Hello folks,
I might spend 20K to get 15" Alloys with tyres after a few years. |
Sir, get this done ASAP. This will transform your car looks.
Off-topic, but I really think you should hide the plates of a car meant for your daughter (or any relative for that matter) on a public forum like this. Not the wisest thing to do, flaunting it about.

I think you should skip the alloys. Such style items never hold their value. Moreover, with that 1.2L normal petrol engine, you're better off with 14-inchers. |
The higher variants of the Polo with the same engine came with 15 inch alloys, the 1.0 MPI which has got worse torque rating came with 16 inch alloys in the highline plus variant, so I don't think it will adversely affect performance. As for the looks, the car will definitely look a million bucks!
Thanks for sharing! Enjoyed reading the entire process and your joy of getting the car up to speed was evident through the writing!
What is the kind of average you are getting on this, considering the age and kms? Would be an insightful input for people considering second hand.
Your post lists everything I love about Polo. It is just an amazing car in it’s category. It also gave me ideas to do some upgrades to my polo, specifically alloy wheels and a touchscreen with rear camera. But I prefer the stock touchscreen that comes in higher models.
Coincidentally the first manual car that I learnt to drive on was also a Polo 1.2 MPI, in a Flash Red iteration. Easy to drive car with enough power for young drivers, linearity of the engine will make you feel confident enough even for long drives. This car is the reason why I am confident with driving stick today!
Polos are also extremely mod friendly, you can easily upgrade many components of the car should you wish to do so. The current accessories on the car that you have installed look quite tasteful!

How were you able to obtain NOC when your car was in the last year of it's running. This is the first case I'm hearing about a Delhi RTO issuing NOC for a vehicle with less than an year of it's validity left. Did you get it done through an agent?
Congratulations and it is an amazing car at the price which you procured it! I am sure it will be a flawless ownership experience for years to come. I am also keen on getting one as a beater car for city usage.
Thanks everyone for the appreciation of this story.

Wow, that was one wholesome post I read this morning. - Get a used German engineered car at a bargain
- Fix all wearables, tearables and scratchables at a mix of FNGs and ASSs
- Spruce up the interior and make it liveable
- Get it all done under half the car’s bargain price
- Gift it to daughter
- Teach her driving
- Make wife too happy
- Write a post on team-bhp and make others too happy
Thanks for sharing. Wish you and your family a lot of safe and fun kms! |
Thanks! That was the perfect Summary of my post. I could not have summarized it better.

You can get a NOC from Transport Department in Delhi legally and officially even a week before you complete 15 years. You just need to apply in the seller's Transport Authority on Form 28 (with the Pencil Impression of the embossed Chassis Number), PUC, Insurance, Address Proof of both the buyer and Seller. The Seller's address should be in one of the permissible districts of the country. If all documents are complete, the NOC is granted in a week and you get a SMS with a link to download it. You can collect a physical copy too.

Frankly I have not measured the Fuel Average till now. All I can say is that is is in the range of 12-15 when we are doing a lot of idling, and my daughter is learning. That is not regular driving I guess.

I have thought about this a few times but I really don't understand what harm this can do. The registration number of vehicles are displayed publicly for all to see and everybody can see your registration number around your house, while you drive and where ever you park. I don't think it is confidential information like a Credit Card Number or even the Aadhaar Number. Do enlighten me what harm it can do.

Sir the Car was Serviced at Volkswagen Authorized Service Center with special instructions to find the cause of the three beeps. They spent a lot of time but could not figure out. I am sure all the fluids you mention were checked there. I have personally checked Windshield washer fluid (The bottle does not seem to have a sensor), coolant, engine oil, brake oil and all are at perfect level. The service center did a complete computer scan too and there are no errors or faults. Finally they told me that the Instrument Cluster was upgraded to a newer version (Original in Polo 2012 is Red display, mine has white) and that could be causing it. We have just got used to it. If I get a used Instrument Cluster sometime in future I might try and see if that fixes the three beep problem.
Thanks all
Styler

Would you want to paint a bright green neon bullseye onto yourself and advertise the fact that you’re an easy target?
Random people can see your plates IRL all the time, all cool. But they don’t usually link a face or name with it unless they know you personally. By storing such (borderline) sensitive information on a searchable public database like Team BHP, you’re just making it easy for potential creeps to profile you and possibly stalk you (or in this case, your family members) as well. In an era of increasingly fading personal information security, this is just one more thing that you would wish you’d have done to deter the wrong sort of people. Mainly because exposing your plate number would make it convenient for crooks to replicate and use it for nefarious purposes, with a vehicle of a similar make and model.
But at the end of the day, you do you. Your peace of mind, your privacy, your kids. Better be safe than sorry is all this stranger on the Internet can tell you for your own good. Good luck! :thumbs up
You did save money but I wouldn't necessarily say that a 2012 Polo without airbags or active safety features is somehow more safe than a contemporary Baleno, which has both. I personally would not buy a car without airbags in 2022.
Congrats on the Polo. Is a lovely stable car which inspires a lot of confidence. Especially for beginners. Plus, pre-owned makes it easier on the pocket.
With the refresh done, it looks as good as new.
Unlike a lot of Germans, the Polo has had local manufacturing and has been around for quite some time. Parts, after market stuff is still easy to source. So hassle free ownership is what you should get.
All the best!
I own a polo as well. A 2013 highline. A brilliant little car with a lot of character. I havent modified anything of it yet (1 month of ownership), but only had the clutch repaired.
Enjoy that car, its a fun little one
Ok Guys
My daughter has finished Collage and is to join her first job in Bangalore in the first week of August.
Everybody suggested with Bangalore traffic, an Automatic would be better.
With a heavy heart we have sold this Polo and now I am looking for a small automatic for my daughter. She is already in Delhi so we are looking to buy in Delhi and then ship it to Bangalore when she shifts.
We are looking at the following options
1. Polo GT (Now that we have tasted German blood)
2. Baleno CVT
3. Honda Jazz CVT
Any advice would be welcome.

Hi Styler,
Polo GT would be the most ideal replacement , you can try Baleno & Jazz but in the end you're most likely to end up going with Polo GT itself :D
