. Got into a petrol pump before the intensity increased. Once it started, the sound was indeed deafening!

25,000 kms update

The 25k milestone came up early this month - while I was returning home after a short dinner meet with BHPians KarthikK and neil.jericho.

Number of days: 593 days (1 year, 7 months and 14 days) since purchase.
Average Usage: 42.2 kms /day.

Genius v/s Insanity - Part 2 | My 2022 Jeep Compass 2.0 Limited(O) MT | Galaxy Blue-20231105_224905.jpg

The pace of driving has clearly reduced recently, especially after the arrival of the Triumph - my old Punto had completed 25k kms in just 10 months. No hopes of giving arun.josie a run for his money this time

DEF / Adblue

This is one of the major queries an owner gets nowadays for a BS6 diesel car. Glad to report that I haven't had any issues and the only attention required so far has been the regular refilling once every 5k - 6k kms or so.

Till recently Velvex Adblue (used by FCA themselves) was available on Amazon and I had a 5L home delivered and kept in reserve. But just before this year's Great Indian Sale, the delivery options have been greatly reduced for this product - atleast doesn't deliver to my place anymore. Will need to stock up from FCA the next time I visit for service.

Some people hate Adblue refilling because it can spill, causing damages to the paint and stain marks over shoes and cloth items. After a couple of such refills, I have adopted this method of keeping a tissue sandwiched in the cap, which avoids the spill completely.

Nowadays I fill 5 litres once the indicator drops below 50% -

The new reading. Should last till the annual service coming up in March

Dashcam DIY

Got a small gift for the car to celebrate this milestone- a dashcam which was a long overdue purchase and a necessity these days. I saw good discounts on the 70mai A810 True 4K dashcam during the Amazon Great Indian Sale and took the plunge.

Cost? Rs 18,734/- including NEXDIGITRON polarizer filter (worth 999/-) thanks to Great Indian festival plus HDFC credit card instant discount. Had to spend another 1.3k on the Samsung Evo Plus 256GB microSDXC memory card.

This one comes with HDR Dual Vision - 4K 3840x2160 native resolution for the front and HD for the rear. Read on the dashcam thread about Starvis 2 IMX and this comes with Starvis 2 for the front - another reason to try out.

Cons - Is battery and not capacitor powered, so hoping Bangalore temperatures won't cause issues.

Wiring was done DIY, with some clips bought off Amazon for cable management. I need to rewire the rear though- reason as seen in pics below.

Unboxing the 70mai A810:

Tested both cams before installation and wiring. Front:

And rear:

Genius v/s Insanity - Part 2 | My 2022 Jeep Compass 2.0 Limited(O) MT | Galaxy Blue-20231108_121123.jpg

Attached the front cam below the mirror mount:

75% of the camera is not seen from my driving position. Kept a hint of it seen so I can make out if it's running. Screen goes off in 30 seconds - so it's not an active distraction:

Clips attached to the mirror housing to tidy up the wiring:

Wires routes through the clips:

Genius v/s Insanity - Part 2 | My 2022 Jeep Compass 2.0 Limited(O) MT | Galaxy Blue-20231124_084141.jpg

Through the headliner on to the A-Pillar:

Genius v/s Insanity - Part 2 | My 2022 Jeep Compass 2.0 Limited(O) MT | Galaxy Blue-20231124_084707.jpg

Goes inside the A-pillar into the door beadings. A pillar sits flush after the wire is pried inside:

Genius v/s Insanity - Part 2 | My 2022 Jeep Compass 2.0 Limited(O) MT | Galaxy Blue-20231124_085515.jpg

The length of the provided cable was not enough to route it to the USB in the rear console, so I could route it only to the front:

Genius v/s Insanity - Part 2 | My 2022 Jeep Compass 2.0 Limited(O) MT | Galaxy Blue-20231124_085636.jpg

Genius v/s Insanity - Part 2 | My 2022 Jeep Compass 2.0 Limited(O) MT | Galaxy Blue-20231124_091441.jpg

More clips to the rescue, to avoid the wire hanging down towards the pedal controls:

Rear cam wiring

Wiring the rear camera was much harder and I was particularly feeling good about how it turned out, but for one grave miss.

The camera stuck above the rear glass and wire routed with the OE cables:

Genius v/s Insanity - Part 2 | My 2022 Jeep Compass 2.0 Limited(O) MT | Galaxy Blue-20231108_133313.jpg

This was particular irritating to pull off, passing the solid clip through this bent rubber sleeve with not much space to spare was tough:

Out through the roof liner, before routing it along the edge and into the C pillar:

Through the C pillar:

Rear cam wiring Reroute?

So the obvious elephant in the room - the crossing at the B pillar. Now, I passed it by sliding it in through the plastic trim in the B pillar assuming the airbag deploys from the roof liner just above it and not through the pillar. But then - friends have asked if there could be a possibility of the airbag getting caught in the wire when deploying and I guess that's a possibility not worth the risk.

Safer to just re-route it I guess, but trying to figure out how. Can pass it through the base - but then it will be difficult to remove all those trims to conceal the wiring. I have some additional length for this cable, so wire length shouldn't be a problem, as it was with the front.

Suggestions welcome

I also recently got a 70Mai cam installed in my Meridian - about a month or so ago - I can’t recall the model number off hand but it was a front / rear setup. Very similar installation as you described except I got the longer cable so it goes into the rear cigarette lighter port.

For some reason it’s just not syncing to my phone but I also haven’t had the time to spend time trying it after the initial installation. In any case I plan to move it to my 3 GT pretty soon so will try to figure it out then.

Nice. Routed the wiring above the B pillar (like i did above) or below?

I had a problem connecting to the wifi Hotspot as well and the culprit turned out to be android-auto. As soon as the dashcam tries to connect, android auto reconnects again thereby snapping the dashcam connection.

I had to remove auto-reconnect for the android auto wifi, and then connect to the dashcam.

Above IIRC.

So I’m on IOS but someone suggested something similar. Disconnect the phone pairing from the Jeep. Pair phone to camera. Then re-pair the phone to the Jeep. I just haven’t had the patience to get around to it yet and now it’s anyway academic since I’m going to remove it soon and install it on the GT.

I assume I’ll face this issue on the GT as well. Will have to unpair and repair? Can’t be a Jeep specific issue then.

I've recently did DIY installation of RedTiger dashcam replacing the existing old dashcam in my Compass Trailhawk.

I was skeptical about the same airbags situation, but the wiring for the earlier dashcam was installed through the roof almost beside the sunroof. I thought that's the best way to avoid the airbags and attached the end of the new wire to the end of the existing wire and just pulled it through.

I suggest you exploring the same. You can use some other wire which does not easily bend and then route the cables through the roof.
